CHANEL Fall 2018/19: Paris Fashion Week

CHANEL Paris Fashion Week FW18/19

Represented by CHANEL USA.

Haute Couture is Paris”.

Attached, as always, to the capital city, Karl Lagerfeld pays tribute to literary Paris, the one of book lovers and the Académie Française. Opposite the dome of the Institut de France, a décor of the Seine quayside lined with the world-famous book sellers’ “boxes”. An invitation to stroll that’s willingly accepted by CHANEL’s Parisiennes, who wear folded cuff booties and are mischievously coiffed with Rockabilly quiffs and ponytails.

CHANEL: Paris FW18/19

[portfolio_slideshow id=58895 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

Autumnal Paris inspires the season’s color palette: the pale grey of zinc rooftops, anthracite of street asphalt, black and a deep nocturnal navy, gold and silver reflections of the Moon in the rippling Seine. The pale pink and mauve of sunrise, the white, ecru and beige of cloudy mornings, the almond green of the roofs of historic buildings, all reinforce the gentle panorama. In this sublimated Paris, crystal embroideries aligned like cobblestones, tulles netted and embroidered with gold recalling the padlocks on the Pont des Arts, sound like a declaration of love to a city of fashion and culture, to a rich historical heritage.

Tweed, classic or plumetis, flannel, velvet, crêpe, lace, taffetas, radzimir and chiffon adorn a slender silhouette. It adopts an original central theme: a zip embellished with braid splits the profile of skirts and jackets with narrow sleeves, sometimes framing them completely. A construction that structures an ultra-elegant look: as well as often-contrasting linings, the zips on long or knee-length skirts reveal a mini-skirt while those on the jackets expose an enhanced waist and, on the arms, long colorful fingerless gloves. Thus revisited, the iconic suit alternates with trompe-l’oeil dresses and long coats. It returns once more in painted organza imprisoning a sheet of embroidered aluminium. Jackets are also joined by pleated skirts. Chiffon blouses, high band collars, lace tops, and others with plastrons embroidered with sequins, beads and crystals, further enrich the collection.

For evening, the shoulders are split, the busts richly adorned, embroidered and draped with bows, in complete contrast to the understated skirts and lower part of dresses. Lightness and delicacy are the order of the day with a chiffon or tulle sweater warming an embroidered top. A draped and embroidered neckline in lace and silver tissue paper drops into a fluid sheath dress. Another in silk georgette is structured with an asymmetric drape from the shoulder. A bustier waistcoat embroidered like a sunset responds to a long straight skirt in chiffon tiered with flat pleats. Other bustiers are worn with bubble skirts in frothing tulle. Boleros in night-hued sequins glitter like the lights reflecting in the Seine, while tops with crystals placed like Parisian cobblestones answer voluptuous skirts in white, black or grey chiffon.

sequins glitter like lights reflecting in the Seine

The iconic CHANEL black dress, lined with a miniskirt and a zipped bustier comes in braided tweed, or pleated silk georgette. An evening pyjama in organza and stitched aluminium lights up a twilight promenade with color. Velvet intervenes on a little black dress and its short silver robe, on a long black kimono with a lining embroidered with multicoloured flowers, a top braided with feathers sported with a long bubble skirt woven from silver tissue paper, and a long sheath dress finished with an embroidered bustier. The taffeta dresses have balloon shoulders, while others come with a high collar.

Finally, the bride steps out in a long straight dress and redingote-effect jacket in a pale green tweed embellished with leaves like those worn by members of the French Academy.

The new CHANEL ambassador Penélope Cruz, the CHANEL ambassadors Lily-Rose Depp, Vanessa Paradis, Pharrell Williams, Marine Vacth, Caroline de Maigret, Soo Joo Park, Ellie Bamber, Ayami Nakajo, Liu Wen and Zhou Xun, American actresses Tracee Ellis Ross and Mackenzie Foy, Thai actress Chutimon Chuengcharoensukuying, Canadian singer Charlotte Cardin, French actresses Diane Rouxel and Carole Bouquet as well as French ballet dancer Marie-Agnès Gillot attended the Fall-Winter 2018/19 Haute Couture runway show this Tuesday July 3rd at the Grand Palais. With this collection, Karl Lagerfeld reminds us that Paris is a unique capital of fashion, of the arts and of culture, at one with CHANEL.

