Lou Dallas Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

Lou Dallas NYFW FW19

Represented by Gia Kuan.

On Tuesday, September 11th, LOU DALLAS presented its Spring/Summer 2019 Collection, Water Bow, in a runway collection at St. Mark’s Church-In-The-Bowery in New York City.

For this collection Lou Dallas wades into the South Street Seaport avoiding the nets that are swimming all around her. A storm is gathering and washing a strange tide ashore. Bows and sequins bob in the surf. In the ribbons of foam and the fury, Lou loses sight of shore.

The depths are dark but there is something like hope glimmering in the distance. Lou holds her breath and dives deeper. For the SS19 Runway Show, designer Raffaella Hanley collaborated with James K who premiered her piece Venomist Choir, a piece exploring how voice, and more specifically the mouth, operates as a subversive architecture, vessel, and stage. The artist recorded people chewing gum to make a lot of the sounds for the music piece, and subsequently translated to the show as models chewed gum as they walked down the runway. The designer also partnered with Francisco Gonzalez for a shoe collaboration for the collection.

ABOUT LOU DALLAS

In 2013, Lou Dallas woke up on a Rhode Island beach covered in glowing moonstones. After stuffing her bags, she followed the moon’s path to New York. Since then, she has continued her lawless pursuit of treasure and delight through space, time, and the realms of the fantastic, ripping through dimensions and dragging the trains of her many mantles behind her. www.loudallas.com | @LOU_DALLAS

ABOUT JAMES K

James K is a New York native multi-disciplinary artist who has honed her peculiar aesthetic to include a fusion of visual and sonic elements. She received her BFA in Printmaking from The Rhode Island School of Design, where she developed a critical multidisciplinary art practice shaped by feminist theory and writing. Since 2012, she has been represented by Loyal Gallery, where she has exhibited solo work in both their Malmo and Stockholm locations. James K continues her 2018 ISSUE residency with the premiere of Venomist Choir, a piece exploring how voice, and more specifically the mouth, operates as a subversive architecture, vessel, and stage. An electroacoustic composition and multimedia choreography embedded within the context of an official New York Fashion Week show by art and fashion imprint Lou Dallas, the work simultaneously unmasks voice and the nexus existing between fashion, performance, and composition.

Calvin Luo Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

Calvin Luo NYFW FW19

Represented by Rep Agency.

Calvin Luo likes to put a spin on a temporal reference.

His collections have explored the subcultures of ‘50s-era Americana, the dazzling ‘70s and a “Virgin Suicides” tainted ‘90s suburban America. From these time vignettes always emerges a strong and focused story about a strong and inspirational woman.

Calvin Luo: NYFW FW19

[portfolio_slideshow id=64701 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

His Spring/Summer 2019 collection was seeded by “Les Femmes de l’ombre”, a 2008 French movie based on the story of Lise de Baissac. Lise was an espionage operative in the SOE (special operations executive) in the end years of the Second World War. Her codename was Adele.

Women such as Adele pioneered femininity as a stealth weapon – concealing their strength behind their glamorous demeanor. Calvin shows a balanced line up of coats and trench coats, suiting and strong structured shoulder shirting and blouses juxtaposed with lace, feather and rushing details to create his “New Look”.

Calvin Luo continues to tell the story of a strong independent woman, adorned in femininity.

Hardeman Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

Hardeman NYFW FW19

Represented by EB Consults Worldwide.

On Sunday, Sept 9th, 2018, Hardeman took a social message about Safe Sex and Consent to NYFW with their newest collection “Sprung Flung.”

Wrapped in the designer’s own Sharpie doodle prints and sprinkled with condom-sized pockets, the collection reflected a liberated state of mind, free from any daily dilly-dally.

Hardeman draws inspiration from their own experiences and speaks to social and societal constructs. Upon arrival to their presentation, guests were gifted custom Hardeman Condoms, created in partnership with frankly, by Say It With A Condom. Spring Break will never end with your Hardeman on.

