More Info. and Fun Pre-Miami Swim Week

Miami Swim Week happens every July. For the 2018 season (happening in July 2017: you know the drill), the shows have been scheduled for July 20 to July 25.

Swim Week acts as a platform for building relationships, launching various swimwear products and connecting buyers with suppliers in a friendly atmosphere.

One fixture of Swim Week, the Swim Show — held by the Swimwear Association of Florida — is hosted at the Miami Beach Convention Center. With participators from more than 60 countries spanning the world, it is a mega show that attracts more than 3,000 buyers to come, see, and buy the latest swimwear styles.

2017’s Shows Will Be Special

Embracing new trends and giving people exemplary swim wear designs for over three decades, the Swim Show will be completely different this year, with more than just swimwear. The organizers have invited major artists, designers, and other fashion icons to come and entertain people during the events.

A Bit Different From Last Year’s Events

Last season, people were given the opportunity to interact face to face with the designers of various swimwear products, and they had the opportunity to ask questions and give their views regarding the products. This time it will be different, as there will be a VIP service where people will sit in the same raw with the designers and test swimwear products first before others buy. Don’t miss this one, as it’s going to be a one-of-a-kind show, considering that services like champagne butler service, private lounge area, and Wi-Fi access will be available.

Arrangement of Events

From Saturday to Tuesday every 9:00am – 10:30am daily there will be breakfast in various lavish restaurants. You can enjoy breakfast as you wait for the intense activities of the event to kick off. Various kinds of dishes are normally served, but if you need something specific, you can request that it get prepared for you. On Sunday, there will be the Exhibitor seminar where people will be taught on the various legal issues affecting the swimwear fashion industry. On 3:30pm – 4:30pm Daily from Saturday to Tuesday, there will be the High Tea period where people will drink tea as they relax after participating in various activities. People will be at the Swim Lounge on Saturday and Monday evenings 6:00pm – 7:30pm where they will enjoy private swimming.

The shows are well organized and arranged to ensure that every attender is individually addressed and entertained. From accommodation, meals to your transportation to various destinations, the organizers have it all under control.

What Are Resort Fashion Shows And When Do They Occur?

There are an increasing number of fashion weeks around the world. One of the most confusing parts of fashion shows for shoppers is the dates of the various weeks and why stores start selling the next season’s items in the middle of the current season.

What Are Swim / Resort Shows?

The term “resort” comes from its origins in Old French, to “go out again,” as resort collections were designed for people who were going to be traveling to warm areas to escape colder climes. While the rise of Internet shopping has made buying seasonal clothing easier, many brands still have resort fashion shows. In fact, they’re becoming more popular as awareness of fashion week itself grows.

Today, resort fashion shows are not really about showing lines that are meant to be taken traveling. However, there a few lines that still create collections with that goal in mind. Instead, most fashion brands use resort fashion weeks to show their “pre-collections.” These collections are very important for fashion brands because most pieces in a pre-collection are designed to be more wearable pieces — as in the case of Louis Vuitton using similar embellishments on a dress for autumn/winter and an oversized sweater in the resort line. There are many other examples of this, and you can easily see the continuing patterns, especially if you compare a fashion week show to a resort show.

“Pre-collections” are also meant to bridge the gap between the time fall/winter clothes go on sale, and before spring lines are fully released. This is why you will see a mixture of heavy and light fabrics and different cuts and styles in these fashion shows. These are also the collections that are available for sale the longest amount of time, due to the release dates.

When Do Resort Fashion Shows Take Place?

Resort fashion shows are on a different schedule than other fashion weeks. Most times, the fall/winter fashion weeks take place in February and March, and September is the home of the spring/summer fashion weeks.

Most brands host their resort fashion shows during summer. However, we are seeing more brands having two resort fashions show a year. The time period of November to January is becoming the other popular time to show resort wear and other “pre-collections.” The release date of most resort lines is around mid-November, but this date may change depending on the store and the brand.

Resort fashion was originally intended to showcase clothing that you would take on vacation. This is why resort fashion shows have different dates from many fashion weeks. These fashion shows can include everything from sneak peeks of the spring/summer lines and swimsuits to heavier spring clothing. Over the years, resort and swim fashion shows have become more about bridging the gap between fall/winter and spring/summer.

