Slowear x MINI Celebrate “The Modern Gentleman’s Style Guide”

Represented by Purple PR.

Style guides for men come and go, but few are created with a focus on timelessness, and with the expertise of two heritage icons such as Slowear and MINI. Slowear, of course, is the Italian company born in 1951 focusing on sustainability in the form of artisan-created “durable fashion.” Mini, born a heartbeat later, in 1957, shares the similar philosophy of timeless heritage. The latest result? The Modern Gentleman’s Style Guide.

In close collaboration, Slowear and MINI developed the Modern Gentleman’s Style Guide that tells the story of how wardrobe choices can reflect on a man’s ability to inject subtle hints about who he is, in what he wears.

how wardrobe choices can inject subtle hints about who he is

Furthermore, it gives suggestions on how to optimally embody the smart casual dress and behavioral code based on expert knowledge.

On a recent fall night in SoHo, Slowear and Mini invited a targeted audience of influencers, socials, car enthusiasts and global tastemakers to celebrate the launch of the book. The evening took place at the Slowear store on Prince Street in New York, where guests across all platforms of fashion, art, and lifestyle celebrated with specialty Italian cocktails and bites provided by Cipriani.

The Modern Gentleman’s Style Guide is further illustrated by various photo sections, co-featuring the MINI Clubman.

Simply put, “the man who drives a MINI Cooper wears Slowear.”

Guest in attendance included Alex Assouline, Bryan Griffin, David Vivirido, Ian Michael Crumm, Isaac Likes, Joey Zauzig, Marina Testino, Michael Klug, Young Paris, FWO’s own Pablo Starr, and many more.

Fall in Love with Autumn: The Best Fall Fragrances

0

The Best Fall Fragrances

My favorite season, without a doubt, is fall. Breaking out my turtleneck sweaters, thick knit blankets and fur pillows is my favorite thing to do beginning mid-September. The number one way that I can say goodbye to summer is lighting a few autumn candles, and switching out my fruity perfume for a warm, wooly one.

To celebrate the official beginning of fall I am going to break down our absolute favorite scents for you and your home. These scents offer something for everyone, except the person who likes a cheap, synthetic-smelling fragrance. Trust me when I say that these are some of the best selling fragrances to cozy up in while temps drop and you want to be transported to a distant memory like an early morning walk through the forest as leaves fall around you.

these are the best scents to cozy up in while temps drop

Switch out your floral, fruity perfume for one of these warm and cozy scents. Commodity creates simple, elegant and easily identifiable fragrances; we love Wool that has Haitian Vetiver that is sustainably sourced and provides a deep earthy aroma with smoky undertones. This scent also has notes of Amber and Bourbon Vanilla to give you the feeling of warmth wrapped in a cozy wool or cashmere sweater on a cold fall night by the fire.

Another nostalgic scent is ABL’s Composition. This scent is a nod to anticipation after summer ends and school has begun. This scent smells of flint graphite, green apple and wool to bring you right back to the chilly fall days sitting on the football stands cheering on your high school team.

I recently discovered by Rosie Jane, and I now switch in and out every single one of their fragrances. James is my favorite scent to wear everyday during the fall, because while it smells spice and earthy but with hints of fig and gardenia it is so light and fresh. This line is one that I consistently suggest to friends and family, so trust me when I say it is worth it to pick up a bottle of this. You will fall in love!

Empress of Fashion by Diana Vreeland embodies who she was, as she literally was called the Empress of Fashion. Vreeland was one of the most groundbreaking editors Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar have ever housed. This fragrance embodies her powerful presence with blackcurrant, pink pepper and a soft Saffron. The Turkish Rose hints mixed with the warm spice and woody notes make this a well rounded fragrance that gives you the confidence of Vreeland, in a warm embrace.

Juliette Has a Gun’s Not a Perfume is locked and loaded. This fragrance is made of one base note, Cetalox. This gives the minimal and fresh scent of warm woods and earthy vanillas. This perfume has tons of reviews saying that even for people who have an intolerance to fragrances (get headaches or get sick at the smell of perfume) can wear this without being bothered.

