Redress Design Award Finalists

Following a global search for talent, the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition culminated in a live Grand Final runway show last night in Hong Kong (6 September).

We’re pleased to announce Australian designer Tess Whitfort as Redress Design Award 2018 First Prize Winner!

As the world wakes up to the scale of our waste problem, the Redress Design Award represents a shining light of creativity and ingenuity amidst the backdrop of a global environmental crisis. This is even more relevant with media interest and Burberry’s very recent announcement that they will no longer burn unsold clothing and goods.

Ozlana Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

0

Ozlana NYFW FW19

Represented by EB Consults Worldwide.

Australian brand Ozlana presented their much-anticipated new collection DREAM STILL____ at New York Fashion Week.

An edgy yet romantic take on street couture, the new collection highlighted their experimental textiles, quality fabrics, and sustainable artisan techniques.

The mood at the runway was serene, with a naturalistic set design featuring dried wildflowers and pampas grass, soft fur overlays, and lightweight cloud props hanging from the air, illuminated in soft hues. The sound of chirping birds and projected moving scenes of waves and stars created an immersive experience, as if within nature, in the heart of midtown New York.

DREAM STILL____ translates a tale of nostalgia as a woman builds her life in the city, recalling her beautiful countryside youth, and lapsing into a sweet recollection of what has been. Presenting an All Seasons collection, and subverting the traditional fashion calendar, OZLANA brings a new moment to their audience, combining highly wearable, practical fashion with an idealistic, dreamy mood.

Designer Hannah Kim has created a casual and lux style with light feminine dresses in satin and chiffons, leather bomber jackets, and coloured fur gilets. DREAM STILL____ is a carefully developed collection, flowing effortlessly through a series of colourways transitioning from pretty pinks, baby blues and beiges, to black. Looks were layered, showing combinations of pieces. A strawberry motif embroidered on a long length knitted cardigan worn with a cherry print dress was accented by a red handbag and red sunnies for a cute look. A floral print pink dress with ruffled hem and cuffs oozed femininity.

Glints of metallic embellishments lifted the soft pastel palette, with beaded embroidery, delicate hanging eyeglass chains, and silver heels. Fun accessories gave a youthful feel, with mini handbags, complete with fur trimmed handles – a hint of the classic Ozlana aesthetic. Shoe options included clean white platform sneakers worn with transparent sheer socks, and pale pink gold buckled mules lined with fur. Models were styled with a certain girlishness, with floral face tattoos and textured teased hair in high ponytails.

The grand finale featured every model returning to the runway sporting a fur parka, Ozlana’s signature item. Plush fur-lined hoods in a multitude of colourways gave the wearer an expression of individual personality. So cozy, so covetable!

Dreamy romantic undertones came through a modern, youthful, wearable collection where traditional Spring/Summer & Autumn/Winter looks are effortlessly merged.

This season we would like to thank our official sponsors Alkaline Water, AOFM Pro, Milbon USA, and Stylecraft.

Area Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

Area NYFW FW19

For Spring/Summer 2019 we started immersing ourselves in Polish dance costume folklore.

Instead of using classic materials like wool and yarn, we started embroidering with various plastic beads and trinkets. This created an unexpected fusion of heritage and folklore and gave the garments a Chinatown-like flair. We developed a print which pays homage to a cover of the first Japanese gay magazine called Barazuku (which translates to “The Rose Tribe”). The prints rich and fresh colors were a starting point for the color story which includes aqua, green, and rose.

[portfolio_slideshow id=64314 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

This playful cultural exchange brought our research to Czech toy designer Libuse Niklova. The bold, graphic, and colorful blown up shapes started our journey in playing with volume. We started cutting our patterns to mimic inflation. Inflated folklore dolls are re-imagined in sheer organza with regal embellishments that evoke early 60s couture.

The set featured an inflated cloud installation by Pneuhouse Projects.

For evening wear, our starting point was Nina Simone’s fishnet crochet performance looks. Simple yet sensual, they resemble fluid armor. We developed a dress fully constructed of fine crystal strands with exaggerated fringe, a hybrid between jewelry and clothing.

As well this season, we are very excited to announce a partnership with Bertoni, a heritage Italian leather goods house. As do we, Berotoni strives to give every piece its own personality and identity. Each bag in the collection was given the name of an iconic “mean girl” from American high school movies. The bags represent perfectly an uptown vision of our downtown sensibility.

The same playfulness and celebration of artificial shine is evident in our ongoing partnership with Teva, this season taking the form of the classic Teva shapes loaded with black crystal beads.

Nonie NYFW FW19

Represented by The Riviere Agency.

Canadian ready to wear label Nonie showed their Spring/Summer 2019 collection to a venue overflowing with eager guests this afternoon for the first time at New York Fashion Week ready to catapult her career.

Stemming from recent A-list industry chatter, the fashion crowd was so excited to see what Nonie’s designer, Nina Kharey would produce next.

This season, the collection consisted of an abundance of silk and draping, inspired by Kharey’s Indian heritage. Satin materials in black, ivory, red, and yellow were crafted like they’re worn in traditional Indian culture, but styled in an everyday Western fashion.

Tops, jackets, and even the trench silhouette worn by Meghan Markle made their way down the runway in a surprising sheer material. Luxurious tied plunging necklines and asymmetrical ruching details recurred throughout the collection in a variety of hues with placement on the thigh of skirts and waistline on mid-length dresses.

“This line was created from my heart and passion. It’s made up of clothing designed for women who don’t want the hassle of figuring out how to wear certain trends or statement pieces, but want to look well put together instantly. It’s for women who appreciate longevity with their clothes.” said designer Nina Kharey just before her New York runway debut.

