8 Days in Japan.” The SS19 Collection was inspired by Designer Mike Rubin’s first visit to Japan this past spring. The intersection of peaceful contemplation with the organized chaos of Tokyo, and a lifelong appreciation of the illustrative work of the Japanese artist Hokusai, informed the design process.

“My inspiration behind the 2019 ‘Power of Love’ Collection was a relaxed and effortless style. I love creating glamorous pieces that fit perfectly and create a beautiful silhouette, but at the same time appear relaxed and chic. The Power of Love collection has gowns that are understated and quite simple, but also exude a sensual feeling. For me it all comes down to the cut and the movement. If the architecture and foundations of the gown are not there, you do not have a fabulous wedding dress. So that is what I was inspired to achieve in this collection.”

I love creating glamorous pieces that fit perfectly and create a beautiful silhouette

British designer Caroline Castigliano, has been in the bridal and eveningwear industry for 27 years and understands that every bride has different needs and wants. In her collections, there is something for ever bride to make their own. With every handcrafted Castigliano gown, a sketch turns into a bride’s dream more astonishing than they could ever imagine. We asked Caroline for her tips when choosing a dress and here is her advice!

“Once they have booked the venue, and they have seen the room where they are going to have their wedding breakfast, they have seen the dance floor, they just want to think about that moment. When you leave the table, and walk towards the dance floor with their now husband how is it that they want everyone to see them.

You don’t need to know the shape of the dress, if you are working with an expert they will find the silhouette for you. What you need to know is what that dress is saying to people. Is it saying a very strong traditional look, soft and romantic, elegant and classic, vintage, boho. What is the appeal of the dress?

Without considering the silhouette decide on the vision – once this has been determined – go try on gowns and you will get advice. It is important to work with someone that understands silhouettes and fabrics so they can show you what suits you what creates a strong silhouette for you.

If you are 5ft you will suit totally different silhouettes to someone that is 5’8” tall – if you are full busted you will suit different silhouettes to a bride that is more petite. Once you get going it is all quite easy but it starts with that one all important question – What vision do I want my future husband and my guests to see when I arrive at the wedding.”

Briogeo: An Interview with the Inspiring Female Behind the Brand

Briogeo: An Interview with the Inspiring Female Behind the Brand

As much as I hate to admit it, I am one of those people who, regardless of how many hair masks and tool-free months I endure, my hair always seems to be damaged.

In college I was obsessed with making my naturally dark brown hair long and blonde, just as every other fresh sorority girl does. My long blonde hair, that was perfectly curled every day, slowly started to become damaged and non-sorority approved.

So when I moved to New York, I decided to leave my sorority-endorsed look behind and sport an icy white-blonde long bob. Now this was back in 2014, when having hair as white as porcelain was becoming a huge trend, but having to bleach and tone my hair every few weeks was brutal on my hair.

having to bleach my hair every few weeks was brutal on it

As I began to notice my hair legit fall out and break off, even if someone brushed against it, I knew it was time to kiss my blonde days goodbye. For about 3 years I have been trying to revive my natural locks with every mask and treatment known to mankind.

I have been trying every mask and treatment known to mankind

Being the Beauty Director has been a blessing to my wallet, as I get to test out tons of products made to revive hair that has horror stories such as mine. I have noticed a difference when I try a super expensive product, but not enough that I would dish out over $100 to mend a few of my split ends.

Enter Briogeo, whose Don’t Despair, Repair line soaks up moisture like my plants do, after I forget to water them for two weeks. Every product is silicone-, sulfate-, and cruelty-free. So no matter how much of a product I slap on my hair, it won’t chemically hurt it or show short-term-only results. Let me tell you, when you try out these products you will be hooked. But when you learn about the brand’s history and the story of its founder you will be dedicated.

We spoke with the ultra-inspiring Nancy Twine about her brand and simply can’t get enough.

Q: You launched Briogeo back in 2013 at Sephora. In the last 5 years you have lifted Briogeo to a cult status hair brand with tons of awards. What has been the key to this major success?