The 7 Virtues is a fair trade, organic and sustainable fragrance company. The Rose Amber Eau de Parfum uses a rare rose essential oil that evokes feelings of warm love in the fall with notes of amber, vanilla and bergamot. This is the perfect scent for a serial floral lover wanting to transition from a spring or summer floral to a warmer, earthier rose parfum.

Dasein’s Autumn Unisex Fragrance is truly fitting for both males and females, I tested this on my boyfriend much to his protest. We both wore it on the same day, and were equally complimented on this fragrance! It is dark and comforting, and is nostalgic of a warm cup of coffee on a fall day where you take an extra few minutes wrapped in your cashmere blanket before entering the cold. The Angarwood is a southeast Asian tree producing a sweet yet woody smell note called ‘oud.’ There is also essential oil from coffee bean oil and cinnamon bark essential oil giving it the rich spice you will be intoxicated by all day long.

Now we come to everyone’s favorite part, scents for the home. Boy Smells is one brand that I literally always keep burning at my desk or someplace in my apartment. Stalker is named after the stalk of celery, not the creepy stalker scent you definitely do not want burning in your apartment. This coconut and beeswax candle smells botanical, earthy and warm with notes of purple carrots, cumin and patchouli. Stalker smells like the inside of a Farmer’s Market in the fall.

Ethics Supply Company has an amazing Libations line, and we are loving the Bathtub Gin scent. This candle burns a clean, woody meets crisp apple scent that is intoxicating on my bar cart. It is a clean, non-synthetic burn with all natural coconut and beeswax blend.

A great transitional scent to burn from Summer to fall is sandalwood. Cander’s Rue Vertbois is a go to candle with notes of sandalwood, orange blossom and smoke. The base of sandalwood is the perfect playing field for orange blossom to marry smoky flavors. This candle is an absolute go to when entertaining friends or family.

For the ultimate luxury candle look no further than L’Object’s Cubisme candle. This hand painted candle is way more than just your average candle. The canister is painted with black and white matte glaze and a hint of gold, perfect for keeping on your coffee table all season long. The alluring green vetiver takes the lead with notes of moss and citrus for a clean and warm burn.

All of the Southern Elegance candles are made in and inspired by North Carolina. Our favorite scent is Tobacco and Vanilla; a blend of tobacco, vanilla and spice. For those out there who live and breathe pumpkin spice (sorry, we aren’t fans) this is a nice subtly sweet alternative. Inspired by the old tobacco factories in Durham, NC this candle is a home-run.

My favorite alternative to candles is an essential oil diffuser, I am the worst about leaving tons of candles burning and walking into another room. The chic diffusers from dōTerra are pretty enough to leave out on a shelf all season long, while still filling an entire room with a light fragrance. For great fall oils look for clove, a woody scent that energizes you at the same time. Cinnamon Bark is a food grade oil with a spicy fragrance that can double as a cleaning spray mixed with water! This brand is one of my favorites when it comes to essential oils because of the natural smells and ingredients.

When you burn Hinoki Noir you are engulfed by cashmere woods, redwood bark, cardamom, sandalwood and cardamom. Nature is calling with this fragrance, and we are here for it 100%. This candle gives a calming, peaceful and woodsy fragrance to your home and you’ll want to burn this natural wax candle over and over again.

Dining in London: Marksman Public House

0

Right on the Mark in East London

Upon walking into this East London pub, you would think you were walking into any corner pub in the city. The dining room is located upstairs from the refurbished Victorian pub and just the vibe and look of the room is a gem in itself.

Though still candle lit and cozy like the bar downstairs, the dining room is modern and hints at the Scandinavian minimalism approach with few tables and much open space. I quite liked the fully designed kitchen in the corner for servers to use to refill water and such, rather than the usual pushed-in-a-corner stand that you normally see.

Marksman

[portfolio_slideshow id=69209 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

The crowd is young and of the area, mainly couples on a date. I would recommend Marksman Public House as a date spot. It’s also nice not having to share a server with many tables; since there are about ten tables or less, each server is very attentive. However, there is a very sexy room for a big group dinner right off the kitchen that can be rented out. Very fun to bring guests down right through the chefs running back and forth to their meal!