Brands to Watch at Miami Swim Week

What brands should you watch out for at Miami Swim Week? Here are just a few:

Jade Swim

This swim label was launched by Marie Claire’s senior fashion market editor, Brittany Kozerski. She included simple pieces that focused on the silhouette. The pieces also included fabric that shapes the body in order to smooth out any imperfections. Brittany admitted that she took on the project during a very busy season, but she noted that there is no time like the present.

Monica Hansen Beachwear

As a former model, Monica also broke into the scene with her collection as a newbie. Her focus was on the 1970s hippies movement and on pieces were made in Italy.

For Love and Lemons

This is another brand to look out for at Miami Swim Week. With a vast use of bridal and neutral undertones, For Love and Lemons also maximizes on beautiful one-pieces with high cuts, cutouts, and lace.

Malia Jones Collection<

The Metallic Moment wowed through its use of simple yet subtle metallics and structured styles. The ability to turn something that people would shy away from into something that people fall over themselves to buy is a gift. That is why Malia Jones in such a force to be reckoned with.

Ward Whillas

Ward Whillas once again stunned with reversible swimwear that is both functional and fun recommended you read. The line came in with new impressive cuts that set a trend for swimwear lovers. With this kind of reputation, Ward Whillas is one to watch this upcoming Swim Week.

Solid and Striped

This brand always has new ways to surprise us at Miami Swim Week. The Need for Neon collection incorporated neon colors mixed up with deep luxe colors, to add a playful side to their signature striped look. Keep an eye on this brand as well.

Lonely Label

The “ribbed swim” look featured high-waist silhouettes that were simple and chic. This collection from Lonely had pieces that incorporated lycra fabric and lace up tops and backs. This brand is one to watch at next swim week.

Miami Swim Week presents creative designers and brands that set global trends for swimwear. It gets better every year, and though it is not open-to-the-public, that should not dissuade anyone from following the fun one way or another (esoecially when it comes to after-parties!).

And if you’re looking to update your summer look by upgrading your swimwear, keep an eye on Swim Week so you can see all the upcoming trends.

Miami Swim Week has a rich history, according to the writer who penned this simply amazing article. So here goes ….

The first ever event was held back in 1989 and it was organized by Jimmy Woodman, who is currently working as the founder of Active.com. The event was started in conjunction with the Florida Sports Magazine. The event became a success and it was continued till 1998 successfully. However, the event stopped after 1998 and was restored by 2005. Miami Sports International, which is a subsidiary of the Swim Gym Aquatics, played a major role behind restoring the event. This organization was led by the fourth year captain of the University of Florida Swimming Team, Jonathan Strauss.

Miami Swim has been a number of things, including an open water swimming event held in Florida every year. The last occurrence of this event took place back in 17th of April, 2016. The event was owned and organized by the H2O foundation, which is working with the mission of eradicating drowning that takes place in South Florida.

The primary objective behind Miami Swim Week was to bring open water swimming into the forefront of the aquatic sports. Parties and Shows of Last Miami Swim Week

0

Life’s a Beach at Swim Week

During Miami Swim Week, a large number of parties and shows are organized throughout South Beach. They offer an amazing experience to guests, and there’s something for everyone to take part and enjoy. Here’s a brief overview of some of the parties and shows that were held at last Miami Swim Week.

Of all the parties organized at last Swim Week, MIAMI Magazine’s 8th-Annual SPLASHION received some of the most attention. In this party, Uncle Luke and Yes Julz teamed up to host one of the most-attended parties at Swim Week. It was an invite-only party, but a decent crowd came out to enjoy every moment of the event.

The Lazy Sunday BBQ was another popular party, which was celebrated by people at last year’s Miami Swim Week. It was held at the 40 Island Avenue in Miami Beach. This was an ideal event for individuals who were looking forward to taking part in a more relaxed party. People who attended this party also got the opportunity to explore the luxury of the Miami Beach Hotel.

