Inspiramais Highlights Manual Labor in Fashion

The next edition of INSPIRAMAIS, a trade show that reaches its 28th edition by introducing innovative materials for the footwear, clothing, furniture, and jewelry industries, will bring to the forefront the increasing relevance of originality in fashion.

The event, which takes place on July 11th and 12th at the Events Center of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FIERGS) in Porto Alegre, Brazil, will have as its theme the research project “Homo Faber,” highlighting the organic nature and craftsmanship of materials and supplies for the industry in contrast to standardized production.

Walter Rodrigues, the coordinator of the Design and Research Center of the Brazilian Association of Companies in the Leather, Footwear, and Artifacts Components (Assintecal), emphasizes that products are currently in the development phase in companies, which will launch over a thousand materials with the Homo Faber theme at the trade show. Inspired by the work of American sociologist and historian Richard Sennett, who, in his book “The Craftsman,” conducts a historical investigation into the manual labor of artisans from different orders to understand the creative processes involved in a two-way relationship between ideas and materials, highlighting the increasing importance of originality.

In this context, the first subtheme of the research is “Pragmatism,” with products that reveal the essence of materials, indicating a focal point in minimalism where the material transcends the shaping process. “Geometry” is a keyword that inspires patterns and development of shapes reminiscent of geometric forms, indicating reasoning and logic in search of a timeless product.

Craftsmanship

The second subtheme is “Craftsmanship,” the main attribute of the upcoming collections. Here, Rodrigues makes a point of highlighting a designer who has been attracting attention in the national fashion scene, João Maraschin, a finalist for the LVMH Prize who will be present at the trade show. “Sustainable processes are the foundation of his brand, not only from an environmental perspective but also from a social and cultural standpoint. It is a brand that functions as a platform to generate positive impact and a more inclusive, diverse, and fair fashion scenario,” evaluates Rodrigues. The influence of craftsmanship appears strongly as an antithesis to the implementation of artificial intelligence in the fashion industry processes. “At INSPIRAMAIS, we will have craftsmanship represented by Maraschin, a young Brazilian talent who is already attracting attention in the international market,” says the stylist.

The Homo Faber research highlights colors such as Emperador, Cabana Blue, Tuscany, Cayenne, Nocturne, Jade Green, Turbulence, Burnit Sienna, Baroque Rose, and Antler.