The food served at the Marksman is is inherently British, but not your run-of-the-mill pub food. The two chefs, who have cooked at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, and St. John, know exactly what they are doing, and are able to serve exactly what they want, how they want to.

It’s no accident that the Marksman became the first Public House in all of London to be awarded the Michelin Pub of the Year.

the Marksman was the first Public House in London to be awarded the Michelin Pub of the Year

The courgette dish with sunflower seeds is fantastic. We also recommend trying the cuttlefish and Sunday Roast. We were tasked with finishing off our meal with what the Marksman is known for, the Honey Tart dessert. It certainly was a huge hit and I feel a craving for another slice coming on as I write about it. Wine and cocktail suggestions from the server were great additions to the meal as well; I would suggest listening to them.

[portfolio_slideshow id=69210 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

Our meal here was one that will be remembered for a long time to come, not only for the great food and interesting location to visit, but also for the hospitality from the staff. A+!

ERR;OR Launches Spring/Summer 2019 Capsule Collection

0

detected by ERR;OR

On Saturday, October 20, PUL SHEEN launched his Spring/Summer 2019 Capsule Collection “detected by ERR;OR” at ABXY Gallery in New York City, with a special presentation, performance and after party.

ERR;OR’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection introduced its pure essence in an all-black color scheme, paying no attention to trends. Shifting from an over-fit military and tech wear concept to integrate color, modern materials and streamlined silhouettes, the Spring/Summer 2019 capsule collection is symbolic of an alien trend invasion on anti-fashion earthling, ERR;OR.

Jointly designed by PUL SHEEN and graphic artist MURYANGDION, pieces are highly emotional, touching on themes of fear, delusion, brainwashing, surveillance, destruction, scars, and universality.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION + AFTER PARTY

[portfolio_slideshow id=69173 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

(Photos: Michelle Hyebin Yang)

The “detected by ERR;OR” capsule presentation exhibited a thrilling model performance with fine art elements and ERR;OR’s first full ready-to-wear collection “ERR;OR; ain’t no mistake” to mark a dynamic brand beginning.

Artist Jason Lee transformed the space with a towering statue filled with white ink, splattered upon destruction with an electric saw onto guests, modeled in logo-printed jumpsuits and gigantic face masks.

The ERR;OR X BASED_ after party immediately began with the end of the performance.

“MOTHER AND SON” was the centerpiece of the capsule collection presentation, a statue created by artist Jason Lee to portray his idea of the Supreme Court. A rabbit masked Jesus and sheep masked Mother Mary were struck with 12 gigantic arrows, symbolizing the 12 Apostles.

Using an electric saw to destruct the statue meant to destroy all authoritative power pressing down on the creative freedom of our modern world, a kind of confidence that ERR;OR and its fans endow.

Splattering of the internal white ink upon slaughtering seemed to illustrate a kind of independence we all seek – and established a striking performance that was only possible in New York City.

ABOUT BASED_

ABOUT ERR;OR

ERR;OR was created by designer PUL SHEEN as a way for menswear to bridge communities and challenge the status quo. ERR;OR puts the “erroneous” up front, to change the conversation and become the norm. “Some errors presumed wrong in our world are mere differences that must be acknowledged,” PUL SHEEN explains, “We weren’t made by mistake – there was only an error.” The capsule collection is an accessible, graphic translation of its usual over-fit silhouette with military and tech wear functionality, packaged in a one-size-fits-all. As an unbiased design space, ERR;OR pledges to create an inclusive brand culture that empowers and celebrates people and their unique differences.

ABOUT PUL SHEEN

PUL SHEEN conceived ERR;OR on the idea that he is an “error.” At the age of 14, PUL SHEEN roamed the streets of Seoul’s Dongdaemun fashion district, quenching his thirst for clothing, quickly turning passion into business. For a decade, he contributed to fashion retail, production and design, absorbing the stories of local salesman over late night drinks, living them as his own. Despite his unconventional ways, PUL SHEEN believed that his non-confrontational, rebellious spirit could influence others to do the same. With ERR;OR, he plans to collaborate with others to create a positive change in the industry. PUL SHEEN graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2017.

