The soft sounds of a gong being struck reverberated through the small Soho public school gymnasium as the Collina Strada S/S19 show was being seated.
Designer Hillary Taymour continues to present conceptual collections that reflect the current political and social nature of our world, for S/S19 she specifies that she was “reflecting on the turmoil and heartbreak that continues to emerge in our country” and created a collection “centered around a movement towards collective inner peace.”

The relevance was clear given this seasons’ show is titled “Sound Bath.” Young children marched out at the start of the show taking their seats in a semi-circle of singing bowls in the middle of the presentation area.
As models walked out there was a clear message of spiritual journey, the kind taken on pilgrimage, with the silhouette of prayer beads painted on some model’s chests as if sunburnt in place intertwined with a color palette symbolized by all seven chakras. The first look rooted the collection with a white satin button down worn tied and falling back with a matching midi skirt.
Taymour’s use of organza continues from previous collections, here we see it in menswear button up shirts and flowy layering pieces. Tie dye bodysuits and dresses were paired with faux cow hide trenches and skirts giving off an aptly timed Burning Man festival-wear vibe. Elsewhere, biker shorts and hoodies pulled in the streetwear aesthetic that so proliferates the current influencer fashion obsession.
Conceptual fashion is sometimes hard to place in reality but Taymour’s take on visual messaging through fabric and color, combined with wearable pieces, provide believable wardrobe additions to her curated clientele.