Kithe Brewster continues to redefine Couture with multifunctional garments.

The collection explored hues of black, gold, purple, red, fuchsia, green and off-white, making for a palette both rich and chic. The fabrics used were silk, wool crepe and sequins.

This collection featured several permanent archive looks reinterpreted, cohesively intwined in this collection.

Intricate draping evoked the sexuality of the period exploring the deception that still plagues us today. Hand-painted voluminous pieces helped to translate this story.

Gigi C Bikinis To Show For the First Time During Miami Swim Week

Gigi C Bikinis Miami Swim Week FW19

Represented by Gnazzo Group.

Gigi C Bikinis, the luxury swimwear brand founded by mother and daughter duo Gigi and Tina Caruso, will debut their Resort 2019 and Spring 2019 Collection for the first time during this year’s Miami Swim Week.

At just 18 years old, Gigi Caruso — whose eponymous collections fuse clean lines, architectural shapes, and crisp, laser-cut details — has set the standard as being the youngest designer in the show’s history.

Caruso designed her collection around the idea of needing a well-designed suit that would work for more than just your average beachgoer. Whether you are lounging beachside on a tropical island or partaking in an afternoon of action-packed adventures on the water, Gigi’s pieces represent the concept of functional meets chic.

After the successful launch of their first pop-up retail location at The Grove in Los Angeles this Spring, the emerging brand is excited to bring their collection and vision to life this Summer, July 14 at the annual Funkshion Runway Show alongside of other cutting edge brands.

“We see Miami as an important market and we are so proud and humbled as a young brand to be showing here just a year after launching our first collection,” says founder and designer Gigi Caruso. “Growing up on the water in Southern California and taking part in water activities had me always on the lookout for a swimsuit with the ‘perfect fit. Each piece from our collections are designed to be functional without having to compromise on style.”

The collection offers a range of chic separates and one-pieces that showcase the brand’s signature aesthetic – clean lines, architectural shapes, and crisp, laser-cut details. A bold palette of solid black, white, red, and blue draws focus to the sleek silhouettes and intricate details, including hand-braided accents, inverted pleats and wrap-around silhouettes. Expert design features, such as luxury seam finishes and adjustable closures, give each piece support and structure, while exquisite, lightweight fabrics ensure a smooth, supple feel that accentuate the body.

Achieving the perfect fit is Gigi and Tina’s priority. Gigi C Bikinis are all perfectly contoured, comfortable and functional. Each style goes through a rigorous fit process in the company’s Los Angeles design studio and is carefully refined over a series of fittings. The patterns are then cut and sewn with expert precision. Before designs are put into final production, they are tested by Gigi to ensure their unique style, glamorous lines and durability. This commitment to style and the highest quality extends to every step of the manufacturing process, with in-house Quality Control overseeing and inspecting each phase of production to ensure all pieces are perfected before they ever hit the beach.

Achieving the perfect fit is Gigi and Tina’s priority

The Gigi C Bikinis invite only runway show will be hosted at the PARAISO tent (2100 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL) on Saturday, July 14 at 10 pm.

Gigi C Bikinis are sold online at www.gigicbikinis.com, where customers can view the entire collection, or shop the looks featured on the brand’s Instagram feed @gigicbikinis

ABOUT GIGI C BIKINIS

Gigi C Bikinis is a modern collection of luxury swimwear founded by 18-year-old Gigi Caruso and her mother, Tina. The company was founded on the belief that a great swimsuit should enhance your style—never inhibit it. Born and raised in Southern California, Gigi grew up on the water. She is an avid boater, wakeboarder, snorkeler, and swimmer. The beautiful beachwear she loved to wear was far too delicate to withstand being an active lover of the beach and watersports. Unable to find pieces that reflected her personal style, she decided to take matters into her own hands. Together with Tina—a former clothing designer and swimsuit model—Gigi began deconstructing and cutting up her old swimsuits and refashioning them into chic styles that are glamorous and stylish, and could withstand waves. The duo also referenced Tina’s modeling photos for inspiration by redesigning the classic styles she wore with fresh new twists. After two years of research and development, they officially launched Gigi C Bikinis in 2017.

