Two Designers from Qatar Reminded Everyone that the Middle East is a Fashion Force with Deep Talent on Day 6 of NYFW

A best-friend duo of Qatari designers came together to present a new take on modest, traditional fashion from the Middle East at Pier 59 with their fashion and jewelry collections. The garments and accessories floated down the runway reminding guests that modest fashion and jewelry are a tour de force in the modern fashion landscape.

The collections epitomized Middle Eastern chic with soft desert toned silks adorning the runway with effortless style; gold and diamond jewelry pieces complementing the looks with a sophisticated global appeal that felt ethereal and wearable at the same time. The show was centered around the theme of Arabian raw fashion touches with asymmetrical cuts draped in silks, organzas and linens along with the unconventional jewelry designs of Ghada Al Buainain Jewelry.

Demure sophisticated asymmetrical gowns made of fabrics including pure silks, organza, and linen, draped effortlessly, yet highlighted structural dimension in each look. Solid neutral tones and contrasting colors like deep purple, burgundy, and emerald – all served as a chic canvas, accentuating the accessories.

The show producers, Manjulakshmi Bharathan and Carrot GK, scoured the region of Qatar reviewing over 100 designers to showcase at NYFW, and stumbled upon two best friends with two dynamic brands. The ready to wear collection from Harlienz and jewelry from Ghada Al Buainain juxtaposed soft silhouettes of silk layers with structural gold jewelry inspired by hardware, and encrusted with diamonds – both brands are designed and made in Qatar.

Both designers sought deep into their relationship to come together for this collection. Ghada established herself in Qatar focused in gold jewelry, with details inspired by unconventional techniques, chicken wire, and common hardware store goods. Accessories included bracelets, rings, and necklaces encrusted with diamonds and other gemstones.

The runway show was directed by Manjulakshmi Bharathan and Carrot GK. “We are very happy and proud to be representing Qatari young designers. The Middle East is full of creative talent and we are happy to be the first ones to open the door for more international collaboration in the fashion industry,” quipped Bharathan.

Despite the snow storm that mixed snow boots and stilettos, the show was filled with editors, influencers, buyers, and industry tastemakers.
