Style

Mirabilia is a collection that was born from a strong connection to the Sicilian landscape and becomes its extremely striking sartorial and iconographic translation: the allure is strong and gritty, the mash-up of nature and art creates an evocative passion ready to be worn. Expression of a sensual and radiant femininity, determined and independent, with a strong and recognizable character, the line amplifies a new idea of elegance.

Fabrics

The natural elements are transfigured by a combination of reflections and references that centres around precious textures, from richly embellished fabrics to others characterized by an only seemingly simple appearance. The collection goes from glove leather paired with cotton gabardine and cotton and silk mikado; to viscose and silk crepe with lightweight chiffons; and 3D and printed lace, and tulle that is also printed and silk fil coupé.

Colours

The colours of nature inspire the colour palette of the collection: above all else, the gold of wheat stalks that, like a mantra, becomes embroidery on the outerwear and joins whites and blacks; the neutral shades of green and beige, which amplify the colours of the fields and the earth. And the poppy red of the all-over prints that bloom freely on dresses, shirts and trenches.

Lightweight dresses in silk printed with floral motifs, garnished with ruffles and smocking, mix with carefully embellished leather jackets, Sahara jackets with defined waists and oversized coats with details typical of bikers.

Fashion designer Marie Linker is pleased to announce that her evening and women’s ready to wear brand, L’Elegante, will present its first international collection on the runway in Paris during fashion week in collaboration with Oxford Fashion Studio.

The Sydney-based line will be showing their latest creations of gowns and luxurious formal wear, the Elegance collection inspired by pure romance and love. The collection will include hand-designed, dyed, and embroidered fabrics with Swarovski crystal embellishments and French lace. Bright, happy colors reflect intentions like red for passion and crystal for glamour and femininity.

Beautiful clothes were always an important part of Marie Linker’s life. From a young age as a child growing up in middle class Romania, Marie Linker may not have always had food, but her dressmaker mother and aunt made sure she was clothed in handmade garments. This grew into a fascination for the fashion industry and several paper dress designs.

By age 21, Marie Linker opened her first boutique in Sydney Double Bay. Her success at such a young age drove Marie Linker to pursue a lifelong career in the fashion industry. Before eventually launching her own line, Marie Linker worked as a buyer serving as Australia’s exclusive distributor of many top labels like Dolce and Gabanna and Valentino. Her travels to Paris, Milan, London, and New York have inspired her work as a designer and led Marie Linker to develop a skill for choosing luxurious materials and embellishments.

“I don’t consider myself working; I just enjoy what I love. I love my creative side and sharing it on one to one with my clients. It is very inspirational and very satisfying to me.” says Marie Linker.

Special Occasion wear has become the basis of L’Elegante, specializing in Mother of the Bride & Groom, red carpet, and pageant gowns. It has become her goal to make everyone woman feel the glamour of Old Hollywood while wearing her designs.

Oh what fun! GCDS, aka ‘God Can’t Destroy Streetwear’ invited us to Futuro Beach. It’s a wake-up call to all fashionistas who don’t yet care about sustainability, and will find themselves looking back in awe of the quality of today’s clothes.

When I received the invite, I knew this show would be something else. A small paper box, not unlike an aspirin container you reach for everytime you’re hungover. Inside, 5 small pipettes containing some transparent, inexplicable liquid.

Two brothers, Giordano and Giuliano, the latter being the Creative Director of the streetwear brand founded in 2015, chose the Mall Firenze on September 21st as their SS19 showcase scene. The crowd, dressed up and accessorized with GCDS wear, was flocking to the venue like moths to a flame. Having no priority lane for celebs, Chiara Ferragni had to wait in her pink/red glitter outfit and high heels right in front of mere plebs like me. Following her from entrance to front row, we passed color bursting vending machines and neon signage until we reached the green plastic garbage bag wrapped stage.

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to GCDS Futuro Beach spring/summer 19,” the Tokyo-based Insta-icon Naomi Watanabe sent greetings from a giant pixelated screen and also from across us in the front row.

The show kicked off with military looks in three different colours, worn by Chantelle Winnie and others, buckled up with bump bags and accessorized with G-C-D-S earrings. Silver jackets, matching with oriental, reflective coins on skirts, jackets and neck bags followed until pink neon hipsters with white fringe boots, orange rainwear and camouflage, pimped with pink glitter flowers also appeared.

For this collection GCDS collaborated with not only Onitsuka Tiger, one of the oldest shoe companies in Japan, but also with Pokemon, which gave the line a cartoonish touch. Crazy ponytails and oversized eyewear caught our attention until triple-breasted models, looking straight out of Blade Runner, popped up on the catwalk – supposed to give a look into what human bodies could look like in the future.