Miami Swim Week Scam? @MiamiSwimWeek IG Cancels All Shows

0

⚠️ 2024 Advisories for Models and Designers:

Models: We do not recommend paying to walk during fashion week. There are plenty of established and legitimate fashion week producers where you can find casting information and either be paid to walk, or (at the very least) walk for free in exchange for videos and photos of the show for your portfolio.

Designers: Is there an “official” / “trademarked” Miami Swim Week? Read about the trademark dispute here.

The story below is from 2018.

@MiamiSwimWeek Instagram-Related Company Cancels All Shows

Don’t panic! Miami Swim Week is still on, but one prominent would-be producer apparently isn’t, as the Instagram account calling itself @MiamiSwimWeek — which has been actively recruiting designers and models since at least January — has cancelled all its “shows,” only days before the beginning of Miami Swim Week.

What does this mean? For most of us, absolutely nothing. But for a group of small designers who now feel conned by the Instagram account, linked to one Lanzer Robinson — and a number of sites, including MiamiSwimWeek.Online, MiamiSwimWeekGuide.com, TheShows.Miami, and SwimWeek.US — it represents bitter disappointment, lost money, hurt relationships, and flights to Miami that can’t be cancelled.

It’s an ever-present danger in the often confusing world of social media, where people with “official”-sounding Instagram names carry disproportionately high perceived authority in a certain field.

It’s an ever-present danger in the often confusing world of social media

The History

The company first came on the radar of Fashion Week Online on February 8, 2018, when we received an inquiry from a designer who said they had been contacted by “advertise@miamiswimweekguide.com” and offered packages for Miami Swim Week “from 1,000 to 25,000 dollars.”

The designer wanted to know whether we were familiar with the company, to which we replied there are multiple Miami Swim Week producers, and they should inquire about the company’s history of past shows.

Later that same day, we received an email from Lanzer Robinson of Miami Swim Week LLC, with an email signature including “advertise@miamiswimweekguide.com,” simply saying he wanted to introduce himself and he was: “excited to see [FWO’s] services rendered to helping us event specialist [sic] get our word out. I would love for our events to be listed on the website and would be happy to pay the listing fee.” [Side note: there is currently no listing fee for Miami Swim Week shows, free or ticketed.]

We responded by saying, “We’re all about supporting various producers,” and that we would wait for further information.

Soon thereafter, we began receiving emails from designers saying Lanzer’s company was claiming they had secured “the W” as a venue. We responded to each with the same message, that the producer was new to the market, and the designer should contact the W themselves to verify that venue was secured.

On May 17, we called the W South Beach [see important note below], and were given the names of two representatives there. We emailed, asking if the MiamiSwimWeek.Online shows would be held there, saying we had received a number of statements from designers that these shows would be at the W. We never received a response.

[Note: We received an email from the W South Beach saying they had no dealings with the producer in question, and that it was their belief the producer may have been planning a show at the W Miami.]

We never received a response from the W

Meanwhile, we continued to tell designers that they would need to evaluate for themselves, and urging them to verify with the W directly.

The Cancellation

FWO began receiving a surge of emails from designers on July 2, telling FWO their shows had been cancelled. Some had received an email from Lanzer Robinson stating he regretted that they would be cancelling all shows due to a “change in landscape,” and that refund requests can be sent to “miamiswimweek@gmail.com.”

On July 2, we reached out directly to Lanzer Robinson for a quote, but have not heard back as of press time.

Was a W Hotel Ever Secured?

Canadian brand Vitae Apparel were able to contact a W hotel directly, and told us:

“According to [the person at a W hotel], [Lanzer Robinson] was never responsive, always delayed in answering, and had not yet given her the deposit for the venue or given her any plans for the show. When I told her I got an email yesterday that the show is cancelled, she wasn’t even aware it had been cancelled.”

The designer’s contact at a W hotel had not received the deposit or been given any plans for the show

What it Means

A few told us what the cancellation means for them.

For Taylor Ross (@taylorross) — a designer/seamstress from Philadelphia, who makes custom clothing for mostly “local people” — the cancellation was potentially devastating. (As of today, she has been able to secure a spot at Descalzo Shows.)

