Sól Hansdóttir Show Presentation, Copenhagen Fashion Week

“I feel like this collection is about translating deeper meanings in our making processes into something more accessible and urgent for my audience.”

Sól Hansdóttir runs her eponymous
womenswear label from its London studio.

Originally from Iceland, Sól started the label after graduation from the MA fashion course at Central Saint Martins, and stints at Katie Hiller, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs & J&M Davidson.

Describing her practice as ‘antidisciplinary’, Sól’s collections work hard to upturn industry expectations, and push new notions of beauty, adornment and dressing. In turn, the label has achieved a cult following, with leading artists and performers, and actors among her private clients.

Every output from the studio is the result of rigorous material sourcing, using upcycled materials/ deadstock/ end-of-life fabrics & locally sourced material. A rental division model is planned, such is the business’ commitment to avoiding over production.

The label is underpinned by experimental pattern-making, and often features Icelandic folkloric or handcraft references. Each collection is a journey through this landscape, resulting in the label’s distinctive, inimitable look.
