Puppets and Puppets Fall Winter 2020 Runway Show

Artists Carly Mark and Ayla Argentina showcased Puppets and Puppets’ Fall/Winter 2020 collection at the iconic Prince George Ballroom in New York City.

For season 3 of Puppets and Puppets, the brand paid homage to the illustrations of french cartoonist Jean Giraud, also known as Moebius. Moebius worked in the Franco-Belgian bandes dessinées tradition, garnering acclaim for his Western themed illustrations.

As well, Moebius worked with Chilean-French filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky on his incomplete adaptation of Frank Herbert’s infamous sci-fi novel, Dune.

Moebius later went on to contribute to storyboards of other numerous science fiction and fantasy films, such as Alien, Blade Runner, and Legend. Puppets and Puppets has adapted various characters and costumes from Moebius’ illustration archive into wearable pieces. Silhouettes reflect a futuristic aesthetic, as well as sticking to the brands classic suiting and use of boned understrutures. Fabrics were chosen in order to reflect Moebius’ unique palette in silk, moiré, spandex, and linen. This season is a tribute to Moebius and the prolific imagery he presented in his lifetime.

Carly is a New York based artist who has worked in various mediums including painting, sculpture, and video. Ayla is a New York based fashion designer who studied garment construction.Pulling from their respective fine art and clothing construction backgrounds, Mark and Argentina explore their shared interest in classic storytelling, non-traditional styling, sculptural construction, and character play.
