Luar NYFW FW19
Represented by Gia Kuan.
On Wednesday, September 12, Raul Lopez presented the LUAR Spring/Summer 2019 Runway Show at the Old National Bank on 415 Broadway in New York City.
Featuring over thirty white looks, the Spring/Summer 2019 Collection titled El Infinitum Purgatorio is about purgatory and rebirth, as well as blurring the lines as to what is real versus what is fake. For the look book, the designer has partnered with Facetune2, the next generation of Facetune and commissioned artist Fletcher Nightwine to create a set of imagery that breaks preconceived standards of beauty: exaggerated shoulders, shrunken accessories, elongated hems – creating a heightened sense of reality. The imagery plays with the understanding of Facetune being a widely used app and advances the conversation around “perfect” body standards, reflecting back to that fact that audiences are inevitably trained to know these are not real.

Following the show until September 30th, LUAR will present a showroom as well as a pop-up retail concept introducing exclusive items. This direct to consumer experience takes place while the 1984 documentary Living Los Sures film by Diego Echeverria plays in the background. Los Sures was considered the worst ghetto in the late 70s and early 80s, now the site of a battle between local identity and luxury lifestyle – a key theme in Raul’s Spring / Summer 2019 collection. Presented by Vibes Studios, the LUAR showroom and store is part of an ongoing creational effort presented by Vibes as part of the ON CANAL Project.

ABOUT LUAR
LUAR is the reversed namesake label of Williamsburg-based, designer Raul Lopez, former co-founder of Hood By Air. Of Dominican descent, Raul began to design at the age of 12 and growing up was inspired by the downtown New York scene. Raul wanted to share this energy with his friends who lived in the uptown Washington Heights neighborhoods, where they would frequent Dominican clubs and parties. The philosophy of LUAR lies in the intersection of New York City and the Dominican Republic, promoting the constant curiosity of “tomorrow” or what’s up next. Raul has no strict rules when designing; he keeps it unique, neutral in color, and gender fluid. Having worn by the likes of Future, Kendrick Lamar, Solange Knowles, Tyga, Theophilus London, LUAR currently retails at Opening Ceremony, Hard Candy, GR8 Tokyo and Radd Lounge. WWW.LUAR.IO | @LUAR

ABOUT FACETUNE2
Facetune2 is the next generation of Facetune, released four years later in November 2016. Unlike Facetune, it is free to download with the option to subscribe for VIP tools. While Facetune was positioned as more a retouching/blemish removal tool, Facetune2 gives you the tools to decide & control how the world sees you. It promotes confidence and breaks the illusion of “perfect” body ideals. With millions of users worldwide it levels the playing field: because everyone knows everyone is using it, society is less and less likely to believe that “perfect” body standards are real or attainable. For most, social media is a highlight reel of your life, putting yourself out there the way you want to be seen. Facetune2 gives you the power to do that on your own.