Sci-Fi Chic: MASHAMA Spring Summer 2019

0

MASHAMA Spring Summer 2019

MASHAMA, known for her futuristic feminine aesthetic, wanted to reflect on the continued repression of women’s voices in China. Not a day too soon, considering today’s omnipresent #metoo-movement in other parts of the world. Not a trivial topic either, but Ma managed to produce a strong and confident collection that resonates with everything she has to say about it.

A continuous search for one’s true self is at the core of this collection. Ma saw that same pursuit in the movie Annihilation, where its protagonist Lena is on an expedition and learns more about herself along the way. By also referencing to the movie’s surroundings, the designer exchanged her regular urban club-scene inspiration for tropical nature. Ma drew parallels between Lena’s mutating environment, a.k.a. ‘The Shimmer’, and modern China as well. According to Ma, everything that enters China, doesn’t stay the same.

Ma Shama Spring Summer 2019

[portfolio_slideshow id=69122 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

Enfin. Seems a lot of territory to cover in one collection. However, Ma succeeded in developing a clear language through her designs. Tailored safari jackets and zipped-cargo pants in military and khaki hues, combined with emerald green knee-length socks in heels. Shimmering sequined bomber-jackets and acid yellow waterproof raincoats, all to protect the female body from outer danger and in order to survive. Protective, but not restrictive.

Again, Ma harvested instant attention for her sci-fi chic signature by incorporating scarfed dresses and shiny satins. Highlight was a mutated black dress into off-shoulder white shirtsleeves, showing a little laced under piece at the model’s bare shoulder. Nothing sweet or fragile about this look, thanks to its strong cuts, chunky white earrings and shimmering zippers. Another stunner was the black satin dress combined with a black blazer, layered with a caped dark blue bomber-jacket and coloured fringed hat. Sounds wild, but it worked together seamlessly and created a modern silhouette regardless of their differing shapes.

The designer’s desire was to nurture the strong identity of women by ‘creating a collection that acts as a soft armour, both protecting and elevating the wearer’, as the official statement reads. And it sure did.

Leonard Paris Spring Summer 2019 Collection

0

Leonard Paris Spring Summer 2019 Collection

Artistic director Christine Phung took her crowd to East-Africa this season in order to explore the notion of endless French elegance, nom de plume for the Leonard woman.

“Every collection is a bit like a journey”, Phung explained backstage. When wandering through the House’s archives, she became fascinated with this hand-painted landscape print that was never used before. “I found this print, and it became the source for the entire collection.” Phung’s exploration took her voyage to the Masaai tribes of Kenya and Tanzania.

Leonard Paris SS19

[portfolio_slideshow id=69063 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

Accordingly, the collection kicked-off with a loose-fitted collared jumpsuit that served as the canvas for the same landscape pattern. Phung’s favourite piece, as she told us after the show. She wanted a relaxed look for the travelling woman who’s both serious and free, and wears colour gracefully. Plus, of course, to honour the Leonard trademarked orchid as well, an inescapable emblem that the designer is, in her words, ‘obliged’ to absorb in every collection.

Along these lines, the tailored but baggy (thus comfortable looking) safari-themed pieces came first: beige coloured jackets, pleated shorts and white shirts for the more pragmatic, yet chic adventurer. Followed by increasingly floaty silhouettes with knotted, wrapped and interlaced dresses, skirts and backless pantsuits in bright flowerly print. Elegant indeed.

The distinctive blue and red colours of the Masaai costume superseded the floral runway alongside the traditional flamboyant beaded earrings and necklaces, a series that has been produced by Phung in collaboration with Masaai artisans.

Always slightly culturally sensitive, such cultural appropriations, especially in a time where the smallest flicker of controversy can burst into a media frenzy, and certainly seen France’s problematic colonial past. Even more seemingly problematic for Phung, was to make room to celebrate House’s sixtieth anniversary (as one might tend to forget whilst watching the collection pass-by). And it showed: the show was abruptly closed by seven throwback silhouettes, prints and heritage shapes from Leonard’s past, which resulted in a bit disjointed journey.

Even though the pieces didn’t necessarily revise the notion of French elegance, Phung nevertheless has managed to make a safe Masaai interpretation of the Leonard woman to keep pleasing the House’s fans.