“A mixture of iconic pieces that might last till the end of time or maybe not” (according to the brothers) were not only fun to watch, but also sent a message about the current quality of fashion, and the value of Made in Italy, which hopefully will last forever.

This season, Oxford Fashion Studio will return to the InterContinental Paris – Le Grand on October 1, 2018 to present Spring/Summer 2019 collections from 18 independent fashion designers from all over the globe.

Oxford Fashion Studio serves as a platform to guide brands to the next level with their runway show concept. Four shows will run throughout the afternoon in the gorgeous ballroom, and between shows industry members are encouraged to sip on complimentary bubbly and mingle.

“Stranded” is a collection that holds the task of bringing history to the runway. This collection draws from images of the many atrocities committed against Puerto Rico by the effects of the dominant grip and the colonial rule of the United States, with the purpose of giving a voice, in any way possible, to the victims of this abuses and exposing the feelings of a segment of the population that sees the land of “liberty” as one that preys on the liberties of others. Key images of selected events were digitally manipulated to create patterns that seem beautiful to the naked eye, but that through a set of 3D glasses will show the atrocities underlying such beauty. Creating an analogy between the image of a beautiful paradise island and the suffering of its people, inviting the viewer to “change the lens through which they see the world” by looking deeper into the perspective of “the others”.

Afa’s main aim is to provide a collection that has a variety of vintage pieces that have been manipulated into something modern. The idea of forgotten beauty is something played on in each collection. The theme of this collection, RETRO TETRIS, was greatly inspired by retro games, specifically everyone’s childhood favorite, Tetris. The tile-matching puzzle game teaches us to be daring and adventurous and helped create the unique geometrical patterns for this collection. Fresh Off the Rail is Back

Fresh Off The Rail will host its third season for streetwear fashion week in downtown Houston from October 3rd-7th, 2018.

Fresh Off The Rail Fashion Week is a 5-day streetwear-streetstyle fashion week celebrating the convergence of culture, creativity and innovation in the heart of downtown Houston. Designers, art creators, bloggers and fashion influencers will share their vision to the fashion world.

Fresh Off The Rail Fashion Week takes place at Houston venues located near the METRORail lines from the East-end thru Midtown area. This season’s shows will be at ARKA Art Gallery right off of Main Street and Wentworth.

FOTR has partnered with Fashion Week Online, the world’s largest platform for fashion content. Sienna List Magazine is the official publication for all events. We’ve also teamed up with METRO, whose rail lines are in close proximity to the event venues and SP+ Parking to help guests get to and from the shows seamlessly.

The streetwear-streetstyle fashion week has attracted established brands and emerging creators both international and domestic. Fashion Week Mexico Coming to NYFW: The Shows in February

New York Fashion Week closed out on a high note for the Latino and international community, with the announce-ment of Fashion Week Mexico launching MEXICANOS IN NEW YORK, “MX_NY” at New York Fashion Week this upcoming February, at IMG’s NYFW: The Shows.

The official announcement was made during a private party at ATLA, one of Manhattan’s buzziest Mexican restaurants, for the fashion set with editors from Elle, Shape, Buzzfeed, and Cosmopolitan in attendance.

Guests such as Alfonso Sumano, Director of Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico in NY and Carlos Gerardo Izzo, Consul of Public Affairs at the General Consulate of Mexico in New York and the Mexican designer Claudio Limón, enjoyed signature cocktails made with Don Julio Tequila, created by Fatima de León, and nibbles from famed chef Enrique Olvera’s NoHo eatery.

All of them signal that the American market and New York Fashion Week are ready for Mexican design talent to emerge.

The group show at February’s NYFW will feature popular Mexican design houses of AnuarLayon, Lorena Saravia, and Yakampot.

COLOüRS, the company that produces Fashion Week Mexico and has cultivated and curated Mexican design talent for the past twelve years, is spearheading this project to familiarize the US market with, and promote, Mexican fashion. Labels are the first to jump on board with this initiative. Sponsored by Visit Mexico, the event introduced attendees to some of the rich talent of America’s Southern neighbor and demonstrated to the American fashion community that Mexico is poised to have a significant role in the marketplace.

COLOüRS has cultivated and curated Mexican design talent for the past twelve years

The timing of this project is fitting, with Mexicans making up over ten percent of the US population and retailers struggling to find ways to appeal to consumers by connecting with them through experiential activations that make more personal and emotional connections.

Cory Crespo, President of COLOüRS, is the mind behind this push for market share of Mexican designers. “The goal of the project is to transform the mindset, and push for the development of strong brands that can match the creativity of their artistic proposals with viable commercial offerings,” says Crespo.

Q: What made you decide that this is the right moment to launch Fashion Week Mexico at New York Fashion Week?

