Jenny Packham Spring 2018: New York Fashion Week

Jenny Packham NYFW SS18

Represented by Linda Gaunt Communications.

Ever the artist, Jenny Packham’s SS18 collection was inspired by the works of Lee Ufan and Katsushika Hokusai, as well as traditional Asian Gardens.

For Spring-Summer 2018, the result was chic, shimmery, and impeccably patterned, with silhouettes that flowed like ripples in a koi pond.

“Perfect asymmetry” is an essential feature of Asian garden design — as is a strong connection to nature through the integration of water and material texture. As in Hokusai’s “The Great Wave,” the effect of the Asian garden is to connect us to nature so we experience it rather than merely view it.

In the garden, texture is synonymous with layers of foliage and bursts of florals: color is used subtly.

texture is synonymous with layers of foliage and bursts of florals

By contrast, the artist Lee Ufan uses color vividly: his work is distinctive for its colorful fresh strokes drawn by a large brush on a white canvas.

In both, color is used to create a sense of energy that is uplifting and exciting.

Packham’s latest collection is colorful and energizing, with lines and colors that simultaneously soothe. You might even call it an example of that coveted “perfect asymmetry.”

Seeing Red: Dior Debuts Two New Beauty Products Ahead of Paris Fashion Week

0

Interview With Peter Philips, Creative And Image Director of Dior Makeup

The September-release timing with Paris Fashion Week (which starts September 25) may be coincidental, but it’s as good a time as any to see new,
striking beauty products from fashion powerhouse Dior.

For this new season, Dior Makeup Creative and Image Director Peter Philips has revealed two new Rouge Dior products: Rouge Liquid and Double Rouge.

If you adore Dior as much as we do, you’ll want to take a closer look at these products on dior.com and sephora.com.

Dior Rouge Liquid Lip Stain
Dior Rouge Liquid
Dior Rouge Liquid

Couture Color Intense Extreme Long-Wear

“It’s a very interesting formula. The texture is so light, it really feels like you’re applying a gloss, but watch out, because the result is powerful! It dresses the lips with a very feminine gesture. It also links up with the idea of empowerment, which advocates the values of power, and above all, confidence for today’s modern woman.”
– Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup

Laced with featherweight pigments that produce intense, vibrant color that lasts up to 12 hours. Dior’s first liquid lipstick is the next generation of liquid lipstick. A combination of wax, moisturizing oils, and setting agents make for a seamless, second-skin finish in one swipe.

Dior’s first liquid lipstick is the next generation of liquid lipstick.

Philips created 29 shades ranging from creamy beige to classic #999 Dior red to full-throttle black in three distinct textures – matte, satin, and metallic.

To “push back the limits, experiment, and shock people a bit,” Philips devised four extreme shades: Black Matte (a dramatic ebony), Oxblood Matte (a rich chocolate brown), Fab Satin (a deep, sensual plum), and Hologram (a multidimensional cyber silver that can be worn alone or used as a topcoat).

“It’s an on-the-go product that’s easy to wear and yet capable of producing a makeup result that’s worthy of the pros.”

Dior-Rouge-Double-Rouge-1
Dior Rouge Double Rouge

Rouge Dior Double Rouge is a study in contradictions: An intensely pigmented, matte outer ring wraps around a metallic core that catches the light to create the illusion of volume. As Philips explained, this innovative lipstick “exploits the almost retro idea of ombré” and reinvents the way consumers achieve this classic effect made famous by ’80s supermodels like Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington.

lets wearers achieve the classic effect made famous by ’80s supermodels

Simply place the bullet against the center of the mouth with the outer edge hugging the contour of the lip and swipe. No liner, no blending, no color matching — just perfectly balanced, fuller-looking lips with every application

To celebrate these standout colors in the Double Rouge collection, four coordinating, limited-edition nail lacquers were created to complete the lips-to-tips look.

Thanks to Dior, it’s a great time to see red: from lips to tips.

NYFW Diversity Report: The Fashion Week “Love Fest” Continues

0

At NYFW, #DiversityMatters

Unfortunately, diversity is something that has not always existed on the NYFW runways This season, designers made it a mission to increase diversity not only in skin tone, but also in size, casting models of all religious backgrounds and figures. They made a statement that what makes America beautiful and “great” is our differences .. and the love that share for each other..

what makes America beautiful and “great” is our differences

Here are 9 NYFW designers, whose love for diversity warmed our hearts.

1. Vivi Zubedi was one of two designers at the Indonesian Diversity runway show that showcased their collections with all-Hijabi models (several of which were muslim and immigrants), a bold statement given our current political climate and the Islamophobia that still exists in America.

Several of the abbayas (a traditional Muslim outerwear piece) were adorned by the message “All Colors Matters” to exemplify the translation from other languages to English; a test that many immigrants to the US face daily.