The Science of Being Beautiful: Dr. Rahma Targett And Her Keen Eye for Aesthetics

0

This is an advertorial product for select businesses.

Loving Your Skin and Self

Fashion Week might be over, but the biggest fashion show on earth is now starting to make a buzz, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. When it comes to Victoria’s Secret Angels, aside from being fit and charming, the “Angel’s glow” has become their trademark. So, what does it take to have a healthy glow like the Angels?

Australian cosmetic physician Dr. Rahma Targett of Advanced Cosmetic Medicine said, “Skin is the first line of our defence; its function is to protect our body from outside stimuli, and sadly, we often forget that our job is to keep it healthy. Taking care of our skin is not a one-stop-shop; it takes time and even just a little TLC from our busy lives.”

I agree one hundred per cent. We must treat skin care like our love for makeup and fashion trends; every season we anticipate the upcoming fashion trends. Is the hot pink lipstick in or out? Don’t we all want to be relevant and look gorgeous? I’d be lying if I said no.

The Instagram hype since October 2010 has made everyone want to be selfie-ready or picture-perfect with hashtags like #nofilterneeded, or captions like “I woke up like this.” That is why Dr. Targett advised that we truly have to understand the concept of confident beautiful.

In her practice, Dr. Targett assesses her client’s well-being before doing any aesthetic treatments. She believes that beauty must radiate from the inside; it is something we cannot put a mask on. After all, what is the essence of having a gorgeous face when the inside is gloomy and unloved by you?

beauty must radiate from the inside

I believe that’s the secret behind the Victoria’s Secret Angels enchanting and healthy glow — the contentment of being who they are supported by taking care of their physical beauty.

Luckily, South Australians have Advanced Cosmetic Medicine, the favorite go-to of South Australians: from high profile celebrities to local bloggers, from executives to metropolitan men, from too busy moms to teenagers, and even posh tourists!

Let’s get to know the woman behind the beautiful faces of South Australians, very well-known for her aesthetic and cosmetic skills, perfected by her keen eye and the artistic talents of a sculptor, and most importantly, her genuinely love of her clients.

Dr. Targett is a member of The Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia and The American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. Her cosmetic clinic, Advanced Cosmetic Medicine is located at 55/55 Melbourne Street, North Adelaide in South Australia.

Q: What inspired you to pursue cosmetic medicine?

I started my career as a Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the United Nations and also worked with different international humanitarian causes. My husband Chris and I were living in a nomadic lifestyle, but when our family was growing with our two kids, we decided to settle back in Australia, and I continued working with humanitarian causes.

I started my career as a Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the United Nations

What inspired me to pursue cosmetic medicine? I love the challenge, and I wanted to stimulate my artistic side and combine it with my right brain. Beauty enhancement without surgery is now widely accepted, and I’d like to remind everyone that you should go to medically regulated clinics, most especially with injectable treatments.

Q: It is undeniable your clients love you. What’s your favorite part of this business?

I like helping clients in a different level inside and out boosting their confidence. It feels good when my clients walk out of my office satisfied with their desired, but guided looks, and feeling happy and beautiful.

Q: What makes ACM brand successful?

We do a wide variety of treatments, and we give attention to details in planning and tailoring each treatment specific to the client’s needs.

Sometimes, I incorporate injectables and laser treatments together, but again, every client has different skin needs. They may or may not be a good candidate for injectables, so I take the time to get to know my clients and their perspectives.

Q: Any beauty regimen advice?

It’s good to start taking care of your skin early. Always use a good cleanser, moisturizer and a sunscreen.

Boontheshop x Bon Marché

Represented by OBCM.

BOONtheshop, Seoul’s most prestigious avant-garde boutique, is coming to Bon Marché, Paris’ oldest and most iconic department store. The new retail hotspot will be a destination founded on the principles of balance, purity, and holistic creation. With origins in the world of beauty and wellness – in fact ‘boon’ means ‘powder’ in Korean – BOONtheshop has nurtured a unique lifestyle perspective in Korea, as a sophisticated international tastemaker with a highly-edited point of view. Designed in 2014 by American architect Peter Marino, BOONtheShop’s Seoul flagship is a serene, minimalist shopping mecca.

