## FILIPINXT: Celebrating Fashion Talent and Craftsmanship of the Philippines at New York Fashion Week FW2025
FILIPINXT made a bold statement at New York Fashion Week, delivering a groundbreaking celebration of Filipino creativity, craftsmanship, and culture.
This season’s show, which took place in the heart of New York City, marked a historic moment for the Philippines in the global fashion spotlight as a part of the official NYFW.com line up, featuring Bessie Besana, Edited Limited + Adante Leyesa, Bagoyan, and Tagpi— standout designers who fused tradition with modernity in their highly anticipated collections.
The event was an extraordinary fusion of heritage, sustainability, and innovation, as the designers not only showcased their individual styles but also honored their Filipino roots. The show, which garnered attention from top fashion insiders and global influencers, proved that Filipino fashion is not just a regional movement but one that is ready to compete on the world stage.
This season, FILIPINXT was presented by The Philippine Consulate in New York & Kalye NYC with partners Hwangs Inc, New York Makeup Academy, Angkla Resort and Travel Warehouse Inc.
Bessie Besana’s collection, “Rays of Twilight,” delivered a breathtaking spectacle that captivated the audience with its romance and sophistication. Known for his expertise in formal and bridal wear, Besana’s collection radiated elegance, featuring delicate Chantilly lace, silk, and tulle in serene whites and nudes.
“The woman I envision wearing these pieces celebrates love in all its forms,” said Besana. “I want her to feel her best, whether she’s in an intimate garden or on a quiet beach, embracing the love she has.”
The collection was a perfect blend of timeless elegance and contemporary style, with clean lines and innovative cuts that enhanced the natural beauty of the wearer.
Gabby Garcia of Tagpi brought an innovative twist to the NYFW runway with “Tahak,” which beautifully bridged the vibrant, tropical landscape of the Philippines with the cosmopolitan energy of New York City. As one of the youngest designers at the event, Garcia’s work showcased his commitment to Filipino culture and sustainability through high-quality, handwoven fabrics and intricate designs.
“Tahak represents a journey—where the lushness of the Philippines meets the sophistication of city life,” Garcia explained. “I wanted to create a collection that not only celebrates our culture but also speaks to the modern, global traveler.”
Using handwoven fabrics, tweed, wool, and crochet from the Philippines, Garcia’s collection was both visually striking and highly wearable. The color palette of blues and whites reflected the natural beauty of the islands, while the mix of structured and fluid silhouettes offered versatility for the modern, on-the-go individual.
“Tahak is about staying connected to our roots while embracing the future,” Garcia shared. “Fashion, for me, is a tool for celebrating our heritage and contributing to nation-building.”
Jasmine Baac presented “Bagoyan Rising”, a stunning tribute to the strength and resilience of Kalinga heritage. Baac, who hails from the Kalinga province, used her collection to honor her indigenous roots while embracing the future with modern, wearable designs.
“Through Bagoyan Rising, I want the world to see how our heritage can transcend boundaries,” said Baac. “This collection celebrates the artistry and power of Kalinga weaves, blending the traditional with the contemporary.”
The collection featured intricate handwoven Kalinga fabrics, pure linen, and Italian cotton in a bold, earthy color palette of red, terracotta, black, and blue. The result was a collection that not only highlighted the skill of Filipino artisans but also made a powerful statement about empowerment, heritage, and pride. Baac’s designs resonated deeply with the audience, embodying the spirit of Kalinga culture in each modern silhouette.
The collaboration between Leo Bartolome of Edited Limited and Adante Leyesa was one of the standout moments of FILIPINXT. Their collection, “Tough Love,” was a masterful exploration of contrast—where Bartolome’s bold streetwear with raw, deconstructed edges met Leyesa’s intricate and feminine accessories.
“I’ve learned to embrace my weaknesses as a designer,” shared Bartolome. “Working with limitations pushed me to innovate and create pieces that are not only high-quality but also meaningful.”
Leyesa’s intricate, hand-crafted statement pieces added depth and personality to the collection, with tactile fabrics and intricate embellishments that spoke to his passion for storytelling through design. “For me, fashion is more than just clothing; it’s art,” said Leyesa. “I want my pieces to be recognized not just as fashion, but as an emotional experience.”
The resulting collection was one of versatile, unfiltered, and striking separates—perfect for those who appreciate both high fashion and practicality.

Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet Fall 2025 Collection
Shakespeare Is In Love
For Fall 2025, alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet unveiled a production of unprecedented theatricality: a textured, romantic, and fantastical collection inspired by the world of William Shakespeare and costumes of The Royal Shakespeare Company.
With stage worthy flourishes like lace collars and cuffs, the collection takes the characters and finery of the great playwright’s beloved stories and reimagines them for modern women and occasions.
Stacey Bendet infused Fall 2025 with elements of romance and drama to evoke the characters, language and imagery of Shakespeare’s plays and sonnets. The intricate fabrications and regal silhouettes in the collection were developed from a dream starting point: the costumes that brought the most famous plays in the world to life. The design story began in Stratford- upon-Avon, a medieval English town renowned as the 16th-century birthplace of William Shakespeare, and home of The Royal Shakespeare Company. There, the alice + olivia design team immersed themselves in Shakespeare’s world, with special access to the RSC’s world- class theatre archive and costume hire collections; featuring historic costume items from the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in 1879 to the present day.
Alice + Olivia
Photos: Sam Spence
Visiting the Royal Shakespeare Company’s costume workshops, the largest in-house costume- making department of any British theatre, there was opportunity to glean inspiration from millinery and jewelry, armory, dyeing and footwear, all showcasing the costume-makers’ remarkable artistry, craft and embellishment.
This immersion in the RSC’s costume tradition comes through in the dramatic silhouettes of Fall 2025’s 16th-century inspired lantern skirts and capes, lace ornamented cuffs and collars, and jacquard illuminated with touches of gold. Literary references to Shakespeare’s poetry and plays are chicly incorporated into the clothes, from an embroidered skirt of sonnets, to a Lady Macbeth inspired black velvet full-skirted corset dress, and a Shakespeare themed ball gown. In the mix with velvet party dresses, are lace bodysuits and modern mini tweed skirt-and-blazer sets, the details that come to life for today’s Juliets.
“The beauty of this collection exemplifies how we can learn so much from the past to create in the present. “ – Stacey Bendet, CEO and founder of alice + olivia.
Denim jackets with bouquets of brooches, corsets styled with jeans, and suede stretch and latex leggings give the alice + olivia Shakespearean fantasy a modern, rock-and-roll baroque feel. Each luxe texture, from pearls to velvet, bows and applique, could inspire a sonnet. Famous lines of dialogue are cleverly threaded through the embroidery and prints in the collection, from The Merchant of Venice’s “All that glisters is not gold,” to A Midsummer Night’s Dream’s “Though she be but little, she is fierce.”
Many more quotes were incorporated into the Fall 2025 presentation’s sets, staged with each room a luxe set representing a Shakespearean play or serving as an homage to his work. Moving from the blooming set of A Midsummer Night’s Dream through to Juliet’s balcony looking over her garden, to quintessential Shakespearean banquet and apothecary, another homage to Romeo and Juliet, all contain the collection’s glowing characters. There is an elaborate gold backdrop that invokes The Merchant of Venice, and the ornate world lands on a final Shakespeare quote from All’s Well That Ends Well: “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.”
Modern Juliet inspired hairstyles featured big, jeweled braids adorned with cascading flowers, crafted by lead stylist Matthew Curtis. For makeup, T Cooper designed a clean-face look with glistening gold eyes and a bold Lady Macbeth red lip. Kate Somerville added stage-worthy shimmer to the body by blending moisturizing cream with gold flakes.

Matriarchy, Gynecocracy, Queen-dom, Her-archy, She-volution… Fempire.
As the Doomsday Clock ticks a second closer to midnight, we dream of turning an upside-down world on its head. Imagine a world where power moves sideways and care is currency. A world that doesn’t just reverse outdated norms but rewrites the script entirely—keeping what works, reconfiguring the rest.
This philosophy runs through everything we do. We take what’s been cast aside and make it new. This season, we raided thrift stores in New Jersey and transformed heirloom wedding dresses into modern Collina couture—honoring the women who came before us by adapting their legacy to the present. Outerwear follows the same ethos: men’s wool coats, stripped down and rebuilt with a softer, more fluid sensibility. No unnecessary waste, no sad sheep. Just reclamation—of materials, of power, of possibility.
Collina Strada

Now, imagine a world where unruly femininity, queerness, and disability aren’t embattled but emphatically embraced. Where what has been dismissed as excessive or unfit for the mainstream is exactly what shapes the future.
Until then, we brace for the present. We suit up. Protective gear on, shields and masks up. Hiding the tears, turning them into something else. Letting our freak flag fly, while knowing that sometimes stealth is survival.
In the distance, the hum of childhood scripts: tiny kitchens, mini-launderettes, the plastic trappings of preordained gender roles. As the regressive old tropes try to claw their way back, we lower our shades and say, I don’t know her.
Femininity is not a set of instructions. It’s a mess of beautiful contradictions—fierce and soft, dark and illuminating, private and protective, unapologetically visible and glam. Claim your space as a way to make room for others.
Be the star that you are.