[portfolio_slideshow id=64612 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

In true Hardeman style, the new Spring/Summer 2019 collection kept things “cheeky” in both a conceptual and literal sense, with models sauntering hand-in-hand into a never ending party with music provided by DJ Luis Bobadilla. A special performance of “Love Mirage,” a song composed especially for Hardeman by local artist Pvssyheaven, had models giving each other sweet kisses, swapping outfits, and blowing up condom balloons. Dancing their nearly-bare bums off, they reveled in their own enjoyment while delivering a message of safe sex, encouragement, respect, and self-love. The collection was sustainably made using reclaimed materials.

Long-time collaborative makeup innovator Allie Smith of Bridge Artists partnered with Ben Nye Makeup as the Official Hardeman Makeup Partner, marking Ben Nye’s first-ever fashion collaboration in over half of a century in business. LuxeLab in association with L’Oréal Professionnel returned as the exclusive Hardeman Hair Team, and custom nails were created by buzz-worthy nail technician Nails By Juan Alvear.

Guests enjoyed beer provided by Old Blue Last Beer by Vice Media Group, and were able to purchase pieces from the Happy Hardeman capsule, which had recently debuted at Paris Fashion Week in June.

About Hardeman

Hardeman is an Amsterdam-based denim brand by Creative Director Sophie Hardeman, who was recently honored by Forbes EU on their 2018 “30 Under 30” list. HARDEMAN uses denim to break all conventions. The Amsterdam-based brand takes everybody’s favorite material and transforms it into deconstructed, gender-fluid clothing that couldn’t be further from your trusty 501’s.

Sophie and her namesake brand Hardeman have been deconstructing all that is normal about denim since Hardeman’s inception. This season marks Hardeman’s sixth collection and third year in business, punctuated by the launch of their secondary line, Happy Hardeman. Never boring, always sexy and slightly side of center, Hardeman is humorous, polarizing, and magnetic – as proven by those who wear it: fashion-forward style icons such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Kali Uchis.

Telfar Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

0

Telfar NYFW FW19

Represented by Gia Kuan.

On Sunday, September 9, Telfar Clemens presented the TELFAR Spring/Summer 2019 collection at BLADE Lounge East in New York City. This collection is dedicated to America: nice landscape, good arable land and plenty of shelter to go around.

TELFAR

Become a queer, Liberian-American eighteen year old, travel back to 2004 and establish a 100% unisex fashion line in New York City. Try to make clothes that do not exist on the market — just as you don’t exist in the world. Try to make pure garments without the ornament of gender, race, class; high and low; male or female. Don’t have any money. Find your inspiration from not just the best clothes but the most clothes: the material reality of clothes, as a flow of communication, as a form of pollution; be as inspired by Old Navy as Helmut Lang. Persist for a decade despite being ignored. If the road is closed to you — cut a new one. If you can’t get into stores, get into museums. Design the uniforms for 10,000 employees of White Castle. Win the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Keep your family close, ignore the bullsh*t. Good luck — lot’s of love.

SS—19 COLLECTION

“NUTBUSH TENNESSEE”

TELFAR SS — 2019 is dedicated to America: nice landscape, good arable land and plenty of shelter to go around.

Casual dress shirts in an immigrant palette are slashed at the armpits and the elbows; can button up like turtlenecks or wrap at the waist without a need for buttons. Embroidered chains run across them like stripes under jackets and coats in three lengths with detachable shawl sleeves in a poly twill.

Inside-out, reversible T-shirts lay images from last season’s look-book over American flags, eagles, horses, and beer graphics: vintage Americana; layered, slashed and multiplied across the collection as panels and cut-in’s for a range of fugue 50’s silhouettes.

A modular denim section allows pattern pieces to be switched out to make a flare, a capri or a cut-out. Whole denim segments are replaced with other categories of garment: bell bottoms of high-street appliqué T-shirt; pant tops of Middle-American sweat-pant — or the gesture of a printed boxer short held in perpetual sag.

