The coolest sportswear collection at NYFW featured dozens of pint-sized models with the Chinese mega brand, ANTA Kids in collaboration with Opening Ceremony. The three part show highlighted the newest collections for ANTA Kids that closely integrate technology and design: the three collections presented on the runway were Energy Capsule, X Evolution and Playmaker. The idea behind the SS20 fashion show was to design concepts from children’s perspectives to both, present and explain children’s leading fashion. The set was inspired by Olympic metal podiums and featured celeb kids and child phenom breakdancers. The colorful, vibrant and unique sportswear designs dawned on front row guests like Candice Swanepoel, Alessandra Ambrosio and their mini’s while fellow supermodel, Coco Rocha hit the runway with her daughter in a matching red and white sportswear set.

The runway show featured edgy streetwear pieces in bright, neon colors with orange accents on almost every piece continuing a theme of orange that seems to be permeating New York Fashion Week runways. The collection had a 90’s hip hop street style vibe that would make Will Smith a’ la “Fresh Prince of Bel Aire” proud. Nylon belted jackets gave way to undershirts that popped in color and matching sneakers with velcro straps. From basketball to tennis and skiing to hockey, the mini models rocked sportswear looks like matching velour shorts and tank tops and jacket hoods buttoned onto ski goggles. Every look was accessorized with ANTA Kids gear like duffle bags, crossbody bags, branded socks, headbands, helmets and bucket hats.

As one of the first brands to tap into China’s domestic sportswear market, ANTA kids has been dedicated to providing professional children sports products and apparel that are both years ahead of trends, but also technology. The X Evolution collection featured technology in footwear that helps stabilize pressure into the soles of its shoes, while a smart chip tightens the shoe via an A-FIIIX system – to give consumers a self-tying shoe.

The Playmaker X Origins collection was designed together with Opening Ceremony. “In order to accomplish the futuristic aspect of this collection, we invested a lot of resources on the technology used in our products, some of which are industry breakthroughs with eye-catching features,” said the designer of ANTA Kids, Jiang Wei. “Using fiber optic technology, our high-tech dual layered fabric can emit light. The outer layer absorbs surrounding light and using fiber optics, creates a futuristic visual effect, while the inner layer is a mixture of cotton and bamboo charcoal fiber, providing comfort to the wearer,” Jiang continued.

All in all, the sportswear fashion on the runway was a welcome addition to NYFW encouraging the next generation of consumers to look to the catwalk for what will be on trend and stylish for next spring. Chen Dujia is ANTA Kids’ Senior Designer of Footwear, and the runway show was styled by industry stylist, Jenny Haapala.