One of the major keys to success for Briogeo has been staying true to who we are from the beginning. Briogeo bridges the gap between clean ingredients and effective hair care — and most of all, we formulate innovative products for a diverse array of hair needs, no matter the texture or type. It’s been our commitment to clean formulas, innovation, and celebrate diversity of hair that’s propelled us to win at what we do.

our commitment is to clean formulas, innovation, and diversity of hair

Q: The new Be Kind, Be Gentle Superfood Shampoo and Conditioner quickly reached the number one bestselling Shampoo & Conditioner spot on Sephora.com. First of all, congrats! Second, what sparked this new development of these products?

I’ve always been a proponent of “you are what you eat.” I’ve found that what I put into my body can determine my energy levels, ability to focus, and even mood! And the same is true about what you put on your hair and skin.

I love making my own smoothies at home because it’s my guaranteed way of ensuring I’m getting the right amount of nutrients from fruits and vegetables each day. I control what goes into my smoothies and kale, matcha, & apple are a few of the recurring ingredients I use in my custom concoctions.

I’m a stickler for research and while delving into some of the ingredients I use in my green juices and smoothies, I learned about the incredible benefits these ingredients have on the hair.

Kale, for example, is packed with tons of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals that can help ward off hair follicle inflammation and dull-looking hair.

Apple is rich in procyanidin, a flavonoid, which scientific studies have shown to encourage hair growth. Matcha green tea is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the hair and scalp against environmental stressors, like pollution and UV rays.

Q: You were inspired by your grandmother’s natural hair remedies. How were you able to stay true to her early formulas while being able to mass produce them?

While Briogeo products are not replicas of my family’s formulas, many of the key ingredients in each formula were inspired by the same ingredients my family used to create natural, custom beauty solutions for the family.

formula are inspired by the same ingredients my family used

Ingredients like rosehip, jojoba, sweet almond, shea, and avocado oil are some of the ingredients we used to formulate growing up and that are featured as key ingredients throughout our entire product line.

Q: Would you ever dip your feet into other areas of the clean beauty evolution?

Absolutely! We know the importance of clean beauty expands beyond just hair care — and that wellness expands just beyond clean beauty. We’re excited for what’s in store in 2019 and to be able to share more about what the category means for Briogeo.

Q: What were your favorite products to create?

Most recently, I had a lot of fun developing the concept for our new Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Collection. The packaging concept was really fun and unique and the goal was to bring to life the green juice/smoothie concept as it relates to shampoo and conditioner.

We spent months researching the best green juice/smoothie ingredients to fortify each formula, with the goal of using fruits and veggies to restore vital nourishment and health to the hair. The feedback and reviews so far have been overwhelmingly positive and I’m thrilled that we were able to succeed in tying back nutritional wellness to hair care.

We spent months researching the best green juice/smoothie ingredients

Q: What is next for Briogeo?

We’re really focused on creating innovative (and necessary!) products that the clean hair care world has yet to have seen! In addition to that, we’re hard at work on developing some interesting new concepts within clean beauty that are meant to enhance what Briogeo brings to the overall clean and wellness category.

Be sure to try out their amazing new shampoo and conditioner duo at Sephora as well as cult-favorites from Don’t Despair, Repair and Scalp Revival.

Flora Miranda Fall 2018-2019: Paris Fashion Week

0

Flora Miranda Paris Fashion Week FW18/19

Represented by Totem Fashion.

Ready To Die” is a pun on “Ready To Wear” fashion collections.

For this body of work Flora Miranda deals with ‘death’ in a broader sense, namely the fugacity of fashion products – finding the beauty in sadness and nostalgia.

Flora Miranda: Paris FW18/19

[portfolio_slideshow id=59046 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

The first thought to on ‘death’ is the custody and sterility of garments in museum collections, which leads to the image of the museum being a cemetery of goods.

The second thought is copying versus referencing. At Miranda’s time at the Antwerp fashion academy the first principle was “Do not look at other designer’s works for inspiration! Use historical references.” For this collection we wonder what ‘historical’ means. As soon as we find an idea in a museum, open for referencing, it becomes educational and dead. Why is it taboo to reference to designs that were just presented a day ago? Yesterday = History? When is something out of fashion?