Nonie’s goal is to create clothing that gives the wearer effortless style that lasts in their closet for a life time. Several conversations were overheard at the venue that the label is the next big name to hit the fashion industry.

Notable attendees included editors from ELLE, Cosmopolitan, The Zoe Report, CR Fashion Book, and Nylon as well as Miss USA Sarah Summers, actress Amanda Fuller of Orange is the New Black, Host of Top Model Ukraine Alla Kostromichova, and singer Julie Mintz.

Vivienne Hu Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

Vivienne Hu NYFW FW19

New York based contemporary luxury womenswear label, Vivienne Hu, is pleased to unveil the latest collection for Spring/Summer 2019 with a runway show held on Friday, September 7th at Spring Studios in Tribeca for New York Fashion Week.

Creative Director Vivienne Hu got her inspiration from flowers and fruits. While flowers of kindness resemble all dainty and ravishing beauties in the world, fruits of evilness resemble the struggles in our life. The brand presented a youthful and vibrant look on the runway.

Vivienne Hu: NYFW FW19

[portfolio_slideshow id=64053 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

This season started by looking at flowers and the botanical gardens that house them. The design team became interested in the organic and delicate nature of the flowers and the very rigid architecture within these gardens. It was the paradox of these two things existing in the same space that inspired the collection. The team decided to analyze this dichotomy, looking specifically at good vs. evil. Good and evil as concepts aren’t black and white, both can’t exist without each other and are opposite while also needing each other to exist. The fabrications used in this collection are all special textures and designs, the design team developed playing with the texture of flowers. The silhouettes both embody the organic shape of the flowers, while also incorporating structure from the architecture. The clothing features ruffles, pleating, rouching etc. to replicate the floral structure.

This season the VivienneHu girl is more playful. She’s more confident in embracing her feminine side. She’s extremely empowered. The clothes features fabrication that are present in the history of womenswear dress: ruffles, lace, velvet, floral prints, silks, rouching, sequins etc. The collection designs into the classic tailored jacket that Vivienne Hu is known for and offers many different fashion forward options of this classic style providing her customers a one of a kind and jaw dropping look. The brand dives into denim, for the first time really delivering a strong and unique take on denim. This collection is for any woman looking to expand her closet and be the envy of her friends. The classic silhouettes and expensive finishing combined with expertly designed fabrication in the colors for spring make for this season’s must haves. This also marks the debut of Vivienne Hu Couture and Red Carpet line which features exclusive designs that are only made to order.

As part of the runway show, Vivienne Hu is pleased to announce that Ex:Beaute has released special gifts on Sept 7th. Ex:beaute is a high-quaility makeup brand from Tokyo Japan, which has released exclusive lipstick palettes “for VivienneHu SS19”. The lipstick palette includes five colors, Modern Red, Premium Pink, Soft Orange, French Beige, and Sweet Pink, which can be applied in a creative way to suit the needs for the trendy VivienneHu girl. Ex:beaute shared same vision with VivienneHu, aiming to provide customers the best experience with devotion and passion. The exclusive collaboration was a huge success, and opened up more space for future international collaborations.

Strands by Lauren Dreier Spring 2019: New York Fashion Week

Strands by Lauren Dreier NYFW FW19

Represented by EB Consults.

Interdisciplinary designer and visual artist Lauren Dreier, kicked off New York Fashion Week SS’19 on Thursday evening, February 6th, with a collaborative exhibition of art, fashion, and design, featuring In seconds, then beats: for string quartet.

The event, held from 1-9pm, with the main performance at 7pm, was sponsored by 3dMonstr and BuildPl8, Falke, and Sourland Spirits.

Stripes, Strands, & Strings showcased eight original designs by Dreier, made from both traditional and non-traditional materials:

Strands – Organza and leather on maple and leather harness
Dress 2 – PET film and leather
Dress 3 – Braided mylar and organza on maple and leather harness
Thou shalt not spline – PTFE film, leather and acrylic
Dress 5 – White oak veneer and leather
Interpolate this – Leather and PET film
Look 7 – Stone veneer and leather
Pant – Organza, PET film and leather

Strands by Lauren Dreier: NYFW FW19

[portfolio_slideshow id=64039 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

The exhibition also included five striped oil paintings that hung horizontally throughout the space and were created by Dreier on 44″ x 25″ oil on vinyl, canvas and linen.
Untitled yellow, 2011-2013. Oil on vinyl. 44″ x 25″
Untitled brown, 2011-2015. Oil on vinyl. 44″ x 25″
Untitled copper, 2011-2016. Oil on vinyl 44″ x 25″
Untitled white, 2011-2014. Oil on canvas 44″ x 25″
Untitled pink, 2018. Oil on linen. 44″ x 25″

The original score for string quartet was composed by Morgan Gerstmar, and performed by Dreier and Molly Germer on violin, Gerstmar on Viola, and Thea Mesirow on cello. The piece represented two types of performers including the aforementioned musicians, and the eight models spaced throughout the room – two models per one musician. During the performance each model chose one A and one B strand and stood in front of a musician. Each musician would then perform any Module visible between the model’s two hands, changing from Part A Strands to Part B Strands and back again, at a predetermined time.

Part A Modules represented long drones, with the length of each note determined by the individual musician. Counted in seconds, not beats, the note would maintain the same length throughout the piece. Part B Modules were represented as rhythmic and being above the speed of a heartbeat, with the first performer playing the B Module determining the speed.

A newcomer to New York Fashion Week, Dreier has a diverse background spanning art, architecture, design and engineering. Her work explores the finite yet transformative nature of materials as a possible agent for mediation between disciplines. The exhibition used the idea of strands, stripes and striated forms to describe, explore and create volume, literally weaving together the exhibition’s many parts and materials.
