Icy Presents: Dynasty Showcase of Four Emerging Chinese Designers to Open Nyfw Women’s New Business Model Sells $100 Million in Sales
Represented by Agentry PR.
Chinese-based platform ICY will stage a runway show highlighting four emerging Chinese designers at Spring Studios. This showcase will be ICY’s second runway show in New York and will feature Leaf Xia, Eva Xu, HIUMAN, and Fengyi Tan, presenting their spring/summer 2020 collections.
Building off of the “ICY Presents: Palace” showcase held in Shanghai this past February, this collective is named “ICY Presents: Dynasty.” Each designer turned to a different historical Chinese dynasty for inspiration, choosing the period based on the epoch’s distinct artistic style. This stylistic decision was made to highlight traditional Asian culture with a modern update.

ICY Founder YingYing Gu launched the company in 2017 after finding that there was a demand in the Chinese market from people aged 20-35 to support emerging designers and wear the latest trends, however they could not afford the luxury price-point. With the help of investments from the FOSUN Fashion Group, who owns Lanvin and Wolford, and 36Kr Group, the project was made a reality.
The platform identifies designers, as of now all designers has hailed from China, but ICY is looking to expand with American and European designers within the next two years. ICY covers the entire cost of creating the collection, with the exception of the initial sample set and then ICY works with the designers to create a diffusion line. Akin to the publishing model, the designers receive payment based on sales of each item on the site with ICY maintaining the copyright in a joint venture with the designer. This collaborative process provides global recognition for the emerging brands while also creating a revenue stream to fund their main collections. The collections are then promoted through influencer and celebrity partnerships. The company profited over $100 million of business through sales directed from these partnerships within the first two years of business.
ICY Founder YingYing Gu is looking forward to the return to New York. “I find that New York Fashion Week is wonderfully diverse and welcoming towards emerging designers. We’re looking forward to presenting our collections and showcasing Chinese culture on an international platform! We’re hoping to attract new designers through the showcase to partner with our platform as well.”
