Interview with Federico Pozzi Chiesa, CEO Fragiacomo

Represented by GUITAR PR.

Massimo Pozzi chiesa and Federico Pozzi Chiesa

Roman Holiday

Dante Fragiacomo arrived in Rome in the 1950s, boasting noble artisanal origins dating back to the late 1940s, when the very first family shop was opened by his father, Sebastiano in Cividale del Friuli. The exquisite quality of its products gained the brand a customer base from the world of art, film and culture, seeking exceptionally manufactured products that featured a bold character.

In 2010, Federico and Massimo Pozzi Chiesa took over the brand with the specific goal of preserving its high profile, ensuring continuity between the storied past of the brand and its new evolution.

The new management has put in place an international development plan for the brand through the outlining of a new corporate image and a renovated product identity. Fragiacomo is dedicated to cosmopolitan women and men inspired by glamour and style, who have a keen eye for details and Italian handmade quality.

Q: Fragiacomo will take part in the 75th Venice International Film Festival. How?

Fragiacomo has partnered with the Fondazione Mimmo Rotella Award, which takes place during the Venice International Film Festival. It’s a prize awarded to the films and protagonists that symbolically pursue the research of the Italian artist in the marriage between visual arts and film.

Fragiacomo participates in the event every year, and among the winners awarded by the brand during the last years were such great actors as George Clooney, James Franco, Paolo Sorrentino, Jude Law, and many others.

Q: Fragiacomo and the cinema is a partnership that dates back to the origins of the brand. How did it start?

In the jet-set of the Roman Dolce Vita, as well as with Milan’s haute bourgeoisie, Fragiacomo has always been the choice of illustrious protagonists of the big screen.

The Milan and Rome boutiques used to attract internationally renowned artists like Valentina Cortese, who appreciated elegant boots and pumps, as well as the great actors such as Tony Renis, Bud Spencer, and Kirk Douglas.

Q: Which celebrities who have chosen Fragiacomo are you most proud of?

Television and film influential characters choose Fragiacomo to express their unique and original style. James Franco, Paolo Sorrentino, Jude Law, Alessandra Mastronardi, Cristiana Capotondi, Ashley Green, and Virginia Raffaele are just some of the movie celebrities who wore Fragiacomo accessories.

Q: From La Dolce Vita to contemporary times: how do you find balance between your long-heritage and the needs of the present time?

The path of Fragiacomo evolves preserving its strong DNA and translating it into iconic models that retain the memory of over 60 years of know-how combined with contemporaneity, innovation and Italian quality. For example, the laser cut models refer to the historical archive of the maison reinterpreted, however, in a modern and captivating design and proposed in different heights and variations. As well as the buckle – the signature detail of Fragiacomo is reinterpreted in every upcoming collection in a new and contemporary way.

Q: Who is the most iconic contemporary muse for Fragiacomo?

Fragiacomo woman lives a dynamic life, succeeds in career, is talented in many ways and has a strong character.

Q: What is the Art of Handmade?

Quality, craftsmanship and exclusivity are the mainstays of the brand encountering the relentless evolution of its products. A cultural manifesto handed down from generations of experienced craftsmen, who make the magic cherished in every Fragiacomo product reality. The alchemy of excellent technique and pure creativity.

Every Fragiacomo accessory is the result of a long labour of manual precision. The work of Italian artisans contributes to the creation of each piece that acquires its uniqueness from the uncompromising craftsmanship of every process of its production.

Q: What are the iconic models of the 2018-2019 Fall Winter collection? Do you merge traditional (like handcraftsmanship) and modern (like laser) techniques?

In the upcoming Collection FW1819 Fragiacomo brings back the signature details such as the iconic floral embroidery that is proposed in ton sur ton combinations this time, laser cut models that refer to the historical pieces and are reinterpreted in different forms and heights and moccasin with the crystal buckle that is almost a quote of the authentic piece but proposed in new colors and materials. Fragiacomo collections always combine the elegance of it’s heritage and the innovative approach in the choice of materials and techniques.

Q: What are three adjectives that define Fragiacomo?

Traditionally innovative, contemporary luxury, strong character.

Let’s Talk About Plus Size and Body Positivity, Says Miami Swim Week Attendee

0

(Cover photo: Chromat)

“What About the 80%?” asks attendee

Model/entrepreneur Dani Bassett went to Miami Swim Week with high hopes of finding a selection of looks catering to the plus-size market, but felt disappointed, as she relates below. She says: “As a model, it was important for me to mean something more than just another pretty face. I wanted to bring value not just to potential clients, but to those watching. I use my platform to stand for self-love and body inclusivity, but to also serve as a stepping stone to other women. I started my company, Girl Blossom, for exactly that. Girl Blossom is dedicated to creatively develop women owned startups.

