Oslo Runway and MUNCH Present: Pearl Octopuss.y with the Commissioned Work ‘THE SUN’

A boundary-pushing encounter between fashion and art is set to take place in MUNCH’s Monumental Hall.

As part of our ongoing collaboration with MUNCH, we once again invite a selected designer to challenge the traditional fashion show format.

This time, Pearl Octopuss.y presents its distinctive universe and new collection in the museum’s Monumental Hall – an exclusive presentation that blurs the lines between fashion and art.

EXPERIENCE THE SUN

In the showcase SOLEN (The Sun), Pearl Octopuss.y creates a visual and artistic narrative reflecting the natural cycle of the sun, from the delicate to the intense. The collection explores contrasts, repetition, balance, and duality-central themes in both Pearl Octopuss.y’s design language and Edvard Munch’s artistic legacy.

Oslo Runway

We started with our first show in 2023, titled AT DAWN. In 2024, we called it ECLIPSE. And now, we move toward the light with THE SUN, explains Cathrine Børter, founder of Pearl Octopuss.y.

Inspired by Munch’s painting The Sun, she aims to craft a story that embraces all the sun symbolizes and its natural rhythms. The collection will reflect this by focusing on contrasts and repetition.

There is a comfort in the consistency of repetition-every day the sun rises, and every day it sets. Life and death. Balance and contrast are core values in our design philosophy, something that is also evident in Munch’s work – from light to dark, masculine versus feminine, delicate to fierce, Børter elaborates.

Letting the Monumental Hall and Munch’s paintings shape the framework for the collection is something truly special.

– This is also a completely different setting from our previous shows, and balancing the space with the collection will be an exciting challenge! says Børter.

Tickets

The music for the presentation will be composed and performed live by Gundelach, an artist and composer known for blending club, ambient, and country into a unique sonic landscape.

In connection with the show, MUNCH and Pearl Octopuss.y have created an exclusive product collaboration – these as well as selected pieces from the collection will be available at MUNCH for a limited time.

At MUNCH, we celebrate cross-disciplinary encounters and distinctive expressions. We are excited to bring Pearl Octopuss.y’s artistic vision to life as MUNCH and Oslo Runway invite the designer to challenge the conventional fashion show through an interdisciplinary collaboration, says Jonas Vebner, Head of Public Programme at MUNCH.

– With Munch’s painting The Sun as inspiration and the powerful Monumental Hall as the venue, the audience can expect a truly unique experience at this year’s Oslo Runway, Vebner adds.
