Hot talks with Romanian Designers at TRANOÏ Tokyo 2025

1. Ioana Ciolacu: Ioana Ciolacu – Designer

Romanian fashion is a captivating paradox—where heritage harmonizes with modernity, minimalism dances with bold structures, and each piece narrates a story. The essence of my work lies in empowering individuals to feel elegant and effortless in my creations.

Each collection we design embodies a fusion of art and practicality, offering versatile pieces that are both statement-making and effortlessly wearable. With a commitment to ethical production and high-quality materials, I cater to discerning, fashion-forward individuals who value creativity, individuality, and conscious living.

Our designs draw inspiration from architecture and balance, yet I always infuse them with emotion and surprise. My brand redefines modern femininity with a focus on sustainability and craftsmanship. By bridging the gap between high-fashion aesthetics and functional design, I aim to craft a distinctive narrative that celebrates the uniqueness of modern style.

I am grateful to be part of Tranoï Tokyo, joining forces with a distinguished community of Romanian brands. Rather than competing, we are united by a common goal: to elevate our Romanian heritage and quality to achieve significant success on the global stage.

2. BOL Fashion of Nature: Oana Lupas – Designer

My work is a heartfelt tribute. By channeling my passion, I ensure that every BOL creation is embroidered with my deep contemplation and admiration for Nature.

It’s not merely aesthetic, it’s about how we nurture our planet, artisans, and communities. Every fabric and stitch are chosen with purpose. Fashion is a language, and mine speaks of harmony, respect, and a deep connection to the Earth.

My brand embodies conscious living. I think that fashion should not only be beautiful but also responsible. The fabrics I use are crafted with care and respect for our planet. For me, Nature is not just a trendy accessory to enhance my collections; it is a fundamental part of BOL’s ethos.

I am overjoyed to be part of Tranoï Tokyo, seeing it as a fantastic opportunity to engage with remarkable individuals and experience an amazing culture.

3. ARAH by Diana Vasilescu: Diana Vasilescu – Designer

Craftsmanship is at the core of our brand’s identity. I have always believed that jewelry should tell a story—one that is personal, intimate, and timeless.

At ARAH, we create pieces that feel like an extension of the wearer, blending delicate craftsmanship with bold artistic expression. We aim to redefine elegance through unique jewelry, transforming precious metals into wearable art, symbols of beauty and individuality.

Each piece tells a story of authenticity, balance, and harmony, reflecting our belief that elegance should be both unique and meaningful. ARAH is not just about jewelry — it is an artistic vision. Inspired by nature and everyday life, I craft pieces from silver and gold that blend timeless refinement with bold details and artistic finesse.

4. Papucei: Lucia Bulancea – Sales Director

Shoes are more than accessories—they reflect personal style. The name of my brand, Papucei, translates as “little shoes,” and it reveals more about the brand than you might think. It embodies the essence of what we stand for, which has always revolved around shoes.

“Papucei” is a term that reflects a deep affection for a beloved pair of shoes—something you wouldn’t simply call “shoes.” This regional word is primarily used in the north-east of Romania, an area renowned for its long tradition in shoe manufacturing and the birthplace of Papucei.

Our brand is deeply connected to Romania’s shoe-making heritage, but we push the boundaries with bold designs that celebrate creativity and craftsmanship.

We are honored to participate in Tranoï Tokyo, alongside a vibrant community of outstanding Romanian brands. We view each other not as partners with a shared vision of promoting our Romanian roots and uniqueness to secure international success.

5. Scapadona: Andreea Ivan – Designer

I believe that fashion is about freedom, self-expression, and artistic exploration. We are here to show the world that our designs are not just garments, but stories woven into fabric. I founded Scapadona as a ready-to-wear brand, built on three main pillars: individuality, comfort, and sustainability. I believe that fashion should not only look good but also feel good and do good.

Each piece is a unique blend of refined design and casual elegance, perfect for the sophisticated woman who values comfort without compromising style. My brand’s sensitive concepts and artistic directions strongly support its commercial side.

Each unique piece features refined designs that can be worn casually yet elegantly, adding a touch of comfort. Our pieces are for individuals who value both sophistication and authenticity.

6. Tearless Street: Luis Drajan &Crina Stefanca – Creative Directors

As the founders of Tearless Street, Crina Stefanca and I, Luis Drajan, have created a luxury brand that emphasizes identity. Together, we develop a creative world where power and freedom prevail through clothing designed for everyday life.

Innovation is everything. We aim to break conventions and redefine luxury through bold silhouettes and unexpected materials. Our journey began with a passion for telling stories for strong individuals, therefore we craft a sharp, unconventional aesthetic that stands out. With each collection, we unveil new “skins” for those who seek to express their individuality.

Our silhouettes reinterpret classic wardrobe staples, defined by bold details and crafted from high-quality fabrics with the expertise of skilled artisans. Our brand takes inspiration from cinema, urban culture, and individuality, creating designs that empower people to express themselves fearlessly.

