Care Bears™ Loves Richerette: a Colorful Celebration of 20 Years of Love at New York Fashion Week

0
The runway at New York Fashion Week burst into a dazzling display of color, joy, and creativity as Richerette unveiled its highly anticipated “Care Bears™ Loves Richerette” collection. This vibrant new line celebrated the enduring charm of the Care Bears while marking 20 years since designer Richie Rich first collaborated with the beloved characters under his iconic Heatherette brand. The show, brought to you by Gen Art and produced by La Faye & Powell, served as a tribute to that historic partnership, brought to life once again through Richie’s fresh and imaginative vision with Richerette. Care Bears™ (Photos: Michael Perdomo @thinkinternational / Tony Quesada) Held at DOM LOUNGE, a one-of-a-kind venue located at 287 Park Ave S, the event delivered an unforgettable experience where fun, culture, and vibrant nightlife came together. Guests included: rapper Ja Rule, Fern Mallis, designer Max Alexander, Kate Lanphear, and Nick Haramis. Richie Rich, the legendary Club Kid-turned-designer, once again redefined fashion with his latest collection under the Richerette brand. Known for his groundbreaking work with Heatherette, Richie brought his signature sense of fun and imagination to the runway. “The Care Bears are very real to me, and I was thrilled to see them dancing down the runway in their own unique way,” said Richie Rich. “Twenty years ago, we created magic with Heatherette and Care Bears, and now, with Richerette, I’m excited to reimagine that magic in a whole new way. The Care Bears are like Club Kids—running around the world spreading love and having fun!” The Care Bears brand, a beacon of goodwill and positivity for decades, served as the perfect inspiration for this nostalgic yet modern collection. Featuring their iconic belly badges, each representing a unique message of love and caring, the beloved characters were reimagined in fun printed tops and dresses constructed from actual plush Care Bears. The collection radiated joy and brought a delightful sense of nostalgia to the runway. The runway was a feast for the senses, with models dazzling in colorful ensembles paired with footwear from Ground Up’s Care Bears collection, featuring plush sneakers, cozy slippers, and playful slides that perfectly complemented the nostalgic designs. Adding a touch of bold glamour, designer Lidia Talavera provided vibrant, custom-made high heels in both women’s and men’s sizes. The hair team, led by Gary Baker for UNITE, crafted sleek, wet-styled looks for the daytime and playful, colorful wigs for the evening, adding a whimsical element to the show. Romana New York provided the makeup, featuring bold, bright eyeshadows and vivid colors that mirrored the iconic Care Bear rainbow, bringing each model’s look to life. Nails, by Bernadette Thompson, were adorned with custom designs reflecting each bear’s unique personality, adding yet another layer of creative brilliance to the show’s aesthetic. Following the show, the celebration continued at DOM LOUNGE with an exclusive afterparty featuring DJ Matt J Hall, reminiscent of the legendary Club Kid era. Richie Rich, Co-Creative Director Cicero Oca, and the entire team danced the night away as DJs spun an electric soundtrack. Guests enjoyed an open bar featuring Aupale Vodka, Davos Tequila, and Boxed Water Is Better while immersing themselves in the high-energy, fashion-meets-nightlife atmosphere that Richie Rich is known for. The event was presented in partnership with Gen Art, an organization that has championed emerging talent and groundbreaking creativity for 30 years. Under the visionary leadership of Artistic Director Marc Harvey, Gen Art has curated extraordinary events that redefine art, fashion, and culture. “Collaborating with Richie Rich and Care Bears for this show perfectly embodies Gen Art’s mission of pushing boundaries and celebrating fearless creativity,” said Harvey. “This event is a testament to the legacy of bold, innovative artistry that Gen Art has fostered for three decades.” Select pieces from the collection will go on sale February 20th, available online at www.richerette.net, allowing fans to own a piece of this iconic partnership. Additional events and merchandise from the “Care Bears™ Loves Richerette” collection are set to drop in April, with special activations planned for Pride Month in June. ##

The Child Hunger Project: A Bold Step Forward in the Fight Against Childhood Hunger