The collection is 100% unisex.

BOFFO BUILDING FASHION

Our SS—19 runway is a collaboration with the architecture SO-IL as the 13th iteration of the BOFFO Building Fashion initiative — fostering collaborations between architects and fashion designers through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

A site specific project — our structure is built upon the BLADE Lounge East Helicopter pad — which was the setting of an iconic portrait of Biggie Smalls, Lil Kim and Junior Mafia and overlooks the Queensboro bridge which Telfar crossed daily on his trip from Manhattan to his home in Queens.

So-Il has transformed this space through a design inspired by mobile safari cars in which the question of who is on display and who is walking free becomes ambiguous. This liberating ambiguity is brought to our runway, interupting the divisions between performers and spectators, subjects and objects. Rather than elevate the performers to create visibility for the viewers — the design choreographed the body’s of the audience — shaping them into a long ring through the use of simple rented fencing and construction supplies and creating a show in which everyone essentially is front row. A series of interiors and exteriors are created, a material disruption of the line of site through fencing, but also an aspect of participation through the choreography of the audience’s bodies.

Guests included Joey Bada$$, Clermont Twins, Miss J Alexander, Venus X, Rich The Kid, Salem Mitchell, Jamie Richardson (White Castle), Arthur Jafa, Wolfgang Tillmans, Ashland Mines, Misha Kahn, K8 Hardy, Lil Miquela, Ryan Destiny, Susie Lau, Asian Doll, Lady Fag, Calu Rivera, Aleali May, Vashie Kola, Zuri Marley, Junglepussy, Karen van Godtsenhoven (The Met), Pinky Girl, Bonang Matheba, Ebonee Davis, Leo Fitzpatrick, Chrissie Miller, Alton Mason, Ari Marcopoulos, Kara Walker, Roe Ethridge, Bonang Matheba, FAKA, Venus X, Dev Hynes, Ana Kras, Claude Adjil (Serpentine Galleries), Jenny Schlenzka (Performance Space), Pati Hertling (Curator), Ruth Gruca (CALA), Simon Castets (Swiss Institute), Torraine Futurum, Joseph ‘Gitoo’ Wright, Haley Wollens, Camilla Venturini, and more.

Anthony Rubio Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

0

Anthony Rubio NYFW FW19

Pet Couturier Anthony Rubio, is no stranger to the runways, having done runway shows for ten years with the last six during Fashion Week.

He had a plan in place to break the stigma and barriers presenting his canine couture as escorted by human models wearing his women’s wear fashions at the historic Angel Orensanz Center, originally a Synagogue built in 1850.

The pet product industry is estimated to bring in 65 billion dollars annually. You can help but notice that pets, primarily dogs appear in everything from ad campaigns to commercials to television shows and movies. Pets have transitioned from man’s best friend to being considered actual family members. People who delay having children or can not have children have chosen to fill the void with a pet. As with any family member there will always be health issues and the need for vaccinations which in turn requires pet health insurance. Other expenses come in the form of pet grooming, pet sitting and/or pet accommodations while owners work or travel. Pet travel is huge as well because many hotels world wide have opened the doors to these family members.

Anthony Rubio: NYFW FW19

[portfolio_slideshow id=64527 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

With all of these expenses in place we can not negate the fact the appearances mean everything and that a first impression is based on how one presents oneself. Pet Parents believe that the best impression comes through fashion. Anthony Rubio Designs creates the most distinctive canine fashions to leave the most memorable impressions. Each custom designed garment is a work of art utilizing the best of everything. Anthony Rubio Designs is not only concerned with the pet looking it’s best but also that the pet is comfortable and safe in these one of a kind creation.

From Anthony Rubio

My name is Anthony Rubio a.k.a The Pet Couturier. I just finished presenting my much anticipated seventh season of fashions for humans and canines during New York Fashion Week. I labored tirelessly creating fashions and employed the assistance of only the most dedicated and loyal people to bring my visions to reality. Among those were my models, both human and canine who not only strutted in full glory but dedicated time to really get to know one another and harmonize with the dogs to bring about a seamless show.

