What happens if a fur coat gets wet?
Nothing. Although the quality of our coat in these cases is very important.
We simply let it dry naturally. What do I mean by this? We will never put it near a heat source such as stoves or hot air appliances. We will only hang it on a wide hanger (so that the shoulders are not deformed) and hang it where the garment is loose. Once dry we will simply lift the hair gently taking the garment by the armholes and shaking it. This will loosen the hair.
What happens in these cases if the quality is low?
Very simply, the quality of a fur garment is not only in the quality of the hair. The way it has been tanned, worked, and finished also has a great influence. In all these processes it is essential not to skip any step. A very common technique in low-cost garments is to stretch them to the maximum when pinning them in order to use as little leather as possible. What happens with this? In the event that it gets wet, it can shrink up to two sizes, as the effect of the water will return it to its original size. Please, when buying a leather garment, demand a minimum quality. Price should not be the key factor when choosing, think about the decades you have left to enjoy your mink coats. Trust in reputable firms and be wary of false offers.
