Edeline Lee Spring/Summer 2020

Edeline Lee Spring/Summer 2020

Represented by HPR Agency.

For Spring Summer 2020, EDELINE LEE continues to push the limits of the fashion stage in her search to demonstrate the brand’s vision of intelligent, modern femininity. The collection is presented as an immersive presentation, sitting somewhere on the boundary line between runway and theatre.

For the script, she has collaborated with the award-winning actor/writer/producer SHARON HORGAN. Edeline states: “There are so many parallels between the performance of life in the theatre and the everyday performance of feminine identity through clothing and dress. | am thrilled to work with Sharon on this project. Her take on the human condition, particularly the female condition, is so acerbic and honest. There’s a wonderful juxtaposition between the catwalk models performing the “real world” and the actors performing another version of the “real world” in this piece.”

Sharon says: “l am so pleased to collaborate with my friend Edeline, who designs beautifully for the particular needs of women in today’s world, and who has kindly dressed me at short notice on numerous occasions. This presentation will be such an interesting day of looking at collaborative performance and will be a real visual treat.”

The performance itself is fifteen minutes long, repeated on a loop over two hours with both models and actresses wearing the collection. Models endlessly stream down a 55 meter long catwalk-slash-sidewalk. Concurrently, the audience eavesdrops on domestic scenarios played between the actors in duologues, each exchange depicting a bitter-sweet human moment, a broken narrative, or an idiosyncrasy of modern life. Every once in awhile, the actors pause to watch the world go by. Sometimes they stop and join the bustling melée of the outside world.

This is a joyous collection filled with optimistic, confident colors and shapes, expanding on the playful, yet feminine and sophisticated vocabulary of EDELINE LEE’s oeuvre. The house’s signature Flou Bubble Jacquard features deceptively simple cuts that universally flatter the female form. A series of garments in the heavyweight Georgette Champion could equally be worn for professional life and leisure. Lightweight Georgette Crinkle pieces flow and give volume to the sharp cutwork. An elevated series of paneled, colorful Zebra Print and fine Rattia Floral Jacquard give texture to the collection. The color palette graduates between Navy, Laguna Blue, Mediterranean Blue, Lawn Green, Yellow, and Carmine Red. All Edeline Lee pieces are made by hand in England, of fabrics woven in Italy and France.
