“1930’s Shanghai: Paris of the East, New York of the West” by SHAO New York
SHAO New York is pleased to unveil the latest collection for Fall/Winter 2025 titled, “1930’s Shanghai: Paris of the East, New York of the West,” which debuted at New York Fashion Week on February 10th, 2025.
The presentation featured a cast consisting of exclusively AAPI models and took place at House of the Red Pearl, an elegant and intimate venue nestled within the Tin Building by Jean-Georges.
Inspired by the golden age of 1930s Shanghai, the collection captures the intoxicating fusion of cultures, fashion, and history that transformed the city into an emblem of cosmopolitan glamour. Designer Shao Yang delves into this era’s rich heritage, blending traditional Chinese elements with Western sartorial tailoring and contemporary New York streetwear. The result is a bold narrative that celebrates cultural collision, gender fluidity, and timeless elegance.

“The Fall / Winter 2025 collection celebrates the electricity of cultural blending, reinterpreted for today,” says Shao Yang, SHAO New York’s founder & designer. “Every piece in the collection was designed to showcase the delicate balance and tension between tradition and rebellion, propriety and danger—all feelings that resonated throughout Shanghai in the 1930s.”
In collaboration with DataVault, SHAO New York integrated cutting-edge holographic technology to elevate the storytelling. Highlights included a holographic parlor singer, intricate projection displays showcasing embroidery and pleat details, and interactive engagement features powered by DataVault’s ADIO® technology. These innovations created a multi-sensory experience, seamlessly merging traditional craftsmanship with futuristic artistry.
Beauty looks for the show were created by Ted Gibson as the key hair lead and Romero Jennings as the key makeup lead for MAC Cosmetics.