7. ATU Body Couture: Lacramioara Ilie – Founder & Catalin Valean – Designer

Our philosophy is that fashion should be an extension of the wearer’s personality, offering a blend of timeless aesthetics and contemporary edge.

Founded in June 2011, I created ATU Body Couture as a fashion brand that explores the realm of women’s fashion through aesthetically timeless collections. In Romanian, ATU means advantage. At the core of my creative process is a commitment to meticulous craftsmanship, driven by a passion for unique textures and a dedication to celebrating femininity with comfort and style.

Owning an ATU piece is a privilege because each garment represents a personal universe. When somebody wears my designs, they express the joy of having their own universe, enriched by femininity and exuberance. This is the ultimate source of happiness.

Through our collaboration with other Romanian brands and our participation in Tranoï Tokyo, we aim to prove that our designers are an undeniable force in the fashion world.

8. DeCorina Hats: Corina Leca – Designer

Hats are often overlooked in modern fashion, but they are powerful statements of individuality. My goal is to reinvent millinery as wearable art, blending traditional techniques with modern innovation.

I seek to blend timeless craftsmanship with a contemporary vision, bringing hats into the modern era. My brand combines traditional techniques with bold experimentation in fabrics, shapes, and concepts.

Each hat is one-of-a-kind, just like the person wearing it. I see DeCorina Hats as a reimagining of millinery as wearable art—distinctive, innovative, and deeply personal—designed for those who seek elegance and individuality in every detail.

9. AmiAmalia: Gabriela Rada – Operations Manager

In a world obsessed with speed, we need to slow down. Sustainability, for me, is about changing the way we think about fashion. Luxury should mean longevity, ethical production, and emotional connection—not excess. In a market often driven by fast fashion, I advocate for slow fashion by creating pieces that prioritize thoughtful design and lasting quality.

I focus on redefining luxury knitwear with a commitment to sustainability, individuality, and ethical craftsmanship. My clothing lines are crafted from premium, responsibly sourced yarns, chosen for their beauty and environmental integrity. Each piece I create celebrates versatility and longevity, designed to fit seamlessly into the dynamic lives of modern women. I want my knitwear to be treasured, not just worn for a season.

By producing in limited quantities and collaborating with responsible partners, I prioritize resource stewardship, ensuring that every garment reflects a story of care, authenticity, and exclusivity. AmiAmalia is more than just a brand. It is a movement towards meaningful, lasting fashion and about creating something that lasts, that carries meaning, and that challenges the disposable mindset of industry.

10. Irina Schrotter: Irina Schrotter – Founder

Romanian fashion has something truly special—an unmatched tradition of craftsmanship. Since its inception in the 1990s, my brand has become a symbol of refined femininity, seamlessly blending contemporary design with artisanal craftsmanship.

Our artisans have spent decades perfecting their skills, creating some of the finest pieces in luxury fashion. For me, it is not just about the design—it’s about the precision of a tailored cut, the flow of a perfectly draped fabric, the understated sophistication of a well-constructed piece.

With a distinct focus on neutral palettes, subtle textures, and innovative cuts, my designs transcend seasonal trends. The aesthetic is defined by fluid silhouettes, structured tailoring, and high-quality fabrics, creating effortlessly chic and versatile pieces. I embrace sustainability by prioritizing ethical production and responsible sourcing, all while maintaining a strong connection to Romanian craftsmanship.

I see my work as a bridge between the past and the future. From tailored separates to flowing dresses, my collections exude confidence, modernity, and quiet sophistication. I like to combine classic techniques and infuse them with modern minimalism, clean lines, and effortless elegance, while staying connected to Romanian craftsmanship through ethical production and responsible sourcing.

To grasp the quintessence of Romania’s presence at Tokyo, Ovidiu Buta (Romanian delegacy frontman, renowned international stylist from Romania, known for his work in fashion across major cities like Bucharest, Paris, and Milan) shares his vision, that fashion today stands at a crossroads, grappling with a lack of creativity, historical awareness, and craftsmanship. To survive and evolve, the industry must slow down and reconnect with its roots. A revival of artisanal techniques and a return to fashion’s slower, more deliberate evolution are essential. Craftsmanship brings something sorely missing from today’s fashion: uniqueness. In an era where fashion often feels homogenized, authenticity and individuality have become vital.

Romanian fashion, Ovidiu explains, has rightfully earned its place on the international stage, with brands now worn by global pop icons and resonating far beyond its borders. “The Romanian Design Collection tells a story of honesty, heritage, creativity, and craftsmanship—values that define today’s Romanian fashion,” he says. As this narrative unfolds in Tokyo, the hope is that the Japanese fashion community will embrace and connect with these values, strengthening the cultural and creative bridge between Romania and Japan.

As TRANOÏ Tokyo 2025 unfolds, the world gets a glimpse into the unexpected, innovative, and honest nature of Romanian fashion. These designers are not just presenting clothes; they are redefining the narrative of modern fashion—one collection at a time.
