The Supermodel Project Helped to Raise $5000 for Suicide Prevention Awareness
Fashion and philanthropy collided on Saturday night at Supermodels Unlimited Magazine’s Fashion Week Show at HK Hall. The event was hosted by Jordan Kimball from Bachelor Nation and Lisa Opie, social media influencer and founder of LadyCode Cosmetics.
The sold out benefit brought models from across the globe to walk for suicide prevention awareness. “New York Fashion Week garners the attention of millions, so what better time than Suicide Awareness Prevention Month to utilize fashion and shine a light on such a prevalent issue that touches so many,” said Jordan Kimball.
The evening kicked off with a surprise performance by JaRule while models walked in custom designs by Se7entees. JaRule sang eight of his biggest hits including “Put it On Me” and “Always on Time”. The audience went wild with excitement when JaRule jumped off the stage and brought his performance into the crowd, high fiving guests, dancing and sharing his microphone along the way. In an intimate moment, Ja passionately spoke to the crowd about the importance of coming together with love, solidarity and positivity, especially on the eve of 9/11. You could literally feel the good vibes throughout the venue.
Supermodels Unlimited Magazine’s NYFW Show
On the catwalk we saw models including: Kasey Cohen from Bravo’s Below Deck, Nick Spetsas of Bachelor Nation and TikTok star Danielle Cohn, among others. The runway featured beautiful designs from Pinkapple Dresses, The Couture Room and more. Kevin Aviance (who is sampled on Beyonce’s newest album) said, “The models were fabulous and the confidence level was on high!”
Emblem3 from Fox’s The X-Factor also hit the stage for a full set, including a surprise performance of their new song, “Supermodel Mode” that was inspired by and written for SU Magazine. “They set the stage on fire! I loved ‘Supermodel Mode’ Definitely my new go-to hype song,” Lisa Opie said of Emblem3’s unexpected song drop. Wesley Stromberg, lead singer of Emblem3 said, “We had a great time! Fans said it was one of their favorite performances they’ve ever seen!”
Concluding the show, models walked with handwritten messages of support for those struggling with mental health including signs that read: ‘988’, ‘You make me a better person’, ‘#STOPSUICIDE’ and ‘We are here for you’. Mary Baldwin, SU’s Director of Beauty said, “At the end of the day, all we really have is each other and we want everyone to know that there are resources for them and they are not alone. Often people don’t realize the positive effect they have on others. We encourage you to take a minute today and remind someone you love how important they are to you.”
SU was honored to donate $5,000 to The 988 Lifeline. Supermodels Unlimited Magazine wants every individual who may need support to know that help is always available; 988 is now active across the United States.
