La Perla’s Made-To-Measure Bridal Collection at New York Bridal Week
The La Perla story is one of ingenuity, obsessive craftsmanship, and an almost religious devotion to — and worship of — the female form. Founded in 1954 by corsetry maker Ada Masotti, the brand first pioneered the use of several techniques in lingerie, from 13th century macramé work to Florentine frastaglio (precious flat-stitch embroidery characteristic of eighteenth century spun yarn). Under the creative direction of Alessandra Bertuzzi since 1987, the brand has continued to reinvent itself, staying true to the ideals of Italian craftsmanship while refusing to shy from modern techniques, such as the use of lasers to create the seamless underwear found in La Perla’s Second Skin collection.
Sizzling sex appeal, supreme craftsmanship, and a sense of revolutionary ingenuity are a potent combination, and in the case of La Perla, it translates effortless — and potently — to bridal. We had the privilege of seeing the collection on display in the showroom at 803 Madison Avenue during New York Bridal Week.
The collection truly has to be seen — and felt — to be believed.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the exquisite luminosity and hand of the fabrics. Every element exudes a dreamlike, super-sensual quality, both to the eye and the touch.

On a more macroscopic scale, multiple layers incorporate corsetry, diaphanous hoods, or separates that could go from aisle to night-on-the-town.

Looks range from Elizabethan styling to Audrey Hepburn-era minimalism to hooded dresses vaguely reminiscent of Princess Leia or Grace Jones.
As for luxury and sex appeal, La Perla is without equal. Bras made with 18 karat gold lace and sizzling garter belts are just some of the accessories available at the showroom at 803 Madison Avenue.