0
The Child Hunger Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger by providing nutritious meals, fostering hope, and creating opportunities for vulnerable children to thrive. Through innovative programs, partnerships, and community efforts, The Child Hunger Project is transforming lives and ensuring that no child goes to bed hungry. Born out of a deep, visceral anger and heartbreak at the sight of starving children, robbed of the opportunity to thrive, the movement was founded by Craig Shawn Williamson, a celebrated author and visionary. At the forefront of a heroic crusade against child hunger worldwide, Williamson is rallying a passionate army of Hunger Heroes who refuse to stand idly by while millions of children suffer from the devastating effects of malnutrition. Currently, over 345 million children globally face acute hunger, with severe malnutrition leading to the tragic loss of a child every nine seconds. These staggering statistics underscore the urgency of the foundation’s mission and the importance of collective action. The Child Hunger Project is dedicated to changing this narrative by providing immediate assistance and sustainable solutions to combat child hunger. Over the years, The Child Hunger Project has transformed lives, reaching significant milestones in the battle against childhood hunger. Having already fed over 50,000 children—many of whom were supported by Williamson’s personal funds before the project expanded—The Child Hunger Project is poised to make an even greater impact. With a bold vision to feed over one million children by the end of 2025, the initiative is forging vital partnerships with like-minded organizations and influential public figures. These alliances amplify the mission and expand access to critical resources for children in need. In partnership with Lady Victoria, The Child Hunger Project is set to broaden its global reach, connecting with more organizations and ensuring that help reaches every child who is starving. This strategic collaboration will create pathways to provide nutritional meals and support to those who need it the most. The project has made an undeniable impact, from the development of innovative merchandise to raise awareness and generate vital funding, to forging global alliances with organizations and individuals dedicated to eradicating child hunger. Through these efforts, countless children now have access to consistent, nutritious meals that are vital to their development and future. “The fight against childhood hunger isn’t just about providing food,” says Williamson. “It’s about building hope, opportunity, and the chance for children to thrive, not just survive. Our work is only beginning, and the more we collaborate, the more we can achieve.” A key element of The Child Hunger Project’s success is its network of Hunger Heroes—advocates, volunteers, and community leaders who play an active role in combating child hunger. These heroes can earn a living while making a profound impact, creating an honorable career path that exemplifies compassion and courage, helping them take impactful action through initiatives like food drives, local outreach, and leveraging social media to spread the word. By recruiting friends and family, Hunger Heroes build communities of support while earning a 20% commission on the contributions they help generate. This model not only fosters financial independence but also instills a sense of purpose and fulfillment in every participant. The foundation’s work has extended far beyond the United States. In Costa Rica, the foundation has made significant strides in improving school food programs. In many rural areas, children lacked the basic nourishment needed to succeed academically, so Williamson personally invested funds to support these initiatives, addressing not only meal costs but also essential infrastructure like water and electricity. Through partnerships with local communities and the Ministry of Education, these efforts have sparked a sustainable change in how children receive meals, ensuring that every child has access to the nutrients needed for success. The program has become a model of proactive, effective change, garnering recognition for its success and innovative approach. In 2024, The Child Hunger Project took a significant step forward with the launch of its podcast. With a format designed for short, impactful 15-minute episodes, the podcast offers updates, calls to action, and insights into the ongoing fight against childhood hunger. Through the podcast , Williamson aims to reach an even wider audience, leveraging storytelling and advocacy to drive real change. “We’ve learned that hunger isn’t just about food—it’s about breaking through the mental and emotional barriers that prevent people from taking action. Our podcast will help inspire more people to join this fight,” says Williamson. In 2025, the podcast will evolve with guest interviews featuring Hunger Heroes, industry leaders, and influencers who are making a difference in their communities and industries. With new partnerships in the fashion and music sectors, the podcast is set to amplify its reach and inspire millions to join the movement. As The Child Hunger Project heads into its ninth year, it is set up for significant growth. In addition to increased outreach across multiple U.S. communities, the organization is forging new partnerships with major companies in fashion, music, and charitable gaming, all of which are helping to fund and expand food distribution efforts. Through these innovative collaborations, The Child Hunger Project is not only broadening its impact but also driving growth in donor revenue, which will fuel its mission. With the introduction of initiatives like philanthropic branded merchandise, affiliate programs, and elite ambassador networks, the foundation is creating a sustainable model to end childhood hunger on a global scale. “There is no single solution to child hunger,” explains Williamson. “It’s a puzzle, and each piece, whether it’s a food program, an advocacy campaign, or a donation, is a vital part of the bigger picture. The more pieces we can bring together, the closer we get to solving this crisis.” The Child Hunger Project is more than a charity—it’s a movement. As 2025 begins, the momentum is undeniable. With every initiative, partnership, and new program, The Child Hunger Project is creating a future where every child has access to at least one meal a day and a chance at a brighter future. “Our work has only just begun. 2025 will be the turning point as we accelerate our efforts, reach new communities, and inspire a global network of Hunger Heroes. Together, we can create a world where no child goes hungry. The time to act is now,” states Williamson. ##

