Mattel Creations Presents Barbie and Ken Step Into the Playful World of Jean-Charles De Castelbajac

The legendary French designer unites fashion, art and pop culture in a new Barbie Signature collaboration

Mattel, the leading global toy and family entertainment company, brings together its iconic brand Barbie and legendary French fashion designer and artist Jean-Charles de Castelbajac for a new Barbie Signature collaboration, bringing his instantly recognizable creative universe to the iconic world of Barbie and Ken.

Defined by bold color, playful imagery and an unmistakable sense of imagination, Castelbajac’s aesthetic is reinterpreted through two collectible dolls inspired by some of his most iconic fashion signatures.

Barbie wears a vibrant oversized teddy bear coat adorned with miniature bears, paired with a high-neck T-shirt dress covered in playful Castelbajac-inspired illustrations and finished with denim boots. Ken takes a more minimalist approach in an oversized ivory teddy bear coat, styled with super-baggy dark denim, bright white sneakers and a graphic T-shirt.

Barbie and Ken

Conceived under Mattel Creations, Mattel’s platform for design-led collaborations, the partnership brings together Barbie and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac in a joyful celebration of fashion, art, nostalgia and pop culture. By uniting two creative icons, the collection reflects Mattel Creations’ mission to reimagine beloved brands through unexpected collaborations that inspire collectors and fans alike.

“Working with Barbie and Ken offered a unique opportunity to bring together two worlds built on imagination and creativity. By creating these powerful looks inspired by my career, I wanted to invite Barbie and Ken into my playful and colorful universe, to celebrate art and fashion.”
— Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

“Barbie has always reflected creativity, self-expression and the culture of the moment. Jean-Charles de Castelbajac is one of fashion’s most imaginative voices, making him a natural creative partner for Barbie. Together we’ve created a collection that celebrates individuality, artistic expression and the enduring power of play through fashion.” — Robert Best, Vice President of Barbie Product Design

From collaborations with Miu Miu, Billie Eilish, MoMA and Vexx, Mattel Creations continues to position Mattel’s iconic brands at the intersection of culture, design and collectability, creating limited-edition releases that resonate with fans, collectors and fashion enthusiasts alike.

A PLAYFUL MEETING OF FASHION AND ART

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac first rose to prominence in the late 1970s. By 1987, when he unveiled his now-iconic teddy bear coat, he had already established a distinctive visual language defined by bold color, inventive silhouettes and a playful approach to fashion.

Over the decades, Castelbajac has influenced generations with his joyful, art-driven designs and celebrated collaborations. His ability to merge fashion, art and popular culture makes him a natural creative partner for Barbie and Ken.