I’ve been running Mexico Fashion Week for the past 12 years, and this is a great moment to present Fashion Week Mexico because Mexican fashion designers are ready, and I’m ready.

We are prepared on the creative side, and we are prepared on the business side — we are prepared to sell and to represent Mexico to the world. Something amazing is happening in the creative industries of Mexico. So it’s time for Mexican fashion, and it’s time for Mexican designers.

Our idea is to present a block of three designers in February. We would like to start the journey today, start to prepare for the presentation in February at New York Fashion Week, and just start making business here. Mexicans are also actively involved in the world. We wish to emphasize the Mexican talents that have already been seen worldwide, and show that we are ready to grow even more — all these designers have been in the industry for more than ten years, and we are ready to make a move.

Q: What are the brands you’re bringing to New York City? Who’s the target audience for each of the three brands you’re bringing here?

We are first introducing Anuar Layon, Lorena Saravia, and Yakampot. We have a good mix of designers here: these brands are very different from one another, so we’re going to be able to get to different targets and cover different types of consumers.

Fashion Week Mexico has 50 designers presenting every season, and out of these 50 designers, Anuar Layon, Lorena Saravia, and Yakampot are the ones that are more ready to be presented worldwide in terms of their maturity in creativity and business.

Q: Have you personally attended the New York Fashion Week? And How is it different from Fashion Week Mexico?

One thing I like about New York Fashion Week is that the entire city is involved, and if you are in the city, you are part of New York Fashion Week.

Another thing I admire about New York Fashion Week is the promotion and media coverage for it — it’s like a week of content explosion. And New York Fashion Week is very business oriented: it’s like a working week, not a social week. Fashion Week Mexico is more of a social event … as Mexicans, we like to celebrate. [Laughs.]

Q: Why did you choose New York city to be your first stop? What’s the next stop after New York City?

We wanted to start with the best. We want to start in the major leagues. And if it works in here, it works everywhere.

There is also a huge Mexican community here which could be very helpful for our growth. I think Europe would be the next market. There have already been a lot of Mexican designers in Europe, like in Paris and Berlin. But first, we need to be here, and we need to learn.

We’re willing to learn. We’re willing to follow the rules and to enjoy the journey.

Take me on a safari, but only if you do it in Cividini! Inspired by Karen Blixen’s movie, Out of Africa, Piero and his wife Miriam Cividini created a light, pattern-mixed, but perfectly matched collection that invites souls to travel and to defy the heat in style.

At their Milan Fashion Week show, we saw a mix between le bon ton and military, aligned with the clean and modern footprint of the leading Italian label, founded in 1988.

Instead of thick knitwear, woven garments and cashmere, we saw lightweight fabrics in black and white, earthy tones, light pink, and surprising camouflage.

Whoever grabs a single pattern after today’s event is deemed to be boring. We want dotted turtlenecks under black and white, bluntly-checkered blouses, combined with reversed white-on-black plaid skirts. Leggings designed with large polka dots will cover our legs, swathed by gladiator sandals with snake print.

These perfect traveler’s outfits were composed of camel colors with white-leg trousers and casual blazers, finished off with a tightly knotted scarf. As the show progressed, we were treated to transparent light pink shirts and dresses. Blue elements in menswear and silky camouflage trench coats brought freshness to the collection like water to a drought.

This elegant collection is intended to be both exotic and metropolitan and indeed, with today’s 85 degrees in the center of Milan, I would have cherished one of Civini’s light layered looks.

White, elegant and delightful – Les Copains celebrated its 60 year anniversary with a collection, which reminded us of a cocktail party on a warm summer evening in the Toscane. White, gold and beige outfits appeared on the catwalk after Michele Bravi’s opened the show, performing his song “Il diario degli errori”.

Les Copains, known for its elegant, high quality, Italian made products, celebrated 60 years of the brand, a milestone, which will be remembered in form of a stunning SS19 collection. The label, founded in the 60s by Cavalier Mario bandiera, drew our attention to chiffon dresses, gold-metallic jumpers and details as bands, plaits and suede fringes.

White and beige prevailed last night’s collection, gold gleam and metallic effects made it shine. We loved the light, white blouses under sparkling, sleeveless hoodies, worn over suede bermudas in grey, and finished up with flat shoes with embroidered crest. Knowing Bandiera, he put a lot of effort in the details and gave special care to the material and the texture of the items. He remained true to the brand’s philosophy and created a simple, but elegant collection without being excessive. The “Mini pull”, which became the symbol of the Italian fashion house in the 60’s,arrived with metallic stripes, while the recognizable knitwear was also present. A white, long off-shoulder-dress with suede seam and puffy sleeves made white underwear shine through.The mermaid train gave an elegant twist to the casual knitted dress, which could also be worn casually after a day at the beach.