“I visited multiple pop-up locations through Swim Week, and was quite hopeful since over the years the fashion industry has been more accepting of different body types. I attended the Chromat pop-up being hosted at The Standard and the Miami Curves Week being hosted at The Marseilles Hotel. The Chromat event was wonderful, the hotel itself is great along with the staff that was working at the Chromat tent. They were very kind and helpful and when I tried on a few items, they actually made notes next to each item on how to improve them.

The Chromat event was wonderful

“After, I made my way over to the Marseilles Hotel where Miami Curves Week was held.

Thick Wave

“The brands at Miami Curves Week felt strongly about representing the Curve community. Out of the vendors selling swimsuits, I would say that Thick Wave showed most that they wanted to add a bit more edge. They added deep-v slits to their one and two pieces and they’re adding clear center panels to their tops.

Thick Wave showed most that they wanted to add a bit more edge

“I think the reason I was expecting more is because of the swimsuit for all collaborations with Gabi Fresh and Ashley Graham. Heck, I’ll even throw Fashion Nova Curve in there. Gabi and Ashley really give us great styles. They add sexy details, colors, and support where it’s needed. Unfortunately, I thought I’d see more of that and I didn’t.

“I then walked toward the massive, extravagant Cabana Show. They had two massive tents built in Collins Park and part of the third floor at the W Hotel. I was pretty excited about this one because it was hundreds and hundreds of vendors all in one space, and I thought to myself, ‘there has to be a representation of all sizes in either of those tents.’ I walked through many accessory vendors, beach wear, and of course swimsuits.

“After walking through both tents, I was again disappointed. When you have the people like Tara Lynn, Ashley Graham, Paloma Elsesser, Denise Bidot, and so many other beautiful faces representing such a MASSIVE community, it makes you really wonder what’s going on that these sizes are still not being represented.

“At this point, it’s honestly upsetting.

“Outside of Swim Week, have you gone through some of these high end retailers’ Instagram feeds? All of the women on there are sizes 2 and under. Yes, those women are beautiful and they have all the right to be featured, but so do we. Beyoncé and JLO are not our representatives just because they have bigger hips, yet those are the only two curvy women featured on NET-A-PORTER, for example.

“It’s exhausting that we still have to fight this battle when 80% of the world is larger than a size 2.

80% of the world is larger than a size 2

“Times are changing, and for a industry that’s all about change and innovation, it seems like there’s a huge disconnect.

“We will continue to let our voices be heard and we will earn our seat at the table. Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts and concerns.”

What’s it Like Casting During Miami Swim Week? The ModelSmith Reveals All.

0

The ModelSmith Miami Swim Week

by Lauren Smith, Owner of The ModelSmith

2018 was the second year my boutique agency, The ModelSmith, stepped off the plane from Los Angeles to Miami, with a group of new faces ready to see what happens during the week when models from across the country pack up their bikinis and head to Miami.

MODELS: Matilde Redbridge, left and Ginger Chirstie, Right.

Last year we went as four people, and booked a couple of the smaller shows, but we had an incredible time. A couple of those girls have since picked up for the acting world, and this year it was seven new faces, some even new to us, who — new as they may be — weren’t ready to miss the opportunity to strut a Swim Week runway.

we weren’t ready to miss the opportunity to strut

I have a new plus-sized model leaving her recent law degree and job in the UK to come to LA and pursue her passion for modeling this summer. When I told her we would talk after Miami, she said she’d love to come to Miami and that she’d meet me there.

That kind of drive is where the competition in Miami STARTS. Last year we went in pretty blind. As an agent who has been in the fashion and agency world for a while now, I know what it takes in LA, and I know what it takes in Miami, but it changes. One of the first shows we saw this year was the bikini.com with NewMARK Models show.

That kind of drive is where the competition in Miami STARTS

Jules [Newmark] is someone who I’ve worked with, and I’ve always admired the way she works. Her girls aren’t all 5’10 either, so they put on their own show, and it was so busy you couldn’t move. That was awesome.”

Model Samantha Erikson

The ModelSmith — hence its name, and its play on the old job of blacksmith, and their ability to take metal and mold and shape it — focuses on the development of New Faces, then taking the talents and genuine interests of those models and talent to pair them with jobs that are a real fit for all.

We take the genuine interests of models to pair them with jobs that are a real fit

I don’t have the girls who all have upwards of quarter-of-a million Instagram followers. Most of my girls are not 5’10”. But like, the talent I bring on, I wasn’t willing to let that hold us back.