We 3d scanned a selection of museum pieces which strike by silhouette, texture and storytelling. By virtualising these pieces they transform to be dead in cyberspace. But their data becomes everlasting, the information is stored and can be directly reproduced at any moment.

We worked upon the 3d models in a way, that the files can be reproduced into real life. We then built these 3d structures in different techniques by hand and the help of machines.

Flora Miranda’s mission is to challenge the obsolete notions of haute couture, and for some years now has been exploring physical boundary experiences that take place in real and virtual spaces. She sees the body as pure information – a thought that makes it possible to send the body “like an e-mail”. By this novel, techniques are found and detached from design tradition or history.

Flora spent her formative years growing up in the circle of a family of artists and musicians where she developed her skills as a painter. After finishing her master degree at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, she executed projects for Iris Van Herpen.

Flora’s work is strongly picked up by the art world, leading to several exhibition participations at spaces as Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, Liu Haisu Museum Shanghai, Haus Der Kulturen Der Welt Berlin and Somersethouse London. For her creations she received prices including the Rado Starprize Austria, Outstanding Artist Award for Experimental Fashion Design by BKA, Mittelmoda award for Technology and she was a finalist at International Talent Support.

“Flora Miranda ́s approach examines the future possibilities of fashion, an interdisciplinary artistic fundamental research: From this she delivers a completely new aesthetic with a surprising visual impact, in the fashion world that is dominated by citation she opens an independent position for herself.” (Jurymembers O.A. Award: Stavros Karelis, Rosario Morabito, Branko Popovic, Patricia Romatét)

Galia Lahav Fall 2018-2019: Paris Fashion Week

0

Galia Lahav Paris Fashion Week FW18/19

Represented by Totem Fashion.

This season, Galia Lahav and Sharon Sever invite their audience to feel the freedom, playfulness and womanly allure of their newest collection, And God Created Woman.

With the French Riviera as a backdrop, this collection is rooted in vibrant tulles reminiscent of the seaside and the colors and curves of floral patterns. In keeping with the style of abstract expressionism and Monet’s impressionism, And God Created Woman was designed with both small and large scale floral chiffon prints made from Sever’s own watercolour drawings.

Galia Lahav: Paris FW18/19

[portfolio_slideshow id=58995 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

This collection strays from the overtly sexy aesthetic Galia Lahav is typically known for, and instead is more flirtatious and free in its silhouettes and shapes. Bold and fresh colors like acid and emerald green, ice pink and denim blue give the collection a more playful air, while natural colors like black and nude help ground the looks in maturity and womanhood. And God Created Woman is designed for the Juliette Hardy within
us, a woman who is adamant in celebrating her youth, expressing her inner beauty and grasping her independence.

This collection can be broken down into moments in which the wearer is fresh and matured, rooted and free, vibrant and earthy. The plethora of silhouettes include jumpsuits, corset tops and t-shirt dresses. The bold floral patterns which contrast the softness of the sheer tulles use shapes and styles to mark the phases of a woman’s evolution.

The intent is for the wearer to be encouraged to blossom into her true self, to utilize the collection to showcase her self expression and individuality.

“Because she’s brave enough to do what she wants when she wants.”
And God Created Woman

XUAN Fall 2018-2019: Paris Fashion Week

0

XUAN Paris Fashion Week FW18/19

Represented by Totem Fashion.

The collection is about what we want to show and what we prefer to hide, being unveiled while desiring to be covered.

In this world of constant development of new technology, high tech materials everything seems to overlook the value of noble materials and organic visions.

XUAN desires to explore new ways of using old-fashioned materials.

XUAN: Paris FW18/19

[portfolio_slideshow id=59086 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

The result is a collection with puffy jackets, with an increased puffiness by using patted flowers, hand ‘laser-cut’ embroideries and ‘3-D digital’ hand printed assembled flowers with a wink.

XUAN regards each look as a part of the story she is telling. The imagination of each look and its possibilities and its versions is to be continued endlessly. Everything is open and exposed. The world is being seen through the eyes of a camera, longing for intimacy and the excitement of discovering.

Going back to what is essential.
