SmokySewCo: A Tale of Craftsmanship and Purpose in Sustainable Fashion

In the heart of the Smoky Mountains, Jacqueline and Nicholas Macaluso have built a brand that seamlessly blends artistry, personal storytelling, and sustainability.

SmokySewCo, their brainchild, stands as a testament to their shared vision of fashion as both a craft and a canvas for self-expression. Each garment is designed to be interchangeable, adorned with intricate embroidery that allows wearers to adapt the piece to their mood or story. This innovative approach ensures versatility while staying true to their commitment to ethically made, sustainable fashion.

Jacqueline’s expertise as a master tailor brings a meticulous level of craftsmanship to SmokySewCo’s creations. With a BFA in Fashion Design and an MBA in Marketing, as well as experience restoring textiles at the Smithsonian, she combines technical precision with an eye for detail. Nicholas complements this skillset with a creative flair honed through his studies in audio engineering production and a minor in photography at the Art Institute of Atlanta and years of professional dancing. Self-taught in embroidery, Nicholas brings his unique artistry to the brand’s designs, ensuring every piece resonates with individuality and beauty.

Beyond their roles as designers, Jacqueline and Nicholas are vocal advocates for addiction recovery and mental health awareness. As proud members of the recovery community, they have drawn strength from their challenges, including living in a small town slow to embrace change and artistic expression. Their resilience and authenticity have allowed them to overcome these obstacles, using their art to inspire others to embrace their true selves and pursue their passions despite societal or personal struggles.

SmokySewCo is more than just a fashion brand—it’s a platform for empowerment and hope. Jacqueline and Nicholas aim to inspire the next generation of artists, particularly those facing addiction, mental health challenges, or discrimination. By sharing their story and channeling adversity into creativity, they offer not only sustainable, beautifully crafted garments but also a powerful message: fashion can be a medium for personal expression and a beacon of hope in the face of life’s challenges.