Most of my girls are not 5’10”

I have plus-sized girls. ‘Plus,’ or ‘curve,’ has finally taken off. We’ve seen it on runways, on the pages of SI — we saw it win SI this year.

SI was probably one of the highlights of this year, while also a contributor to the craziness. One of my plus girls made it to the second round of SI. It’s been a goal of hers for years to meet MJ Day, and she did. I have absolutely no doubt she’ll be a household name of that magazine in short years to come.”

One of my plus girls made it to the second round of SI

Another thing that has been extremely important to me personally has been taking on clients who are people I find inspiring, committed, and just someone you’d want to hang out with! Who wants to work this kind of gig with someone who can’t laugh? Not me.

I personally love looking at a model and wanting to know more about them. A lot of these talents represent multiple ethnicities from all over the world, so if I have the opportunity to learn about that and see them represent it, I absolutely want to. And I think more people in the fashion industry are starting to, as well.

Model: Matilde Redbridge

I’m from Detroit, Michigan. We didn’t get a whole lot of culture there, so watching models from countries I know nothing about show up for their families, and give people where they’re from a possible confidence to go out there and do something, is incredible to me.

It’s harder as a small agency to have the brand contacts, and “ins” it takes to get your girls up there. It takes time, and it is nothing short of a daily hustle. I applaud the girls who fly in without an agency or a booking and just hope to cast. The larger castings help that.

We got into an Art Hearts Fashion casting (thank you to Art Hearts Fashion for the open bar!), and while it was a long day and only a few of my models were invited, they got out there and at 5’6” or 5’11, or a plus size 16, gave it their all in a way that makes it all worth it. That doesn’t mean I didn’t make these girls walk, and walk again.

One of our favorite quotes this year was from one of the designers kind of running the casting. He was seeing the last of the girls walk a few more times to see if they could get in there (and they did).

I had a more petite model with me who has a fierce walk and nothing short of a swim body. He said, “We’ll have to put you in 6-inch heels, can you do that?”

Without missing a beat, she told him “I can run in 7,” and went out in the grass to show him her walk. I loved it. She was laughing on the way back because she knew how well she did.

We’ll have to put you in 6-inch heels, can you do that? She replied: “I can run in 7.”

Model: Matilde Redbridge

This year we had creative director Luca Burnett of Yantra Beauty with us because, well, Miami humidity. It was fun being able to create content and experience that together.

Next year we want to kick this up big time and really work as a team. Teaming up with people who work like you, or understand your vision and believe in it, is so helpful. To start out with any talent, brand, company and grow together — you just never know what will happen for either, and you have a better chance of doing it together.

This year the stakes were higher than ever. I think a lot of the bookings were direct, there were less castings, and the shows were full of past-walk favorites.

Reasonably so, the KAOHS show may have been my favorite that I got to see. They used the majority of the models they did last year, but I’m also a huge music fan, and they nailed the music too. Everything from show soundtrack, the venue with the runway on water, the delicate but playfully sexy suits, shut it down. It was jaw-dropping.

the KAOHS show may have been my favorite

There are also a lot of pre-booked Instagram favorites at these bigger shows, which you’ll hear a lot of people talk about. People want to see familiar faces.

I also loved Maaji, hosted by Paraiso: 5’10” bodies straight off of island surfboards! Then drummers? And then a few dancers joined by more and more dancers? It was an exhilarating feeling to end the week on.

Any model who didn’t book can watch the shows and appreciate the girls that do. I tell my girls to look for what they were ‘missing,’ but also look for what they have and don’t see. Going to learn that for your first year alone is worth it.

Miss Bikini Spring Summer 2019: Miami Swim Week

0

Miss Bikini Miami Swim Week FW19

The 4th annual Miss Bikini United States pageant kicked off Miami Swim Week with a Swim Show featuring 10 up and coming swimwear designers from the U.S., Canada, Scandinavia, Brazil and Colombia.

This was pageant producer Dawn Rochelle’s first time to produce a show for Swim Week. She thought she was producing a small show as a preview to the pageant.

“We originally had 7 designers booked for our show, but that quickly expanded,” said Dawn.

After learning (from Donald Campagna, @donald.campagna) about another producer who cancelled last minute, leaving many designers out in the cold with no place to show, Dawn and the Miss Bikini US team jumped into action and extended an offer through Fashion Weekly Online to help the displaced designers by inviting them to join the Miss Bikini Swim Show.

Dawn and the Miss Bikini US team jumped into action to help the affected designers

“Within minutes of extending the offer we started hearing from designers. Two of the designers were traveling here from other countries. They had their designs ready, plane tickets bought, everything and no place to go. In total, we were able to help three designers and add them to our show,” said Dawn. “I felt it was something we had to do. The fashion community sticks together, so helping them just felt right.”