2. Dian Pelangi also showed at Indonesian Diversity’s runway show. Dian Pelangi is another Indonesian designer who shows that all hijabs are not made equal, diverging from the traditional form and showcasing shapes and colors that wowed the audience.

nyfw

The Indonesian Diversity platform not only allowed for hijabs to be seen on the runway once again, but also for diversity in designers.

Other Indonesian designers included Melia Wijaya, Catherine Njoo (photo below), Barli Asmara, and handbag designer Doris Dorthea.

And as the icing on the diveristy cake was that all the models wore Indonesian Halal makeup brand Wardah.

3. Catherine Njoo showed her pride in the inspiration of her headpieces (by Grace Liam). This collection was inspired by Legong, a refined dance form characterized by intricate finger movements, complicated footwork, and expressive gestures and facial expressions.

nyfw

But Indonesian Diveristy designers weren’t the only ones to come from across the seas to conquer NYFW.

4. Cindy Montiero – Cape Verdean designer Cindy Montiero’s show was roughly 90% minority models. A woman “of color” herself, Cindy wanted to represent her women and show that you are beautiful no matter what your ethnic background.

5. Vaishali S. – Indian designer Vaishali also casted with a mission of diversity; something that makes sense, as India is a place of various complexions.

nyfw

6. Runa Ray – Another Indian designer who also has a love for diversity, but also for saving the planet. Runa showed a sustainable collection and adorned each seat with seed pencils and paper that could be planted after the show. She didn’t just make a commitment to a beautiful show, but a more beautiful earth.

nyfw

7. Dan Liu is diversity personified. This Japanese/Chinese/Canadian has a flare for theatrics and is known for putting on quite a show. This season his casting of black and Asian models was extremely welcomed at Skylight Clarkson Square, showing to a packed house. Dan Liu dreams of dressing all the beautiful women of the world.

nyfw

8. Galtiscopio was one of many designers who brought hip hop into their show: other shows were Fenty X Puma, The Blondes, Philipp Plein, and others.

At Galtiscopio’s show, they had two musical performances: one from Diddy’s musical prodigy and son, Christian Combs, and another from R&B star Ray J. While. The luxury line is based in Paris, and the hip hop collaboration made major sense, as their watch line has a huge following in the hip hop community.

Rumor has it that Galtiscopio will soon be in a collaboration with young fashion icon and artist Christian Combs.

nyfw

Not all designers on a mission for diversity were from overseas; some of the them were born and raised right here in America, like Leanne Marshall from California.

9. Leanne Marshall is known for winning Season 5 of Project Runway, dressing celebs on the red carpet, and making brides across America beautiful. At this New York Fashion Week she, wanted to show her commitment to dressing real women of different shapes and sizes.

Runway Ready Makeup: How to Recreate the Dennis Basso Look

0

Dennis Basso: The Trends and Looks You Can Recreate

(Photo: Yannis Vlamos)

One show that impressed me at this year’s NYFW, especially in terms of makeup, was Dennis Basso at The Plaza Hotel. There was a clear and consistent direction, that all the models uniformly “wore” to achieve that WOW factor for the A-List audience.

It starts, as it always does, with the skin. All the skin looked almost completely natural, mostly with lots of glow and a bit of dewiness and moisture.

It starts, as it always does, with the skin

The brows were immaculate. Thicker, more shapely brows, personalized for each of the model’s unique faces were strong and evident. In determining your own brows, layering in a nice natural brown product with a dual brow brush can achieve that natural-looking fullness.

A consistent and common trend will be the berry looking blush, and a flushed deep red/plum for the lip. Blush and Lipstick are the two target products to focus on.

The first photo with the beige dress is a great example. The model looks very natural with the exception of a very bold cheek and lip. The color is definitive — it’s a bold, deep red mixed with some plum.

The blonde model is very similar. While both models are extremely different looking, they are both wearing uniquely similar colors. The blonde model has a little bit more of a brighter lip. It seems to be sort of like a stain which will remain very big this year! It’s really all about the lips. A great lip stain can add a pop to any outfit.

A great lip stain can add a pop to any outfit

The brunette models in the red and the orange have a little bit more of an earthy look, accentuating the decadence of the SS line. It’s a bit more neutral and natural, with a pop of a lip.

For this look, you can start with a match foundation, and use a blender or brush to ease in bronzer and blush in layers, to define the cheekbones and natural curves of the face.

For this look, you can start with a match foundation

Especially with the model wearing orange, everything looks very bronzy and the lip is a little more defined.

One thing that was significant and consistent was a high shine on top of the cheekbone. You can create this with the simple swipe of my favorite brush in my own collection — the fan brush, as a final, shimmery step.

high shine on top of the cheekbone is the trend right now

It definitely was the more artistic choice for skin, and is the trend in face makeup right now, blowing up your social media. I don’t think highlighters are going anywhere soon.