The Beach Bunny Swimwear afterparty with Voco was held on Washington Avenue. To purchase an entrance ticket to this party, people had to pay between $20 and $40. This was the official party organized by Beach Bunny, and it happens every year. A few celebrities even turned up to enjoy a bottle or two.

The Aloha! Sunset Party was another impressive event held at the last year’s Miami Swim Week. This party was held in the last day of Miami Swim Week. As a result, a large number of guests turned up. The sunset party was dedicated to individuals who have been struggling with a bikini diet for the past few weeks. It’s the last day of Swim Week, so they can eat anything they like. In other words, the guests will not have to worry about anything until they turn up at Swim Week 2018. For an entrance ticket of $45, people were provided with access to the all-you-can-eat section. This section included charred pineapple salads, roasted pigs, and many other food items, which can make the guests feel both proud and bloated. Seating arrangements were organized alongside the pool.

The Swim Miami Kickoff party was another fête held at last year’s event. It was hosted along with the assistance of Vikina Lopez and Kent Jones. This was an RSVP via email event, which was held on South Beach’s Collins Avenue. People who attended got the opportunity to rub elbows with the Swim Week elite.

Apart from the resort and swim looks in evidence, it was filled with music for guests to enjoy. Vikina Lopez kept the crowd alive throughout the party as well.

For more information on this upcoming July’s events, stay tuned!

Life’s a Beach: Pop-Up Shops During Miami Swim Week

Life’s a Beach: Pop-Up Shops During Miami Swim Week

Miami Swim Week is the largest swimwear show in the world. People from around the world take a trip to Miami Beach, not just to watch the runway shows or to get some sun, but to visit the pop-up shops of designers and fashion houses at the shows. Since Miami Swim Week is also a trade show, you can find amazing deals if you are willing to look closely. Here are some areas that offer pop-up shops where you can shop.

Funkshion

Funkshion is the longest running event in Miami Swim Week, which started in 2003. In the past, Funkshion was the only runway tent that was on South Beach. However, Swim Miami also had a tent on South Beach in 2016. Funkshion is still the largest tent show with two runways, a lounge, and a KYBOE pop-up shop inside. Many other pop-up shops can be found nearby since most of the events are not open to the public.

Dive

Dive is a younger show because it is only in its third year. Dive is different compared to other shows because the show is run by a former producer of Made Fashion Week in New York, which helps launch new labels and misfit brands. There are shows for both ladies and men’s wear during the Dive show. A pop-up shop carrying a variety of brands is normally open during and after the show. This makes it easy for you to buy the pieces that you saw on the runway. It should be noted that most years, the pop-up shop is only open in the afternoon and closes around 9pm.

Where to Find Pop-up Shops?

Along with the pop-up shops at the runway shows, there are some brands that host their own pop-up shops. These usually include local boutiques and fashion brands like As a Boutique, which had a pop-shop in one of the luxury hotels in Miami.

If you are looking for pop-up shops that are open to the public, your best option is to look for events and shows that are not invitation only. Most private events only allow the event guests to shop at their pop-shop, so most only have one or two shops.

Public events and areas around them will most times have large numbers of shops because they are trying to sell both their new lines and older pieces. This is where many brands get their start and make most of their money. It is common to see still photographers and fashion magazine editors at public pop-up shops, so they can find new designers who have amazing styles.

If you are planning on shopping at pop-up shops, you should make sure that you have both cash and credit cards with you. Even though some shops only take cash, many other shops now take credit cards.

Shopping at Miami Swim Week is a unique experience because you are shopping alongside fashion buyers and celebrities. Most pop-up shops at Miami Swim Week will have pieces that were shown in the runway shows along with other new pieces.

Miami Swim Week Show Registration

0

Miami Swim Week is one of the biggest and most popular shows that take place every year. Swim week is highly anticipated by lovers of swimwear and other industry bigwigs. This is because the event provides the basis for summer’s trends. Like every other fashion week, it provides designers with the opportunity to showcase their newest ideas and designs on the runway in a bid to introduce or reintroduce trends to the world of swimwear.

How Do You Register?

