The Ultimate Guide to Men’s Suits: Style, Fit & Trends

Introduction to Men’s Suits

The number of suits in the world is millions.

With so much on our plates already, how are we guys meant to make a decision? As long as you learn the fundamentals, it doesn’t have to be that difficult. For this reason, we have compiled a list of the most common suit styles you’ll see in daily life along with the appropriate occasions for each. To finish off your style, don’t forget to accessorize your suit with the appropriate pieces, such as the ideal men’s dress shoes.

When worn for everyday workplace attire, special occasions, or business meetings, a well-made suit can make a big impression. Any man who wants to invest in his wardrobe must understand what makes a suit unique in terms of quality and style.

Choosing the Perfect Suit for Men

Selecting the appropriate fabric is the next step after deciding on a suit style. The most popular materials for mens suits are:

Wool
Because of its inherent wrinkle resistance, comfort, and durability, wool is the most often used suit fabric. It comes in a variety of weights, ranging from lighter summer materials to thicker winter ones.

Linen
Because they are airy and lightweight, linen suits are a timeless summertime choice. They wrinkle quickly, but they’re ideal for outdoor gatherings.

Single-Breasted Suits
One of the most popular suit styles is the traditional single-breasted suit, which is distinguished by its single row of buttons. Although this suit often has a single button, it can potentially have a single row of three buttons. It’s critical to understand the golden rule when wearing this suit: If your blazer has more than one button, always leave the last one unfastened. The more casual the suit, the less buttons the jacket has.

Double-Breasted Suits
Two vertical rows of buttons run parallel to each other on either side of the blazer of the double-breasted suit. Although this suit typically has six buttons, it occasionally has eight buttons altogether. There will be a minimum of four buttons. The last button must always remain unfastened, just like in a single-breasted suit. Compared to the single-breasted suit, this one is dressier and more suited for formal settings. For those seeking a slimming effect, this is the ideal product. In addition to drawing attention to your shoulders, it also makes you look thinner, which might give the impression that you are taller. Isn’t that usually a bonus?

Cotton
Because they are breathable and lightweight, cotton suits are a fantastic choice for warmer climates. Although they aren’t as formal as wool suits, they may nevertheless be dressed up for formal events like business meetings.

Synthetic Fabrics
Although synthetic materials like polyester and rayon are less expensive and require less maintenance, they don’t have the same natural feel or durability as wool or cotton. It’s wise to save them for special occasions.

How to Style a Men’s Suit

The list of suit styles is endless and includes single-breasted, double-breasted, peak lapel, notch lapel, and more. The fit, however, is the most important factor. In the end, “streamlined” is the greatest way to characterize a fantastic suit – neat hems, neat lines, and little extra fabric.

Take some inspiration from Dior Men.

HOW SHOULD A SUIT FIT
To begin with, you are not required to take your own measurements. A tape measure and professionals who know how to use it should be available at each respectable suit store.

In-store, we provide a suit measurement service. One of our knowledgeable staff members will measure you when you visit, ensuring that our suits are customized for you.

However, for your information, these are the standard suit measurements.

Jacket fit
Your chest should come first. The size of the jacket will be greatly influenced by this. Wrap a piece of tape across the thickest area of your chest. Additionally, keep in mind that inches, not centimeters, are used to measure suits. Start looking at suit coats that are 40 or 42 inches around if your chest measures 40 inches.

Length of sleeves
Because a man’s arms don’t usually exactly match the length of his chest, sleeves might be challenging. The sleeve of the suit should ideally fall exactly on your wrist, with a centimeter or so of shirt cuff showing through. The bottom of the jacket should be in line with your thumb when you hang your arms down by your sides.

Shoulder position
Seeing suit shoulders that are overly broad is the worst thing ever. It’s not the 1980s. Power shoulders are no longer necessary. Regarding shoulders, examine the seam where the jacket and sleeve connect. It ought to rest directly on your shoulder. Neither too high nor too low.

Closure
As you put on your suit jacket, fasten the top and check yourself in the mirror. The jacket’s general form shouldn’t alter significantly. A sausage that has been cinched in the center is not what you want to look like. Additionally, make sure your tie doesn’t protrude below the button point. Your jacket is too tiny if that’s the case.

Suit pants
It’s normal for pants to require some altering in order to fit perfectly. They should fit your waist, bottom, thighs, and ankles without being too tight or too loose. The ‘break’—the way the trouser hem rests on your shoes—is another little detail. You want to notice a slight dent, but nothing too big. We refer to it as a mid-break.

Latest Trends in Men’s Suits (2025 Edition)

It’s a good thing that suits aren’t as common as they once were. What it means to wear a suit has changed due to comfort-seeking, bolder trends, working from home, and dressing down. Wedding days and funerals are still appropriate occasions for traditional suit wear and bookkeepers. It’s time to embrace some fresh concepts for everything else.

But for now, they’re the only thing we want to wear, and there’s no better place to start if you want a short guide on how to dress like a MenUSA employee this year.

  1. Cuffless Beanies
The male dome has been dominated by cuffed beanies for over ten years. Starter pack jokes and incessant jabs at the archetypal little bearded man with a thick mustache, itsy tattoos, and a tote bag have been sparked by this. However, there is now a noticeable trend toward simpler, less noticeable substitutes. Greetings from a brave new world of cuddly beanies.
  2. Bootcut Jeans
My entire world changed when I tried on the brand-new, chocolate Our Legacy bootcut jeans from Dover Street Market. Has it been pointless to compare jeans with narrow and broader legs? This was the best of both, after all. Bootcuts do a little bit of everything: they are slim in the leg and thigh but have flow and drape from the knee down.
  3. Put a Pin In It
The latest development in the entire realm of “Men wearing more jewelry”? pins and brooches. While Drew Starkey has been sporting a simple pin, Jacob Elordi has a playful frog on his lapels, and even Kendrick is in on the trend, buyers at last month’s Paris Fashion Week were purchasing brooches from designers like Bleue Burnham and (again) The Ouze.
  4. Razor-Thin Eyewear
Many styles have returned to popularity as a result of the resurgence of the 1990s and early 2000s. Although thick-framed, bug-eyed sunglasses were common in those days, featherlight, very thin eyewear is making a comeback.
  5. Pants With a Literal Twist
And what may the big pants agenda look like in 2025? It is better to consider structure rather than fit. Additionally, pants with twisted seams are something to be very aware of. Whether they wrap around the front or rear of the leg, delinquent seams contain everything needed for a successful year: They have a fair amount of Y2K nostalgia mixed with an accessible bit of roughed-up freak.