Leanne Marshall Spring 2018: New York Fashion Week

0

Leanne Marshall NYFW SS18

Represented by The Riviere Agency.

Leanne Marshall’s Spring/Summer collection was bold, delicate and dreamy. The designer said that she spent two months trying to find inspiration for her most recent collection. All the while, she couldn’t get past those green temporary walls all over New York City. The clear diamond windows on these little walls was stuck in the back of her mind as she searched for anything else she could base her collection around.

Leanne finally decided to trust her instincts on a sticky, hot, summer day, as she peered into one of those diamond windows. She imagined a secret tropical paradise she could escape into, away from the sweaty city streets. Her collection served as a glimpse into her own paradise, her version of what an oasis would be: in the form of bold colors, unparalleled patterns, and a vast array of fun silhouettes.

She imagined a secret tropical paradise she could escape into

Models of all shapes and sizes graced the runway in crop top numbers, pleated airy dresses with diamond cutouts, and fun striped dresses. The collection was refreshing, bold, and had everyone in the NYFW audience wanting to book a flight to some place warm and tropical.

Models of all shapes and sizes graced the runway

Bright chiffons flowed gracefully through the packed gallery at Clarkson Square. The show opened with gowns in an incredible emerald shade richer than anything we’ve seen before from the designer. Diamond cutouts trickled through several garments right at the center ribcage area.

Leanne introduced a bold print with royal blue and bright yellow splattered motif. White and yellow striped belts and piping accented the primary palette.

The designer felt that her collection could potentially take guests on an escape from the negativity occurring here in New York and all around the world. Using a diverse range of skin tones, shapes and sizes was a priority for Leanne this season.

She played with hemlines, asymmetric dresses and oversized coats. Flamenco-like layered maxi skirts and trapeze silhouettes cascaded throughout the color story which spanned from the greens and yellows to gorgeous bubblegum pink and burnt orange.

Her show concluded with a finale capsule of incredible watercolor printed chiffon gowns in gorgeous southwestern hues—a venture for the designer.

About Leanne Marshall

Leanne Marshall was born in Yuba City, California. When most little girls were playing house, Leanne was playing fashion designer with a sketchbook, colored pencils and spare bits of fabric. In no time at all, with the help of a local seamstress, she began bringing her sketches to life. At age 18, Leanne won the Levi’s Dockers Scholarship and was awarded a year of free tuition at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco where she went on to study. In mid 2007, she was able to leave her money job behind and make the leap into designing her own label full-time.

In 2008, what would become a career defining year, Leanne was selected as a contestant for Season 5 of Project Runway. With an unwavering determination, she made it all the way to the finale where she showed her, now famous, wave inspired collection in shades of turquoise, ivory and sand. The judges, and audiences worldwide, were captivated by her final collection and Leanne was crowned the winner.

Fresh after her Project Runway win, Leanne relocated to New York City where she continued to develop her line. Her collections have shown at New York Fashion Week and fashion weeks around the globe every year since 2008. Her work has been seen on Carrie Underwood, Ashley Benson, Salt, Ariana Grande, Andi MacDowell, Julianne Hough, Dasha Palanco, Jackie Cruz, Jane Fonda, Paula Abdul and many others. Her dresses and gowns have graced the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides, US Weekly, The Post, TV Guide, The New York Times, People, Grazia, Elle, LIFE, National Geographic, Lucky and countless others.

Leanne Marshall’s sophisticated designs are known for their light, flowing lines, feminine details and timeless elegance. Each dress is made in New York using only the highest quality materials. The Leanne Marshall Brand is a staple for the woman who wants a dress that will showcase, not overshadow, her beauty. Attention to high quality standards, proper flattering fits and silhouettes, and her unique ethereal approach to design have made Leanne a go-to for the today’s woman. With touches of classic and modern, sophistication and youth, Leanne Marshall has captured an effortless grace and timeless elegance in her collections.

Trendspotting: Trends Seen On the Runways of NYFW

Trends for NYFW Spring 2018

These designers are represented by The Riviere Agency.

As we wrap up another New York Fashion Week, we’re rounding up some of our favorite trends from this season’s runways. From real-figured models to bold pops of yellow, the SS18 catwalks were anything but average.

Political Statements

nyfw-trends02

Indonesian designer Vivi Zubedi made her statement by emroidering “All Colors Matter” on the back of one of her signature modern abbayas.

Leanne Marshall made it known that she designs for real bodies this NYFW. The designer is known for dressing all sizes on the red carpet, but this is the first season she made an impact on the runway showing a range of sizes on models.