At the end of the show the Palazzo Reale shrouded in red light, shining on the models standing on the stage. Guests were invited to take a closer look with a strong confidence about quality and the garment’s excellence.

Timeless black and white is revisited with lilac and citrus accents, notes of colour that bring sophistication within a strong geometric frame. Black and white fringes and leather suits break the linearity of the silhouettes, giving a bold twist and a contemporary attitude. Fierce magenta is the heart from which hyper-glamorous sequins and abstract striped and micro-spotted dresses are born and which pay a tribute to a hyper-iconic style in which elegance meets new-tribal. Black brings this dynamic and visually-striking universe towards an elegant and sophisticated allure.

Vintage scarves prints are reinterpreted giving life to dynamic dresses in which patchwork creates different sections of colour and influences that reshape fluid and soft lines. Stamina orange-total looks contrast with saddle-stitched mixed linen fabrics in which a soft reference to country style is mixed with the strength of bold colours.

Haute-tech compact jersey and embroidered denim meet three-dimensional textures and backgrounds imbued with yellow and orange that create a mix between over-sized shapes and pleated suits where stands the continuous research of fine materials that have always characterised Beatrice b.

New York Denim Days Paints the Town Blue for Second Annual Festival

The second annual New York Denim Days took place Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23 at Metropolitan Pavilion and featured some of the top brands in denim, new designers, vintage good and musical performances by Nikki Lane and Friends.

Title Sponsor TENCELTM branded fibers by Lenzing was on site with interactive displays and shop-in-shops stocked with a selection of garments using its fiber from top brands, including 3X1, Mavi, Reformation, Godfather of Denim and more.

New York Denim Days Festival Highlights

+Denim Days Kick-Off
American Airlines and New York Denim Days welcomed more than 400 festival exhibitors and guests on Friday, Sept. 22 to kick-off the second annual festival. The event at Opry City Stage featured musical performances by headliner Nikki Lane, along with Edan Archer, Hugh Masterson and Daddy Long Legs. Specialty cocktails were provided by Stolen Spirits.

+Denim Speaker Series
Denim Days welcomed a selection of speakers including designers, makers and innovators for a Denim Talks speaker series featuring Q&As, panels and lectures. The speaker sessions included “The Evolution of Denim + A Peek at the Future” with Jordan Nodarse of Reformation, Adriano Goldschmied of Genius group, Scott Morrison of 3×1 and Tricia Care of Tencel; as well as an influencer panel with Lamont Howard, Kim Geronimo, Alexandra Machover, Sarah Funk and Bryan Griffin.

Denim Days featured on-site book signings and a chance to meet-and-greet with denim authors including Amy Leverton (Denim Dudes, Denim: Street Style, Vintage, Obsession), Andrew Luecke (COOL: Style, Sound and Subversion), Peter Van Rhoon (Book of Denim Vol. 2), Doug Gunn and Roy Lucket (Worn x Kingpins, The Vintage Showroom: An Archive of Menswear) and Nick Williams (Denim Branded: Jeanswear’s Evolving Design Details).

+Atelier & Repairs Design Competition
Cult-favorite brand Atelier & Repairs is an initiative to eliminate the world’s excess, one stitch at a time. They have a mission to not create anything new, but instead transform what already exists. At the 2018 Denim Days, Atelier & Repairs challenged students of New York City’s Fashion High School to transform a $5 T-shirt into a garment of their own design. The winners were two young women from the high school, who received a mentorship by Atelier & Repairs creator Maurizo Donaldi.

+HUDSON presents GET LIT
GET LIT is an award-winning youth poetry organization including the most watched poets on the internet. The inspiring performance entitled “United Voices of Peace, a celebration of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace” was sponsored by HUDSON and featured students of the GET LIT program.

+Madewell
Popular women’s fashion brand Madewell represented a “Blue Jeans Go Green” initiative, where guests were invited to recycle old pairs of denim in exchange for $20 toward a new pair.

+Michael Strahan Brand Launch
Former NFL defensive end Michael Strahan continues his foray into the fashion industry with a new collection of denim, which celebrated its launch at New York Denim Days. The collection was inspired by the direction of casual fashion in the industry, and the line features quality products at an affordable price.

+Nikki Lane and Friends
Musician and vintage purveyor Nikki Lane took to the stage on Sunday, Sept. 23 for an exclusive show for Denim Days attendees. Along with her own performance, Nikki curated a day of music to close out the second annual New York Denim Days, including Hugh Masterson and Eden Archer. Throughout the festival, Nikki could be found at a booth representing her Nashville vintage shop, High Class Hillbilly.