This is her story, in her own words:

“I started to get skeptical when he kept pushing the deadline and not contacting me about giving him the rest of the money. I was so busy making a collection of swimwear that I kind of forgot about it. Not only did I raise money through a donation site, I had around 30 people give me cash donations, and companies in Philadelphia wanting to sponsor me. He told me he provided me with models … he sent me hundreds of models to choose from on two different occasions.

I had around 30 people give me cash donations, and companies in Philadelphia wanting to sponsor me

“I also have my own models I work with here in Philadelphia, who bought flights and paid for their stays. My family and friends have also paid hundreds towards flights and stays in Miami to see me participate in this fashion show. I bought hundreds of dollars worth of fabrics, and tools to make my swimwear. I stopped my work, took time off to create my swim suits, paid models, and did photo shoots for my new swimwear so I could have a more professional look on my social media accounts by the time I went to participate in the show.

I bought hundreds of dollars worth of fabrics, and tools to make my swimwear

“I am one woman … I create and make every single swimsuit on my own with my two hands. I have no one helping me. He caused me a great deal of stress and a huge chunk of money. He has embarrassed me completely, toward the people I have coming to support me, the models I have booked, to the sponsors and people who donated to me. I am mortified. I have been posting on social media and telling people for months about this huge opportunity that turned out to be nothing but a scam. Lanzer Ronbinson emailed me on July 3rd, a week before I have travel plans, to head down to Miami, and cancelled my show, stating he could not get the confirmations he needed to go forward with the shows.

“The funny thing about this is when I first started with this journey, I emailed him and called him asking if this was a scam, I said I can’t believe you would want me to participate in Miami Swim Week … this was really a huge thing to me. He responded back with saying I was trending on social media and he loves my work so much he was going to help me go global! So everyone would know who I was. Someone like me coming from barely anything with this huge dream to be a designer and create swimwear, would freak out over something like this, and I did. I was over the moon, my mom my family my friends were all so excited.

He responded back with saying I was trending on social media and he loves my work so much he was going to help me go global

“Now on July 4th I am scrounging up my money to still participate in Miami Swim Week through a different company, so I don’t look like a fraud to people who have donated to me and people who are flying into Miami to see me. I am out a great deal of money. What Lanzer did to me is so unfair, and I am in such shock. He is currently not answering any emails or phone calls about my refund.”

A History of Failed Shows

Sources suggest this isn’t the first time Lanzer Robinson has failed to deliver shows, to the detriment of designers, models, and others.

Producer Ashley-Victoria Smith of Descalzo Shows supplied us with the following story:

“It was 2015 and I was working on my production, Charlotte Swim Week in Charlotte, NC. It was in April that year when Lanzer Roberson (at that time going under Miami Swim Week Guide [note: Lanzer is also owner of a site called “NYFW Guide”] reached out me asking me to be his executive assistant … as he already knew that I had a full production, with designers such s Kyle King, Cocksox, KARO Swimwear, etc.

“A few days later, I got my own ‘Miami Swim Week Guide’ email account, a New York phone number for ‘direct calls’ and even a direct deposit form for my commissions. He told me that he would book my hotel and flight for the week as well. Everything looked totally legit, but the one thing that I couldn’t find was PREVIOUS SHOWS PHOTOS, VIDEOS, ETC. But having good faith in people, I just assumed that they were new and still building.

“The red flags started when I couldn’t provide the designers with DIRECT answers. I would forward the questions to him and he would say things like ‘when they pay, they’ll get the contacts,’ or something along those lines. But like others, I only pay knowing what I will get (so that was really backwards for me).

The red flags started when I couldn’t provide the designers with DIRECT answers

“Thankfully, I never secured a designer for that year’s show — but I did send my models. That Wednesday the week of the show, Lanzer personally calls my then-18-year-old model (who had never been to Miami before) to tell her that she was walking in a show for a designer.

Lanzer personally calls my then-18-year-old model

“That model resides in North Carolina, so booking a flight to Miami and a hotel isn’t cheap. She called me with excitement in her voice, and just happy to have been asked to participate, but I was thinking, ‘that’s odd, I haven’t heard from him in several weeks, nor have I gotten my hotel or flight booked as promised from him.’

“Nonetheless, I told her to keep me posted. So with just two days notice — she paid for everything out of pocket– at 8am the day of the so-called show, my phone is going off. It’s my model, in tears, crying her eyes out, so confused, telling me there is no show.