The following night, the Miss Bikini United States Pageant finals took place at the Hilton Cabana Miami Beach overlooking the ocean. The final show was hosted by Miss Bikini US 2017, Faren Aimee.

Contestants from all across the U.S. walked the runway, competing in the categories of Fantasy Swimwear and Evening Gown. In the end it was Brianne Pearson, of Chicago, Illinois, who took home the Miss Bikini US crown. Dani Fernandez, also from Illinois, took home the Miss Bikini Model division title. Miss Hawaii, Ala White, was named the People’s Choice Winner and Miss Caribbean, Sharlene Osbourne, was named Miss Congeniality.

Sylvian Hyde x Yeroc by Corey Woods: New York Fashion Week Men’s

Sylvian Hyde NYFW

Last NYFW: Men’s, on July 9th, 2018 at Battery Park City in lower Manhattan, emerging designer Sylvian Hyde’s SS19 collection with Yeroc by Corey Woods eyewear was at the lily pond.

New York is home to many aspiring designers and emerging brands, but who is Sylvian Hyde?

Hyde is a native of Belize who had to leave in 2014 for his own safety. During his lengthy, dehumanizing experience at the Immigration Detention Center, he spent his days sketching his designs outfitted in Bergen County Jail-orange using improvised art supplies. With a three-inch pencil, the white rubber edges of his shoes as an improvised eraser and a safety flex pen, Hyde went to work.

he used the white rubber edges of his shoes as an improvised eraser

Hyde later used friction, rubbing torn colored pieces of the New York Times newspaper unto specific areas of his designs to color them. With nothing but time to spare and suffering faces around him, Hyde channeled his emotions and energy into his once-impossible dream in Belize, of being a fashion designer in the land of opportunity.

Nadjea Spring 2019: Miami Swim Week

Nadjea Miami Swim Week FW19

On Sunday, July 15th, Miami-based swimwear brand Nadjea debuted their succinct and refined “Art Deco” Collection to a packed poolside crowd at the renowned Richmond Hotel in South Beach.

With a boutique located directly within the Richmond Hotel, the 8-year-old Nadjea brand perfectly complimented the hotel’s Art Deco aesthetics with clean lines, bold colors, and geometrical cuts.

Indeed, the featured styles were as diverse as they were eccentric: high-waisted patterned bottoms juxtaposed perfectly with plunging tops, one piece swimsuit staples were elevated with body-hugging ribbons, daring cuts, and vibrant splashes of color, while an elegant and piercing white cover-up provided the perfect contrast to the slowly descending Miami sun.

As it turns out, the picturesque Richmond Hotel was in fact a symbolic precursor to Nadjea‘s collection: sophisticated, curated, and welcoming to all.

Atelier Paulin – Beautiful craftsmanship leads to even more beautiful jewelry

Atelier Paulin – Beautiful craftsmanship leads to even more beautiful jewelry

Combining friendship, fashion, and craftsmanship, Anne-Sophia Baillet and Matthias Lavaux started what is known today as Atelier Paulin.

The idea came about after Anne-Sophia’s daughter, Colette, was born and was given a personalized bracelet. A famed Parisian store, which utilizes a unique jewelry making technique consisting of a single metal thread, saw the bracelet and the two partnered up. Atelier Paulin identified an opportunity to combine a dying French craftsmanship and unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Atelier Paulin – Beautiful craftsmanship

[portfolio_slideshow id=60562 align=center width=699 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

Fashion has become conscious and as a result, is leaning more towards personalization, as limiting excess inventory and creating a connection to a consumer lasts much longer than most accessories can. That is Atelier Paulin’s ethos.

Atelier Paulin uses trained and skilled individuals to create each piece of jewelry, which ranges from plain or twisted metal bangles, rings, necklaces, charms, fibulas, earcuffs, cuff links, and even children’s pieces. Atelier Paulin uses argentium, 9K and 14K gold-filled thread, as well as 18K gold in yellow, white, or rose gold. Even more is coming from the brand, so keep an eye out for new products and materials. One thing is for sure, the products are lightweight yet durable and every piece ordered carries with it a delicate message to its owner and to others.

The craftsmanship is beautiful to watch and made-to-order in either New York or in France. Using a mix of tools and carefully measured calculations, most pieces can be made in about thirty minutes.

Whether you need a gift for your bridesmaids, your significant other, a baby shower, or even an excuse to #treatyoself, look no further than Atelier Paulin. Everyone will ask you where you got your jewelry from.
