Mimi Wade Spring / Summer 2020

Mimi Wade Spring / Summer 2020

Represented by The Lobby London.

Mimi Wade’s SS20 Collection ‘Nymph’ is a tongue-in-cheek, camp love letter to softcore cinema and the party girl.

Signature silk satin babydoll dresses are screen printed with Mock ‘Blue Movie’ posters starring Mimi herself in a variety of fairy guises. The tongue-in-cheek titles include “NYMPH’ where we see Mimi resting her head on a tree stump surrounded by beaded flowers and “Fairy Liquid” where Mimi is seen pouring fluorescent green Absynthe from a larger than life champagne saucer.

Images taken by Daniel Sachon are cut out and collaged onto the prints for this season which also include a naked ‘Mimi Fairy’ perching, leaning and hugging a strawberry, digitally printed in full colour onto fleece and silk satin, plus screen printed in black onto hand dyed baby pink silk satin. We see this strawberry motif digitally printed onto updated Mimi Wade signature lace trimmed jersey pieces including a camisole, a long sleeve slash neck top and an original ‘Baby Tee’ surrounded by hand drawn fairies and a slogan which reads ‘Adult Fairy Tales’ in rainbow ombré.

X Rated poster prints also feature on a draped lurex asymmetrical dress, a midnight blue silk crepe babydoll, high neck gathered puff sleeved gathered neck dresses, jersey boob tubes, floor length frilly fleece dressing gown and bed jacket, bias cut scrappy dresses, camisoles and miniskirts adorned with double faced luxurious velvet bows and Sophie Hallette lace trim. This season Mimi introduces new babydoll day dresses on jersey digital and screen printed with hand crochet butterflies, Hungarian style embroidered elasticated waist and cuffs with Sophie Hallette lace trim.

Mimi’s creations are infused with references to her loves, interests and obsessions – this time it’s bondage fairies, La Cicciolina, pageantry and the glitz of turn of the century Texas debutantes, where an image of ‘The Queen the Court of Butterflies’ from 1907 and Mariah Carey’s butterfly top worn to the 2000’s Diva awards inspires a bias lilac hand dyed silk bias skirt with organza appliqué butterfly overlapping the side seam embellished with Swarovski crystals.
