How Fashion Week Scheduling Works
The Big Four fashion weeks run twice a year in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. The February/March circuit showcases Fall/Winter collections; September/October presents Spring/Summer. Dedicated men’s fashion weeks run in January and June (Milan and Paris only — the British Fashion Council discontinued its standalone June edition, with London’s February and September shows now co-ed). Haute couture shows in Paris are held in January and July. Bridal and swimwear events have their own separate seasons.
Shows run approximately six months ahead of retail seasons so that buyers can place orders, manufacturers can produce collections, and media can prepare editorial content. The schedule follows a set sequence — New York opens, then London, Milan, and Paris — coordinated by each city’s fashion council: the CFDA (New York), the British Fashion Council (London), Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (Milan), and the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (Paris).
Can anyone attend Fashion Week?
Many shows remain invitation-only for industry professionals, but a growing number of events offer public access through ticketed options. Fashion Week Online® provides exclusive discount codes for shows across all major fashion capitals. See our guide to attending fashion week for details.
Which Fashion Week is the most important?
Each serves a different role: New York is the most commercially oriented with strong emerging talent; London is known for avant-garde creativity; Milan leads in luxury craftsmanship and heritage houses; Paris is the center of haute couture and the traditional anchor of the global calendar.
How are fashion week dates determined?
The fashion councils of each city coordinate to establish a sequential circuit that allows industry professionals to travel between capitals. Dates account for venue availability, local holidays, and international events. The sequence — New York, London, Milan, Paris — has been stable for decades, though individual dates shift year to year.