“The hotel she was told to go to (Hilton Bentley), to meet her designer, didn’t have a reservation for her, or anything under Miami Swim Week – nothing, nada, zero.

The hotel didn’t have a reservation for her, or any for Miami Swim Week

“I started googling ‘Lanzer Roberson’ ‘Miami Swim Week Guide’ and found Stacey Williams who just happened to have also been scammed by them. Now she was flying in from New Jersey when Lanzer told her, THE DAY OF THE SHOW, that the production was cancelled. Stacey is in flight to Miami just LIVID.

“I was on the phone for literally hours all day that Friday just trying to find more information, other designers — it was a nightmare. It took a whole month for Stacey to get her refund from him because she went to press charges.

“Now even though the designers may get their refund from the production, they don’t get their true investment back; hotel, flight, additional marketing/pr, other show preparations, etc… it’s a huge loss for those who don’t have a second option to showcase.

“I asked him why he cancelled the show, he said ‘death in family.’ But on his Facebook page he was all about promoting how much fun he was having at the Essence Festival in Louisiana THAT SAME WEEKEND.

He was at the Essence Festival in Louisiana THAT SAME WEEKEND

“I am happy to share my story and call this man out in his wrong doing to many designers who do not deserve to be treated like this.”

##

Corrections: A representative of the W South Beach said they had no dealings with the producer in question, and that it was their belief the producer may have been planning a show at the W Miami, which is a separate hotel. We are currently trying to find more information. However, it is worth noting that FWO has received no complaints against either W Hotel.

Best of the Best – Your Home Away from Home in Napa Valley

0

Napa Valley Hotels

We’ve previously shared our favorite Napa Valley wineries, from the best cave tours to the most relaxing and best outdoor scenery here, but if you haven’t booked your trip yet, now is the best time to do so.

If you needed a little more convincing, check out our two favorite hotels in Napa to make your trip feel like you’re at home (if your home includes the best food, decor, and hospitality, that is).

The Poetry Inn

The Poetry Inn

Rather unassuming from below and probably intended this way, Poetry Inn is an exclusive, home-away-from-home (if you’re a celebrity) that you cannot afford to miss when visiting Napa Valley. Designed by the famed Howard Bachen and opened by Cliff Lede in 2005, the Poetry Inn is nestled on a cliff overlooking the beautiful Napa Valley. Consisting of 5 rooms appropriately named after famous poets, just like their writing, no two rooms are the same. With each, however, guests will enjoy their own veranda with sweeping views, fireplaces, king sized beds, and impeccable hospitality.

Each room contains an indoor and outdoor shower, sprinkled with L’Occitane essentials for those beauty and skincare lovers. The Inn has its own spa room so guests can destresports without having to leave the premises.

Great food is synonymous with feeling at home and the Poetry Inn spares no expense in that category, either. Guests can opt for a breakfast-in-bed, or join other guests outside the common veranda. The in-house chef prepares your meal, which started with fresh pastries from Bouchon Bakery – Thomas Keller’s famed home to all things sweet.

No detail is left unturned, including heated bathroom floors, decadent chocolates and sweet welcome notes left in your room while away, and incredible hospitality and conversation from the innkeepers. And if by the end of the day you are wined out, a night cap is waiting for you in the cozy lobby that feels more like a summer house living room, so pour yourself a drink and reminisce about the day.

No detail is left unturned at The Poetry Inn

The Meritage Resort and Spa

The Meritage Resort

The Meritage Resort and Spa is my other go-to Napa hotel, because it really has everything you need in one place. From plush and cozy rooms with beautiful balconies offering views of rolling Napa hillside to the on-site Trinitas Estate Cave, where guests can go for wine tastings or spa services, this resort is unique for its location. The lobby is as welcoming as the staff and despite the amazing wineries you will be surrounded by, you’ll feel you have everything you need right there.

The grounds host an award-winning restaurant, Siena, and across the street is The Village, housing nine tasting rooms and a fresh market. The Meritage has two heated swimming pools as well as three outdoor whirlpools to wind down after a long day in the Napa sun, or if there’s a chill in the air, cozy up next to the outdoor fire pits. If you still have some energy left, there’s even a bowling alley in The Meritage’s Crush Lounge.