Miami Swim Week registration is open to buyers, vendors and the press. To register for the event, visit the official website and fill in your details on the spaces provided. After you have confirmed that the information you filled is correct, go ahead and submit it. This year’s show is supposed to take place in June and registering early is important. Some of the benefits of early registration include:

Securing a Slot

Attendance is never guaranteed. You may want to cover swim week as a member of the press, but if you register late, you may not get a pot. You may also want to set up a stand to sell your wares but end up missing space because you registered late. If you sign up early enough, the event organizers are able to secure a place for you in good time. Miami Swim Week is one of the most popular swimwear events in the world, and it happens once a year. It attracts many attendees including the who’s who in the industry. Securing a spot early enough will save you from the hassle of trying to find a place last minute. This helps them with organization of the event to have a more fluid and seamless event.

Runway Shows

Runway shows are not guaranteed. There are very specific high profile brands that get to showcase their designs. The only way to get to showcase your designs on the runway is to register early in advance and follow up with the organizers to find out if you could feature some of your wares on the runway.

For Personal Planning

Once you register, you will be compelled to block out the dates of the event and slot everything else around those dates. This will help you to organize your schedule and deny you the chance to flake out of going to the event, especially if there are no high stakes for you. If you are a vendor, you get to organize your models, staff, and vendors and prepare them for the big event. Late registration poses the threat of being unable to attend swim week, and so no one would proceed with organizing their showcase without having registered. It is only logical.

Miami Swim Week is a big deal for gurus in the fashion industry, specifically those who are more invested in swimwear. In order to attend one has to register. The good thing about the registration process is that it is online and does not require a lot from you. It is, therefore, advisable to register early enough if you would like to attend swim week as a vendor or a buyer.

Who Produces Miami Swimwear Shows?

0

Miami Swim Week is one of the biggest fashion events in every calendar year. It provides a platform for buyers and sellers to interact. It also hosts fashion shows to showcase what is new in swimwear in order to influence global trends of the same.

Who Organizes Swimwear Shows?

IMG was the organizer of swimwear shows for a very long time. They worked hand in hand with LDJ, Funkshion, and Feinberg. IMG organized the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. However, IMG pulled out a month to the show in 2015 and has not been back since.

Effects of IMG’s Pullout

IMG’s move left participants in something of a frenzy. Until that last minute pull out, IMG had reassured participants that everything was fine and that they would be there along the way, only to turn around and abandon the show. Some who were supposed to showcase their products were hesitant to continue with the show. In fact, some major brands such as ‘We Are Handsome’ opted to sit out of the runway shows. This is because different events were scheduled for the same time but in different locations and hotels.

This meant that the attendance for each show would be significantly low compared to other years. In previous years, the major runway shows were held at the Raleigh Hotel in Miami in either one of two tents or the penthouse to avoid overlapping of the events. ‘We Are Handsome’ did not consider the move so crucial that it would hurt their bottom line. After all, most people are there for the trade shows so they would still be able to accomplish a lot.

LDJ has also worked alongside IMG for the New York Fashion Week. The organizer, alongside Feinberg and Funkshion, felt the pinch of IMG leaving and at such a crucial hour. The organizers of this fashion shows did try their best to hold the weight, and the event went off, albeit different from previous editions.
The Return of IMG

IMG was expected to return in 2016. Many were quoted expressing their hope that IMG was going to come back and that they would do it bigger and better in a way that would knock your socks off. Contrary to these reports, IMG still sat out of Miami Swim Week in 2016. However, the show was better and not filled with tension like that of the previous year because LDJ, Feinberg, and Funkshion had already put the necessary measures in place. The runway shows were more coordinated, and well l thought out.

IMG is no longer the backbone of Miami Swim Week. No one knows whether the producer will ever come back to the swim week scene. The other organizers have been able to pull their weight for the past two years, and it is expected that they will keep doing as much in days to come. Participants are also getting accustomed to IMG’s distinct lack of presence. However, swim week is more about the trade shows, and these have been largely unaffected. The fashion shows, however, will need some fine tuning as years progress.

