Paraiso Miami Beach
“PARAISO Miami Swim Week holds the same significance in the world of swimwear fashion as Art Basel does in contemporary art. Over the past two decades, the event has not only expanded its scope but has also increased its visibility,” says Natalija Dedic Stojanovic, Creative Director and co-Founder.
With favorite events such as the Summer Fashion Summit returning in collaboration with SwimShow, exciting, never-before-seen partnerships between Colombiamoda and Miami Design District, as well as a wellness focused collaboration between Heroine Sport and Allegra Paris, expanded categories showcased throughout the week, this year’s PARAISO Miami Swim Week was unlike any other, creating an unforgettable summer fashion festival for all.
“We will continue to balance categories as we see best fit, embrace growth by dedicating in the future full days to lingerie and activewear categories.” says Natalija Dedic Stojanovic. “Our vision was always of finding a balance between various fashion categories that all together encompass a well-rounded summer lifestyle, and we’ll continue to do so.”
SUMMER FASHION SUMMIT
Experiencing the pinnacle of industry innovation at the Summer Fashion Summit, the premier conference was dedicated to exploring the latest trends and breakthrough ideas shaping the landscape of the swimwear market, sustainability, marketing, and manufacturing. This exclusive event included insightful discussions, dynamic networking opportunities, and invaluable insights that propelled business to new heights. The event was made possible thanks to the support of St. Thomas University and Mana Fashion Services.
Colombiamoda hosted a fashion talk with Agua Bendita, and also hosted a trunk show featuring eight Colombian brands and a performance by Piso 21.
SHARPIE
This year PARAISO Miami Beach teamed up with Sharpie® to work alongside fashion designers and art students to design art-inspired apparel with the new Sharpie Creative Markers that feature paint-like, no-bleed ink.
EXCITING OFF-SITE EXPERIENCES
The swim week special events have been hosted in outside venues as well, from pristine beaches to chic poolside retreats and upscale restaurants, each location serving as a breathtaking canvas for the celebration of fashion and style. This year’s off-site locations included W South Beach, Miami Design District, Soho House, The Miami Beach EDITION, 1111 Lincoln Road, The Standard Spa Miami Beach, Bey_Bey, The Plymouth, Sophia Design District, and Esme, among others.
ISTITUTO MARANGONI UPCYCLE CHALLENGE
Paraiso and Istituto Marangoni Miami partner for the swim-upcycle challenge to bring five finalists to swim week’s main stage and raise awareness on fashion sustainability.
Reputable swimwear brands Agua Bendita, Beach Riot, Riot Swim, Guess Inc., and Luli Fama donated dead-stock fabric and mentored five student designers from Istituto Marangoni Miami who presented their looks at PARAISO Miami Beach on Friday, 5/31.
The student finalists were matched with participating swimwear labels and were chronicled mentoring sessions with representatives from each brand. Maria Camila Cabrera Ruiz will be mentored by Luli Fama, Mariana Jimenez by Beach Riot, Juan Vargas by Guess Inc., Rotem Bensaadon by Agua Bendita, and Daniel Uribe by Riot Swim.
The goal of the challenge is to teach students how to reduce the negative environmental impact of creating virgin fabrics by utilizing dead-stock materials. This was done in the hope that design students will be encouraged to implement the process in their future work, in an industry where sustainable practices are becoming the new normal.
“Seeing the final pieces come to life on the runway is truly a thrill for us at Paraiso,” stated Natalija Dedic Stojanovic, co-founder and creative director of Paraiso. “By partnering with Istituto Marangoni Miami on the Swim Up-cycle Challenge this year, Paraiso is encouraging young designers to focus on sustainable design that doesn’t sacrifice style or luxury.”
Istituto Marangoni Miami’s president and founder Hakan Baykam echoes the statement. “At a time when the future of fashion is indisputably influenced by new advancements in sustainable practices that are in sync with the environment, this partnership creates an opportunity to enrich IMM’s students with knowledge and expertise in using up-cycled fabrics to create pieces that make an impact fashion and the world we live in.”
On Friday, May 31st, during day 2 of Paraiso Miami Beach, the designers will present two looks each to an industry jury consisting of:
Ivy Heilman, Senior Buyer for Intimates, Swim and Active at Anthropologie
Keili Leahy, Senior Buyer at Urban Outfitters
Gina Lazaro, Vice President of Sharpie
Madison Rexroat, ELLE Magazine
The winning designer was chosen based on ability to create two swimwear looks using only up-cycled materials, overall wearability, creativity, and construction.