Runa Ray‘s finale dress was created with a crying heart for Mother Earth who is currently suffering from the damage of humankind and modern culture.

Geometric Cutouts

nyfw-trends02

Cutouts in all different shapes and sizes made their mark on the New York Fashion Week runways. Designers like Galtiscopio, Cindy Monteiro, MB the Label, and Leanne Marshall used sharp lines to show some skin in diamond and triangular shapes.

Duster Jackets

nyfw-trends02

Vivi Zubedi, Jarel Zhang, and Vaishali S took this popular street style trend and elevated it for SS18. The designers each have their own unique take on the traditional duster in gorgeous gauze, silk, or even in a fun raincoat version.

Jumpsuits/Pantsuits

Plunging necklines, bell bottom pants, and floral prints proved that no two jumpsuits are alike. Designers Galtiscopio, Leanne Marshall, Runa Ray, Catherine Njoo, Barli Asmara, Flare Street, MB the Label, and Elliatt put their own signature twist on this head to toe piece. From cosmic velvets to layered lace, the jumpsuit craze is sure to be grabbed straight off the runway and onto our favorite celebs.

Yellow

nyfw-trends06

Yellow was all over every runway. Dian Pelangi, Vaishali S, MB the Label, Leanne Marshall, Jarel Zhang, Elliatt, Haus of Song, and Sabo Luxe were right there at the cusp of SS18 palettes. This unexpected pop of sunshine made its way onto dresses, jackets, gowns, and separates all over NYFW. Packing a punch with its bright and cheery aura, this color is sure to be a favorite next spring.

Metallics/Embellishments

nyfw-trends01

Designers weren’t afraid to pull out the embellishments this season, and we’re definitely not mad about it! Catherine Njoo, Galtiscopio, Vaishali S, Torannce, Bronx and Banco, and Flare Street showed us that there is no such thing as too much sparkle.

GCDS Spring 2018: New York Fashion Week

GCDS NYFW SS18

Represented by BPCM.

GCDS designer Giuliano Calza obviously understands that fashion is supposed to be sexy and fun. But lest you think his expertise ends there, take a look at his New York Fashion Week collection for SS18: quite possibly our favorite collection of the season so far.

The collection presented an irreverent take on the yachting club theme: moody women dressed up for fun in a colorful aesthetic without compromising sophistication.

Anyone who’s seen Antonioni’s Blow Up (as we have) may have a predisposition to the idea that fashion should be bold, bright, and fun. Calza’s superb collection channeled the best of the mod ’60s era while incorporating the best of modern Italian fashion, from Versace to Moschino, while managing to stay true to a playful vision all his own.

Modern Japan, Europe: it was all here, skillfully reworked with tight silhouettes, beach stripes, Loony Tunes color combinations and Thom Browne-esque repeating patterns.

The result was a super-cool collection that demanded that Calza be noticed as a designer that ranks among the best of his contemporaries.

We first took note of GCDS on the cover of RNWY magazine (note choker).

More Than Just Fashion: Sense and Aesthetics This NYFW

Sense and Aesthetics This NYFW

By Sue Phillips, Founder of Scenterprises House of Fragrance

Both on and off the catwalk, aesthetics and sensory factors play a huge role in the success of a designer and their ability to resonate with their audience.

Fashion is such a pivotal clue to our lifestyle and reflects our OUTER accessory. Fragrance, on the other hand, is intangible and subtle and reflects our authentic inner ethos. When I founded my create-your-own Scentarium in Tribeca, I wanted to pioneer the idea that the scent connects with feelings and emotions in ways that other senses cannot. This fashion week, I looked at the show as a whole, the same way I do when I envision my fragrances.

The final result: A cohesive, satisfying experience.

With the inclusion of glitter, flowers, sequin detailing, and other sensory delights, the transformation of visual spaces and the overall experience of fashion uses these tactics as enhancement for the feeling and the chicness of the brand. The importance and emphasis of color is essential. What does the color red smell like? What aromatic pleasures do you get from purple? Think about the colors the fashion designer chooses to make a statement.

Think about the colors the fashion designer chooses to make a statement

In bustling metropolitan cities like New York, Tokyo, London and Paris, the dominant color we see is black -– it’s safe, chic, powerful and above all, EASY to wear. However, in this age of selfies, think about reflecting who YOU are with gorgeous arrays of color and textures, and step out of your comfort zone of wearing black.

Put a zing of color in your wardrobe — it is so liberating and delightful to wear bright shades of fuchsia, turquoise, azure blues, and to accessorize them with matching earrings, bags, and shoes for both men and women.

Even in Fall and Winter, when we traditionally wear dark colors and staple black, lightening it up with different colors puts a zing in your step and a twinkle in your eye!

And it’s amazing how the opposite sex is attracted to color! Go ahead, bring out the fashion in you!