Predictions about Virtual Reality Use in Fashion Shows

Predictions about Virtual Reality Use in Fashion Shows

Virtual reality has come a long way. It is no longer conceptual only. It has been introduced into the market and consumers are more than ready to invest in a headset if it promises to augment their view of reality. The uses of VR headsets are limitless. So far, the headsets are being used for gaming and watching movies using mobile phones and gaming systems. The use of these headsets has been growing into other areas as well. The fashion industry has not been left behind on this trend.

Different Options to Choose From

Different companies have been manufacturing VR headsets. These companies include Microsoft and Google, to mention but a few. You can now choose from: The Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR Headset and the Microsoft HoloLens. These are all high quality and pioneer VR headsets.

One of the challenges facing Virtual Reality is motion sickness. While some companies claimed to have eliminated this, the truth is that the challenge will always be there for some people. The solution that most headsets have come up with is simple. They have reduced the lag that occurs between the movement in one’s head and actual movement as depicted through the headset.

VR in Fashion Shows

Fashion shows also plan on moving along with technology. The VR headsets should be put into use soon. Some designers and shows have already incorporated this technology. Some examples include:

· The use of VR in boutiques to see behind the scenes during runway shows
· The use of the headsets to screen makeup tutorials

These headsets will carry out different function sin the future including:

· Watching fashion shows on the headset from the comfort of your home as opposed to being there for the event and buying expensive tickets
· Creating virtual runways so that everyone with a headset is able to virtually attend the show
· Anticipating how some clothes will look on you as a model walks down the runway. This will also allow you to order the item during the show and have it shipped directly to you without having to go through retailers

The advantage of virtual reality in fashion is that it will enable anyone with a headset to have access to these often exclusive fashion shows.

Challenges of Using Headsets for Fashion

These future predictions face major challenges from Fashionistas. Some crave the atmosphere that is present during fashion shows. The assumption is that having a virtual show will rob them of this benefit. They will not be able to feed off the energy during these shows. Designers and fashion show organizers are therefore at an impasse: to get in line with technology or to maintain the traditional way of doing things that people prefer.

Virtual reality has many capabilities. The rest of the world is moving towards this technology, and the fashion industry needs to fall in line as well. It would be interesting to see just how far VR could take fashion shows.

Santillo 1970 Interview: “Slow Tailoring” and the World’s Best (Handmade) Shirts

Santillo 1970: “Slow Tailoring” and the Modern Age

Consider it a backlash of sorts. Beneath the ultra-affordability of “fast fashion” (which we’re no strangers to ourselves), there’s been a renewed interest in “bespoke” and hand-crafted clothing. These aren’t clothes that you wear one season and forget: this is clothing meant to last many seasons — and meant to say something different about the wearer. Not that you’re “on trend.” But rather, that you are timeless.

When it comes to suits, certain names come to the forefront in terms of Italian craftsmanship: A. Caraceni, N. H. Sartoria, Rubinacci; among others.

But when it comes to shirts — painstakingly handmade, in the oldest traditional style — you may hear the brand “Santillo” bandied about by more than one aspiring or established style icon.

Santillo 1970 was founded in the Calabria region of Southern Italy in 1968, when Mrs. Angela Lemma opened a small workroom in Catanzaro, then passing the baton to her three children — Gennaro, Annaluce, and Saverio — who continue the family tradition today.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Gennaro and his brother Saverio at their showroom in Milano, where they very passionately spoke about their love for shirtmaking, the creation of their most recent collection “Patrimonio 1970,” their family, and their expectations for the future.

Santillo 1970

[portfolio_slideshow id=13683 align=center width=600 click=advance thumbnailsize=40 showcaps=false]

Q: Hello Gennaro, thank you for joining us here at FWO.

Thank you Laura for your pleasant interview.

Q: This all began with your mother Angela, and your father Giovanni Santillo. Together they created the family business Santillo 1970. What was it like growing up in the household with such passion for shirtmaking?

My mother is a great woman, with a lot of passion for her job as well as a very ethical approach.

And she still has the same passion she had when she started out: as well as so much love for her sons and grandchildren. She is by far the best seamstress in the world; she can create a model fit for our clients just by looking, without any measurements or knowing their size. This due to her 50 years of experience creating handmade shirts.

She can create a model fit just by looking at a client.

