Istanbul Modest Fashion Week 2024: A Resounding Success in Redefining Global Fashion Norms

And once again says “Modesty is the New Cool!”

Istanbul Modest Fashion Week 2024 was held last week at the historical Fisekhane – Gallery in Istanbul, marking the 9th edition of the famous Modest Fashion Weeks by Think Fashion event series. From April 25th to 27th, Istanbul Modest Fashion Week 2024 hosted 24 fashion shows, 29 brand booths, 11 talk shows, experience points, and a mini art gallery, providing a comprehensive fashion experience as promised.

Under the theme of “A Unique Fashion Call for Solidarity”, Istanbul Modest Fashion Week 2024 brought together designers, brands, influencers, industry leaders, retailers, media professionals, and fashion enthusiasts from all over the world to celebrate the artistry of modest fashion. The event, once again, served as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and inspiration, fostering connections that transcend borders and boundaries.

Istanbul Modest Fashion Week 2024

For the first time since 2016, Modest Fashion Weeks by Think Fashion series returned to their hometown of Istanbul for their special edition and the Think Fashion Team referred to this edition as their “signature event”. They received an overwhelming interest from fashion enthusiasts, hosting a total of 2135 visitor guests for 3 days. The event offered its guests an exclusive fashion scene with a rich program right at the place of diversity, leaving everyone wondering, “When is the next edition?”

“We’re delighted to have successfully completed Istanbul Modest Fashion Week 2024, our 9th global edition. Many brands are already asking about our next edition, and when and in which country it will be held, stating that they’d like to participate. While this honors us, it also puts much more responsibility on us. We will continue our journey with our vision based on inclusive fashion and global partnerships. I wholeheartedly congratulate all our participants and thank all fashion enthusiasts who were here with us at this very special moment, celebrating diversity and inclusivity.” said Ozlem Sahin Ertas, the CEO of Modest Fashion Weeks by Think Fashion.

From traditional attire to contemporary designs, the IMFW24 runways were a vibrant tapestry of styles that captivated audiences and set new standards in the global fashion industry. The two-day fashion show marathon was kicked off with the opening speech of CEO Ozlem Sahin Ertas. Ertas became emotional after receiving flowers from her newborn son on stage, making the audience’s heart melt. Following the speech was the first fashion show by the Turkish designer Hilal Oğuzkan. Her glamorous haute couture collection featured embroidery, sparkles, and bold silhouettes, quickly becoming an audience favorite.

The two modest fashion icons Halima Aden and Rawdah Mohamed graced the runways of IMFW24. Halima Aden walked for the Indonesian brand Buttonscarves, in a unique off-white piece, and the Turkish modest swimwear brand Marina, wearing a blue printed burkini with a kimono. Rawdah Mohamed, on the other hand, walked for the Turkish label Imannoor, in a silk piece with contrasting colors. Additionally, both of them had their individual talk shows where they answered questions and shared their stories, receiving great interest from the audience and media.

Two brands showcased their collections with social media figures as their muse. The Australian label Akkoia showcased their botanical-themed ready-to-wear collection and had the influencer Fatma Husam on the runway. The Turkish label Hukka Design also showcased their colorful ready-to-wear collection and had the influencer Niki Shah as their musel.

Palestinian haute couture label Sineen was the guest of honor of the IMFW24 runways and had one of the most anticipated collections of the event. The brand showcased its “From Dust to Light Collection” featuring colors of the Palestinian flag. The Bangladeshi designer Niharika Momtaz impressed the audience with her couture collection, featuring a variety of colors in feminine silhouettes with furs and sparkles. The Emirati designer Rabail Riaz also showcased her couture collection full of glitz and glamour.

The labels MRGD (Egypt), Serpil Exclusive (Turkey), and Citizens of the World (USA) presented their colorful ready-to-wear collections. MRGD’s collection featured various silhouettes and styles, Serpil Exclusive’s collection featured long loose dresses and suits with tied waists, and Citizens of the World’s collection was full of fun designs and silhouettes.

On the softer, more feminine side, there were two prominent brands: Miha from Turkey and Ahsannazir from Pakistan. Miha’s collection was dreamy, featuring pastels, lace, florals, and bows. Ahsannazir’s collection, on the other hand, was basically a pink dream, featuring long loose satin dresses in every shade of pink.

Fashion By Shehna (UAE), Benang Jarum (Indonesia), Chee (Iran), and Nada Puspita (Indonesia) were the some of the ones with the most unique collections. Fashion By Shehna captivated the audience with their looks complemented by interesting face accessories. Benang Jarum’s collection was a memorable one with big flowers and stripes. Chee’s collection featured historical and traditional elements, and surprised the audience with each look. Nada Puspita’s collection was majestic, featuring muted colors and traditional elements as well.

The Turkish ready-to-wear brand Zems’ collection was also an audience favorite featuring mostly neutral tones with reds and ethnic patterns occasionally. The other Turkish ready-to-wear brands were Terzi Dükkanı and Rafaello. Terzi Dükkanı showcased a collection full of neutral tones and timeless silhouettes whereas Rafaello did the same but with touches of fur and leopard.

Lastly, Sedžda Zukorlić (Serbia), Mirah (Canada), and Mishah (South Africa) showcased their couture collections dominated by sparkles and gold. Sedžda Zukorlić’s collection featured traditional Balkan motifs, Mirah’s collection was full of blacks, whites, and golds, and Mishah’s collection featured pops of colors and silvers as well.

The event was attended by many influential social media figures including Soha Taha from UAE, Rania Yehia from Egypt, Fatema Alawadhi from Kuwait, Sisi Da Sliva from France, and Büşra Meşe Yıldırım from Turkey, who were there, supporting and celebrating modest fashion.

As Istanbul Modest Fashion Week 2024 draws to a close, the legacy of this remarkable event will continue to inspire and shape the future of modest fashion worldwide. Looking ahead, they remain committed to fostering creativity, promoting diversity, and advancing the modest fashion industry on a global scale.
