Kim Shui Presents F/W 2019 Runway Show

On Friday, February 8, Kim Shui showcased her Fall Winter 2019 collection in New York City where she explored the boundaries of risque in fashion. Provocative shapes and revealing pieces seem to dominate our social media feeds, but they haven’t translated onto the runway yet. As fashion trends veer towards oversized pieces and prairie dresses, being covered up has been called the female response to #MeToo. This collection celebrates women by embodying femininity and the female body. Designed by a woman, for women, Kim’s pieces bring allure and seduction to the forefront, by being cool, eccentric and sexy. She wants women to know that they have a choice in fashion – sexy being one of them.

Kim Shui was born in the US, and grew up in Rome, Italy. She graduated from Duke University with a double major in Economics and French before pursuing Fashion Design at Central St. Martins where she graduated with Distinction. Growing up in Italy and having lived in the US, UK and France, Shui draws upon her multicultural background to transform and assimilate diverse impressions and techniques. She debuted her first AW16 ready to wear collection at NYFW with VFILES. Her eponymous New York-based womenswear label has since dressed the likes of Kylie Jenner, Solange Knowles, Cardi B, Hennessy Carolina, Azealia Banks, Olivia Palermo, Kali Uchis, Rico Nasty, Maye Musk and more. The brand has collaborated with Jeffrey Campbell Shoes, Urban Outfitters, and Samsung and is available to buy at retailers such as Kith and Maimoun. Kim was named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 List for 2019.
