Against the unmistakable backdrop of the New York City skyline, Flying Solo returned to 22 Vanderbilt Rooftop for its September New York Fashion Week presentation, bringing together independent designers from around the world in a six-part runway showcase defined by creative freedom, diverse perspectives, and an eclectic approach to contemporary fashion.
The day began beneath a veil of light rain, casting a cinematic mood across the Manhattan skyline. Rather than interrupting the catwalk, the weather became part of the New York experience, with guests watching beneath umbrellas as models confidently moved down the runway. By early afternoon, the clouds gave way to sunlight, illuminating the rooftop and renewing the new energy of the show.
Led by Creative Directors Alina Kotsiuba and Jaqueline Lunkes, the styling team orchestrated 620 outfits across six individual show times, representing designers from 34 countries. The presentation spanned womenswear, menswear, and childrenswear, offering a diverse look into independent fashion brands.
Across the runway, designers explored an expansive vocabulary of silhouettes, fabrics, textures, and embellishments. Dramatic proportions and sculptural shapes appeared alongside more understated tailoring and refined minimalism, while embroidery, fringe, lace, denim, and unexpected textural treatments added dimension to the collections.
The season’s visual language moved fluidly between contrasting influences.
