4 Ways to Treat Female Hair Loss

Hair loss can be a stressful issue to deal with. A study found that up to 50% of women can anticipate experiencing some hair loss level in their lifetime. Sudden, dramatic hair loss can be due to taking particular medications. The most common kind of hair loss in women is FPHL (female pattern hair loss) or androgenetic alopecia, an inherited condition.

FPHL usually becomes common after menopause, meaning the condition may also have a hormonal element. Hair loss may result in reduced confidence in women. Discussed below are four ways to treat female hair loss.

1. Minoxidil
Minoxidil is a drug that boosts the growth of new hair in specific types of hair loss, including hereditary. The medication helps stimulate hair growth. Minoxidil can be oral or topical. Oral minoxidil medications, like Minoxidil Oral Canada, impact blood vessels in the body, while topical ones affect blood vessels under the application area.

Quality minoxidil medications can thicken hair and minimize the appearance of broadening hair parting or patchiness. This medication comes with use instructions, so read them carefully to ensure proper use. Minoxidil is an effective hair loss solution that takes several months to show visible results, meaning the longer you use it, the better the outcome.

2. Hair transplant
Hair transplant is an effective hair loss treatment for women. It involves minor surgery that helps transplant hair from healthy parts of the head to those experiencing hair loss. Since causes of hair loss in women are often complex, extensive investigations before surgery are necessary. Female hair transplant eligibility depends on various factors, including:

  • Hair loss cause
  • How healthy the remaining hair is
  • The extent of the hair loss you’re experiencing plus what needs transplanting
  • There are two hair transplant options women can have, including:

  • Follicular unit transplantation (FUT): It involves a surgeon cutting a strip of skin from your head’s side or back, then extracting hair follicles and inserting them in the areas that have suffered hair loss
  • Follicular unit excision (FUE): It’s a kind of hair transplant by removing individual hair follicles from the skin and shifting them to parts experiencing hair loss or thinning

3. Laser therapy
Hair loss laser therapy or low-level light therapy is an effective solution that helps regrow hair follicles. This kind of therapy helps treat various types of hair loss, including:

  • Genetic hair loss
  • Receding hairline
  • General hair thinning
  • Androgenic alopecia

Low laser therapy releases energy and stimulates the procedure that promotes new hair follicle growth. Laser therapy can be used as a standalone hair loss solution or be paired with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments for a more effective outcome. PRP utilizes your blood’s healing power in concentrated form to ensure high-growth elements are delivered to the scalp.

4. Microneedling
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment that involves the outermost skin layer being punctured with many sterilized small needles attached to a derma pen, dermastamp, or derma roller. Hair loss scalp microneedling functions by triggering special hair follicle cells that can stimulate improved hair growth.

While microneedling can work as a standalone treatment, it produces better results when used with other hair loss solutions. It also comes in handy for those experiencing hair loss that isn’t responding to conventional therapy.

While hair loss can rob women of their self-esteem and confidence, it’s a treatable condition. Consider implementing these treatments to treat female hair loss.