I grew up in a tailor’s. My favorite games were to cut the material with huge scissors — many times by utilizing textiles that were ready to be used! My mother used to get angry at me [he laughs]. But I was too young to understand that. For me the tailor store was my playground, and my tools were my toys. What wonderful childhood memories!

My favorite games were to cut the material with huge scissors.

Q: What does Santillo 1970 represent to you in your heart?

Santillo is not only a trademark, but it’s my family name. It’s a huge responsibility to carry on this business with my brothers and especially a third generation tradition.

Q: Having a business organized by family members must have its ups and down. At the end of the day, how do you resolve those differences?

Santillo 1970 is a family run enterprise, but it follows trade, development rules, and regulations, just like a more structurally complex company. The members of the family add value to the company. Execution and ideas are our common goal.

My father Giovanni deals with the administrative sector, while Saverio takes care of cutting and preparing models; Annaluce of the preparation and the sewing, and I’m in charge of the commercial aspect. We work everyday, together, as a team, discussing every single decision.

We work everyday as a team, discussing every single decision.

Q: What is the force that has kept the family business together for almost 50 years?

The love toward this job and the absolute uniqueness of our shirts and blouses.

The absolute uniqueness of our shirts and blouses.

Q: You have two sons who have shown a great interest in the business at such a young age. Are you hoping your boys follow in your footsteps and carry on the family business?

Yes I have two sons, Mattia five years old and Luca, three-and-a-half years old, who have tailoring in their DNA.

It couldn’t have been otherwise. Mattia himself chooses the textiles for his fitted shirts, while Luca adores yellow and bases his choices on his favorite color: their minds are really made up.

I leave them free to do whatever is best for their personalities. Then if they decide one day to pursue this career, that would make me very happy. But first they need to study and acquire some experience.

Q: What is the process in shirtmaking: from the beginning of the creation, clip and customization, to the most popular collar style and color?

We begin with cutting the shirt once, both for bespoke and RTW. Every single part of it is handmade: collar, cuffs, etc.

Afterward we start working on the ironing board, sewing, flat fell seam, buttonhole, and finally the ironing and folding.

Dean Denim” and “Connery” in white are our bestsellers.

Every single part of it is handmade.

Q: This year you launched the “Patrimonio 1970” collection. Please tell us the inspiration and creation behind of one of my favorite Santillo collections?

Patrimonio represents love for the land of our roots, Calabria. The results of this connection to our work is seen through the use of an ancient technique dating back to the Magna Graecia [8th Century B.C.] era: such as using old looms and the crochet embroidery.

We use a technique dating back to the Magna Graecia era.

Q: Honestly I think all of your shirts are my favorite; but we all have our favorite favorite, which for me are “Dean Denim,” the luxury handmade white shirt, the “Sea Island Cotton Shirt” and the “Positano Vintage” … to name a few. Customers are able to order directly from the website from bespoke suits, shirts and accessories. What is the ordering process for a customer who cannot come directly to your showroom in Milan?

Online our clients — in any part of the world — can purchase our RTW models designed with the same particularities of bespoke.

Our clients — in any part of the world — can purchase our RTW models.

For this reason we have created a new word, “slow tailoring.” Bespoke means that both the the customer and the tailor are in the same place.

We are very interested in the USA market; in fact we have lot of U.S. clients who shop online, especially from New York City. We are planning to be more present in the USA market by opening a store.

It’s a combination of resources: philosophy, details, the fit and fine textiles. Our vision concerning the product and the classic idea of elegance.

We have created a new word, “slow tailoring.”

Q: Will you be launching a women’s collection in the near future?

Yes! We will create a women’s RTW capsule collection inspired by the fashion icons Audrey Hepburn and Jaqueline Kennedy.

We’re creating a women’s capsule collection inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Jaqueline Kennedy.

Q: What sets Santillo 1970 apart from other shirtmakers?

The passion and background, in addition to perfection. Our creations are the result of research of old textiles and models updated to a man’s need for practicality and versatility.

Q: Where do you see Santillo 1970 in the future?

To have our creations in the world’s best department stores.

Thank you Laura for the wonderful interview!