Selkie Fall 2025, “Libertine” at New York Fashion Week

0
Notes From Founder & Creative Director, Kimberley Gordon   Kimberley Gordon draws parallels between today’s cultural momentum and the revolutionary spirit of 18th century France in Selkie’s latest collection, Libertine. “We’re on the precipice of what feels like a revolution,” Kimberley says, transforming the historically masculine movement into a celebration of feminine power. “There’s a lot politically that feels that way, except now women aren’t held back in the way that they were in the 18th century. Drawing inspiration from the opulent era of Marie Antoinette, the pieces embrace historical excess. “I’ve always been inspired by that over-the-top time period of abundance in clothes and this extreme freedom of expression,” Gordon explains. “When cages were so large you filled up a room and having a boat in your hair was not only a norm, it was a political statement.” “When you strip the Selkie model down, she is still bold and strong and takes up space. It does not matter what trends come and go, what matters is making sure this girl, the Selkie girl, is always seen.”   Selkie Credits CREATIVE DIRECTOR: KIMBERLEY GORDON @wedreamoficecream PRODUCTION & PR: EMILY BUNGERT, POLY GLOBAL ADVISORY @emilybungertmn @poly_global_world STYLING: ALISHA SILVERSTEIN @alishasilverstein HAIR: LINH NGUYEN FOR CUTLER @linhhair @cutlersalon MAKEUP: LOTTIE FOR COLOURPOP @lotstar @colourpopcosmetics LIGHTING AND AUDIO: DAVE OVERCAMP @daveoveracamp SHOW LOCATION: The historical Angel Orensanz building in Manhattan’s Lower East Side ##

Evan Hirsch FW2025: An Artistic Statement NYFW

0
Like many designers, Evan Hirsch’s creative journey began at a young age with a love of drawing, coloring, & painting. He was enrolled in several art classes at the local art league & remembers feeling at ease in front of his giant easel & canvas. In college Evan took several painting classes, & the studio was almost identical to the settings in which he first explored his creative side as a youth. The metal easels, paint stained sinks, & cloudy plastic water containers, offered a sense of creative nostalgia. A near immediate feeling of ease came over him. For his Fall Winter 2025 collection, Evan sought to celebrate his love of painting by incorporating vibrant colors, distinct hues, & stunning ombres into the fabrications that evoked the artistic techniques he was first drawn to on when he began his creative journey.   Evan Hirsch Photos: Judy Phan Photography “I remember how at home I felt when I walked into my first art studio during college,” says Evan Hirsch. “The range of color combinations, some making striking effects via their random color mixes truly inspired me this season. The ultimate expression of color mixing to me is the ombre and this season, I utilized the technique in a majority of my pieces.” The Evan Hirsch name has become nearly synonymous with transforming reveal dresses which have gone viral on more than a few instances. This season, Evan pairs these dramatic moments with the art of color transformation, from one to another through a gradient. This allows a customer who doesn’t want a full “Broadway” quick change at their affair, to still have a transformation as their gown appears to blend from one color to another. Paired with diamond jewels from MiaDonna, the custom headpieces of Binata Millinery, nails from Lechat, & set in the Friedrichs Pontone Gallery, this collection is the embodiment of an Evan Hirsch original work of art! ##

Det Blev Sent Fall Winter 2025 “Fracture” NYFW

0
If you want to find the truth in something, take it apart piece by piece, then put it back together with the detail of a forensic scientist. This is a classical way to deconstruct a narrative. However, when you stand in front of 24 Hour Psycho (1993) slowly unfolding piece by piece, after five minutes, you’ve lost track of where the narrative started. I like this idea that you can take almost a scientific method and end up lost in a labyrinth of multiple, conflicting meanings, and that you have to acknowledge your own forgetfulness. — Douglas Gordon DET BLEV SENT Fall / Winter 2025 Collection “FRACTURE” draws inspiration from the artwork and ideas of Douglas Gordon. His work spans a variety of mediums, including video, installation, photography, text, and performance, but it is unified by the themes of separation, deconstruction, and recombination of time and scene. Gordon’s ability to shift our perspective on people and objects, using familiar forms of expression, is central to our approach. In this collection, we explore these themes by presenting the garment from a new, ambiguous perspective, embracing obscurity and multiple meanings. Det Blev Sent The overall color palette of the collection is influenced by both Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho and Douglas Gordon’s 24 Hour Psycho (1993). Warm blacks, browns and burgundies reflect the tones of Hitchcock’s Psycho, while cool blacks and silvery grays are drawn from Gordon’s 24 Hour Psycho. Despite the violent and psychologically fragmented narrative, both the film and artwork embody a quiet, timeless beauty in their tone and color. Just as Douglas Gordon reinterpreted Alfred Hitchcock’s work, we sought to reveal layers from different perspectives, bringing new colors to life through manipulation. To evoke ambivalence and obscure the meaning of color, the garments were bleached, re-dyed, and coated with wax, allowing the clothes to evolve as each layer was added. Over-dyeing revealed new colors that emerged over time. Additionally, some pieces were enhanced with a mix of paint and wax, adding new layers of color to the fabric, while the bomber jacket and trousers featured wax mixed with a thick paste that cracked and naturally bled off with time. The DBS signature leather hooded jacket and bomber jacket were deconstructed into repetitive components and reassembled into new garments through patchwork. The DET BLEV SENT Fall / Winter 2025 collection “FRACTURE” embodies a continuous exploration of transformation, perspective, and ambiguity. By drawing from the works of Hitchcock and Gordon, we have created a collection that challenges conventional understanding, blending deconstruction with reinvention to produce garments that evolve and reveal new meanings over time. ##