The grounds host an award-winning restaurant, Siena

Each room in the Meritage is different, but they all offer large beds, ample space, rustic yet innovative bathrooms, and views (private balcony, anyone?). Even the standard guestroom is luxurious compared to your typical hotel. If you want just a little extra space, opt for one of the luxury suites with living room space, kitchens, and much more.

I’m a sucker for details and they never go unnoticed. Guests are welcomed with a bottle of Trinitas wine and each room is stocked with Fresh beauty products, including shampoo, condition, soy face cleanser, and lotion. A hotel that cares not only about your experience but your beauty routine has my vote!

Not to mention, The Meritage is pet-friendly … need I say more? If you’ve yet to make your way to Napa Valley, this is the perfect time to visit and unwind, but remember, the wine only tastes as good as the sleep you got the night before, and both of these options have got you covered.

Questions to Paola Emilia Monachesi, Creative Director

Q: Au197Sm trascends the boundaries of material and style: what does it mean exactly?

The name itself expresses the history of the project: the letters Au197Sm represents the chemical symbol of the sole stable isotope of gold. Indeed, we melt 24 Karat gold and other precious metals with fabrics, through a patent-protected process, that involves both complex engineering and totally handmade processes. We have also been the first to apply ultrasound seams on fine fabrics. Until now precluded to technical materials with a minimum percentage of synthetic fiber, Au197Sm had opened the way to the use of ultrasound bonding with garments made of cady, silk and jersey, among others. Indeed, the casting of gold and other precious metals that characterizes its collections alters the composition of the fibers, making them suitable for ultrasound seaming.

Q: Taking part to AltaRoma with the “Couture collides Nano-Technology” collection Au197Sm has just debuted in the couture industry: what is the trait d’union between technology and couture?

Technology, research and tradition are the key points of our philosophy, which has revolutionised the concept of craftsmanship and of handmade as applied to fashion, in a manner that includes the use of the latest generation machines by expert hands. The result is a real tech-couture in a futuristic mould that we decided to present in the key capitals of couture fashion -– first Rome, then Paris -– to a new audience that knows how to recognise and appreciate the avant-garde content.

we have revolutionised the concept of craftsmanship

Q: What does it mean for a creative director to work on the creation of the material itself?

We feel at the core-point of fashion creation’s future. Our creative model is absolutely innovative: the collection does not start with sketches, design and models. On the contrary, we start with creating new fabrics and textures: we play with a wide range of materials and techniques, spanning, for example, from gold to plexiglass and from fusion to ultrasound bonding. Through experimentation we then propose and launch extremely innovative looks.

Q: Three words to define Au197Sm?

Luxury & Street, Nano-tech & Couture

Questions to Stefano Maccagnani, CEO

Q: You are an ecletic entrepreneur working on several projects, spanning from informatic, finance, and biomedical. Why did you choose to enter in the fashion industry?

I’ve always been interested in what is new and fashion is all about newness. The choice to join this industry came natural. The highest ambition I have for my activities is overcoming the boundaries to develop new technologies that can enhance the life of the human being. Every technology can be useful for several industries and the entire potential of every innovation should be investigated and employed according to any possible perspective. With this in mind, I though that the realm of beauty as well was worth of research and innovation.

fashion is all about newness

Q: Au197Sm fashion approach can be defined eco-sustainable? How?

Yes, it is. Au197Sm only employes material that can be recylcled and re-used, with the purpose to preserve the enviroment from fashion-wastes, which to date account for an important part of the ecology-issue. Since the launch of our label we have always prioritized, in the development of our collections, the focus on the eco-sustainability of the manufacturing process.

Q: We all know made-in-Italy for its craftsmanship heritage: however, Au197Sm is an Italian brand projected into the future through innovation and technology. Has a new made-in-Italy been born?

Yes, I believe so. Au197Sm is an international brand whose roots deeply lie in Italy: indeed, while the creative-office is based in Milan our hyper-tech production laboratory is based in Rome. At the same time, our team is international and we do not hesitate to collaborate with hubs of excellence dislocated worldwide. For example, our finest embroideries come from a special hub based in New Delhi (India). The result is defintely a new and more contemporary definition of “made-in-Italy”.