Today, my show was a huge triumph thoroughly enjoyed by all. How do I know? I will tell you. The joy shines through all my models. What the audience witnessed was a professional fashion show like no other resulting in a deep appreciation of my vision.

My inspirations came from theater and film of an era where glitz and glamour defined your status in life. I referenced films like Chicago and Some Like It Hot. My models looked like centerfolds in society tabloids for old Hollywood Glam. While yes, there were floral pieces indicating the coming of Spring/ Summer 2019 there were also seductive dresses, some sheer in iridescent colors but mostly adorned with sequins and stones. The canines also wore bold colors, some had flashy formal ensembles a feast for the eyes and the audience truly loved it.

At the end, I came out to take my bow accompanied by Sunny, the Golden Labrador Retriever watched over the Summer grow on television’s Today Show from the Guide Dog Foundation. Sunny also wore a an Art Deco vest in gold sequins. The audience cheered and smiled as the applauded demonstrating how much they enjoyed my presentation. Those smiles said it all and I knew right then that our mission was accomplished.

Coming Soon For Anthony Rubio:

– Hard Cover 250 Pages Coffee Table Boon in February 2019
– LA Fashion Week on October 13th, 2018 in Los Angeles
– The Guide Dog Foundation Annual Gala October 11th 2018 in New York
– Anthony Rubio on Most Expensivest with 2Chainz airing now on Viceland

Moon Choi Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

Moon Choi NYFW FW19

Represented by Purple PR.

Specimen 19” is a considered study of materials by Moon Choi. Findings are presented as a series of tailored garments, each constructed with delicate, rarefied fabrications.

This season, Moon debuted relaxed outerwear and custom resin jewelry inspired by Aalto Vase styled as both earrings and men’s brooches.

Moon Choi’s collection blurs the boundary between feminine and masculine as it gently shifts the notion of gender identity. Moon believes clothes are not defined by gender. The SS19 collection emphasizes drape detail and delicate silk in an elegant tailoring, with ruched detailing to add refreshing texture to suiting.

The installation takes the form of a cabinet of curiosities, an encyclopedic, room-sized collection of extraordinary objects. Its arrangement reflects the designer’s material learnings, explorations and process.

Moon plays with the ideas of confidence and power by blending femininity and masculinity. She features her signature tailoring but also plays with olive, lemon and lilac color ways and silky fabrication that feel more sensual and feminine. This collection, just like day and night, is a balancing act where one cannot live without the other.

Son Jung Wan Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

Son Jung Wan NYFW FW19

Represented by Deborah Hughes, Inc.

Drama returns to the runway with Son Jung Wan’s latest for Spring/Summer 2019 show Saturday, September 9, 2019.

The Korea-born designer this season found inspiration in what she’s calling “a dramatic move” by way of highlighting glamour and exaggerated silhouettes.

The collection looks to various eras and extracts key stylistic touch points from these times past. Take the heightened volume of the 1970s and ‘80s; while echoes of 1940s and ‘60s romance ground the collection with a vintage feel. Yet, above all, the collection takes these top notes and threads them in uniquely modern ways.

Son Jung Wan: NYFW FW19

[portfolio_slideshow id=64567 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

Puff sleeves rendered in prints of Green Flash and Liberty florals meet fuschia rose A-lines wrapped in dandelions. Throughout the collection are bold, passionate pops of poppy contrasted by stark clean white. Finishes of 3D laces and holographic fabrics projected onto to vintage-inspired tailored shapes keep the collection contemporary; while spangle and beading evoke glamour as florals bring a sense of luxury. These romantic and chic silhouettes, through draping and tailoring, produce a vibrant rhythm for Spring.

For Spring / Summer 2019, Son Jung Wan unveils a most dramatic collection, filled with boldness matched by minimalism and maximalism, that brings vigor and glamor to the most rejuvenate season.
