Treating eyebrows as a minor detail is a big mistake. Eyebrows are the central element of the visual composition of the face.”
These words by international brow artistry expert Anastasiia Kucherenko perfectly reflect the changes currently taking place in the industry. Mechanical correction belongs to the past. It has been replaced by delicate, almost jewelry-like work with eyebrows, carried out simultaneously across several dimensions — design, architecture, aesthetics, and anatomy.
We decided to speak with Anastasiia specifically to explore these important innovations in detail and to find an answer to the question of what the phrase “perfect eyebrows” means today.
“I think you will agree with me when I say that in architecture, it is not only the exterior that matters, but also what is inside,” says the Ukrainian brow architecture specialist, who began her professional journey in 2018 as a makeup artist at the Babyphotostars production center and is now a recognized international expert in facial aesthetics.
“Structure is precisely what unites architecture as the science of designing buildings and architecture as the art of shaping eyebrows.”
Anastasiia emphasizes that eyebrows should organically continue the face. She says that if, as a result of the artist’s work, the opposite effect is achieved and the eyebrows look beautiful but seem detached from the face, then the work has been done completely incorrectly.
The Principle of Proportionality
Proportionality is the first thing that comes to mind when one begins to look for points of intersection between architecture and brow design. Anastasiia Kucherenko, who graduated from Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture with a degree in Architecture, relied on this principle long before it transformed into a certain industry standard.
“From 2019 to 2022, I worked in several premium-class salons in Kyiv, including Backstage and LAQUE, and it was there that I deepened my expertise in selecting solutions that, instead of looking artificial, organically emphasize a person’s natural features.”
Anastasiia compares this to choosing the wrong scale in the process of designing a building: “Incorrect scaling of a single detail risks ruining the entire space. The same applies to eyebrows: the brow line, much like an architectural axis, can either open up the gaze or soften it, making it calmer and more delicate.”
The Balance Between Naturalness and Expressiveness
According to Anastasiia Kucherenko, the main challenge for modern beauty professionals is finding the balance between naturalness and expressiveness: “I have repeatedly observed this search process at championships where I participated both as a contestant and as a jury member.”
“In 2022, I conducted an independent professional evaluation of competition works in the ‘Modeling and Correction of Eyebrows with Paint or Henna’ category at the World Beauty Championship, so as a judge, I can state this: good design never shouts about itself. It will not look like an imposed trend. Instead, it will look as though nothing has changed in the eyebrows — meaning it will appear as organic and natural as possible.”
Anastasiia did not mention her role as a judge at the international ELAN Professional Line / UBS Championship in 2023, although it was not necessary. It is clear that in her work as a jury member, she applied the same judging principles and standards embodied in one of her quotes: “Perfect eyebrows are those that produce a noticeable effect through an almost unnoticeable intervention.”
The Ukrainian artist has a number of awards she can be proud of. Among them are two first-place awards at the IBA Beauty Awards, as well as the title of Brow Artist of the Year, received at the same championship in 2024.
A New Luxury Called Personalization
“Today, the greatest value in the beauty industry is personalization. And the field of brow architecture is no exception,” says the expert, who completed YUMI Lashes certification in the United States in 2025.
Clients come to artists not simply for “beautiful eyebrows,” but for eyebrows that will suit their face and lifestyle. This ambitious goal forms the foundation of Anastasiia Kucherenko’s original methodology, The Eye Harmony Starter Method, which she developed in 2025 as a brow guide for industry professionals.
“Shape is only one of the elements that must be taken into account in the process of creating brow architecture,” the Ukrainian artist explains, describing the principle behind her methodology. “No less important are anatomical structure, natural asymmetry, proportions, facial expressions, and the overall aesthetics of the image.”
Interestingly, through Anastasiia Kucherenko’s perspective, eyebrows, which for a long time were treated as merely a standard beauty procedure, suddenly become a tool for delicate visual adjustment.
“In our work, symmetry for the sake of symmetry no longer exists,” says the expert with confidence. She recently published the article “Integration of Art, Psychology, and Pedagogy into Training Programs for Beauty Industry Professionals” as part of the conference “Modern Perspectives on Global Scientific Solutions” in Bergen.
And this means that the best result will never reveal the artist’s work. It will look as though it was created by nature itself.
