3 Tips for Matching Neutral Fashion Colors to Seasons

Neutral colors aren’t the most celebrated in fashion, but they quickly become the admiration of many when correctly matched to the 12-color seasons. In fact, in 2022, neutrals were ranked as the most preferred color scheme by U.S. consumers at 70%. Neutrals aren’t just plain and boring; they come in a variety of pleasant tones.

As a color analyst, you can use the numerous complementary color seasons to bring the best of the neutral wardrobe. Below, we look at three tips for matching neutral fashion colors to seasons.

Explore the Refreshing Beauty of Light Spring

Light Springs possesses some of the most delicate but easily distinguishable features. They are light-skinned with a touch of soft peach and creamy porcelain. Eyes are equally noticeable with a ring of blue or green and a brilliance added to them. Their blond-colored hair is commonly platinum to dark with a touch of strawberry, red, or gold.

If you fall under the Light Spring color season, you could rightly fancy neutral colors that accentuate your fashion and turn people’s eyes anywhere you go. Light Springs mostly pairs perfectly with warm tones and high-contrast neutral colors, including denim, nude, cognac, camel, and tawny. However, you can still use medium neutrals like cream and ivory from popular stores like Grey State Apparel, but keep them in small doses. And while at it, steer clear of white and black, as these are too stark and high-contrast for your color season.

Exploit the Brilliance of Warm Spring

You’re evidently a Warm Spring if you’re consistently drawn to yellow and true orange, and you can’t resist the colors of spring flowers. Warm Springs fit in the pure season category and are only distinguished by value and chroma from the other true warm season of Autumn. Skin is creamy peach and soft porcelain with beige characteristics in this color season. The eyes are mostly green, blue, or amber, with a blonde hair color family that likely has strawberry tones and red.

As for matching neutral colors, brown and navy will swiftly replace black, as black and white are no-go neutrals in the Warm Spring season. White should be replaced by ivory, while nude, olive, and camel come in handy as colored neutrals for lighting up your Warm Spring wardrobe. You can get creative with the colors, combining them light against darker shades for more warm spring neutral-color options.

Get the Most of Light Summer

Light summer and light spring are similar in most aspects; only that light summer color season needs cool tones. As a Light Summer, your skin tends to be very light compared to the rest of the population, with cool beige or ivory variations. While the typical eye color is light green or blue, a gray eye is also possible for Light Summers. Hair is dark blonde to light platinum with no traces of red or gold highlights.

As with the spring tones, black and white are out when picking neutrals to match Light Summer. You would want to get gray and soft navy instead of black and soft white to replace optic white. To further boost color options, soft blush, light sage, and silver should do the onus.

Matching neutrals to color seasons shouldn’t be as complicated as it sounds. Once you understand your color season, you should easily choose the neutral colors that go with it for a classy, fashionable pair.