As an intrinsic evolution of the BOONtheshop universe, the women’s ready-to-wear collection represents a truly international perspective on cool modern luxury.

Boontheshop x Bon Marché : New York FW19

[portfolio_slideshow id=69015 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

The BOONtheshop collection is the result of a collective approach to design, combining an innate awareness of an active woman’s urban needs with an unsurpassed sensibility for precious natural materials. Based in Paris, with specialty ateliers in Italy and Greece, the BOONtheshop studio has accumulated a wealth of industry experience from the ateliers of French luxury houses and independent, avant-garde labels, to evolve BOONtheshop’s own identity through a delicate fusion of Eastern principles and Western ‘savoir-faire’.

By reflecting on new expressions of luxury and femininity, BOONtheshop proposes a perennial wardrobe inspired by the cosmopolitan allure of a multitude of women: world travelers, city dwellers, art lovers, escapists and connoisseurs of beauty. Every season, the collection draws aesthetic synergies with the worlds of contemporary art, interior design, and minimalist architecture, imagining the modern woman who traverses these serene, man- made environments and the wild beauty of nature.

BOONtheshop proposes a perennial wardrobe inspired by the cosmopolitan allure of a multitude of women

With two seasonal collections per year, BOONtheshop’s warm vs. cool palette creates harmonious tonal combinations of refined textures, as leather and suede are combined with mink, cashmere, wool and silk. An absolute emphasis on natural materials sees the collection built upon opulent reversible outerwear, superfine knits, tailored separates, and ethically-sourced furs. Soft layering is essential, as the BOONtheshop wardrobe is designed to fit together seamlessly in a timeless dialogue from season to season.

The silhouette of a belted, robe-shaped coat has evolved into a BOONtheshop signature, with key shapes crafted in unexpected colors and a myriad of decadent fabrications, from shorthair ‘Lacaune’ shearling to Loro Piana Shetland cashmere, and combinations of artisanal ‘let-out’ intarsia mink with nappa leather. Cocooning coats and capes become ergonomic solutions for living, with split panels that unzip as vents, drape as a scarf. Hardware, like ‘jewels’, is minimal and functional, as invisible zips or metal snap studs allow pieces to be transformed at the wearer’s whim. Print and embellishment are kept to a minimum – at times accenting collections as a seasonal gesture – allowing sensual fabrics and exceptional craft to shine all their own.

lululemon partners with Royal Ballet for a Killer Collab

0

lululemon x Francesca Hayward

lululemon has been doing some amazing collaborations recently. Earlier this year they worked with Central Saint Martins students to design six Asian-inspired prints inspired by the “Art of Motion.”

The Canadian-based athletic brand is at it again with a stunning collection in partnership with the Royal Ballet in London’s principal dancer, Francesca Hayward. The limited edition 17-piece collection is highly technical and perfect for prima ballerinas to women having fun in a salsa or pilates class. The line includes cashmere, cooper, and double-knit merino wool fabrics to add a luxurious element to the capsule collection.

This collection took literally an entire year to come together. The designers came to London to make sure that they were designing a collection to enhance the ballerina’s abilities and movement rather than restrict it. The outcome is an alluring corset-like sports bra, low back leotard, merino double knit wool sweater (that I literally want to live in), and amazing gold lining tights.

This collection took literally an entire year to come together

A slightly new feature of the collection as the bold gold details. There are gold hints on waistbands and in the color palette used, as well as gold logos sewn onto some pieces. lululemon reps stated ”Pieces feature touches of gold that mirror the opulence of the Royal Opera House.” The gold was also a request of Francesca as she just loves gold!

I have to call out their Principal Dancer Corsetry Tights. I am an avid lululemon lover, I have pledged my allegiance to the addicting culture of wearing lululemon. So you can imagine the large number of leggings I have accumulated over time… And these pants are my favorite to date because of the fit. The corset like waist-band sucks you in without feeling restricted and give my flat butt some shape I didn’t know was possible.

these pants are my favorite to date because of the fit

Growing up as a ballerina I spent a lifetime in horrible ballet warm up clothes and poorly fitting leotards I couldn’t wait to get out of.

My only two questions now are, where was this collection 10 years ago, and can I buy the entire collection in every color?
