Mariko Ichikawa Presentation
Sep 11 @ 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Mariko Ichikawa Presentation
Open-to-the-Public / Salon Presentation

205 Hudson St.
New York, NY, 10013

Mariko Ichikawa creates luxurious, one-of-a-kind coats and robes from up-cycled traditional Japanese Kimonos. Born of mixed heritage (her father is Japanese and her mother is Italian- American), the New York City-native, and former Dubai resident, amassed an impressive resume of fashion industry experience prior to starting her brand. With previous roles in buying and merchandising for major department stores in the US and abroad, Mariko’s years of experience have resulted in a deep knowledge of the fashion industry from the inside.

Mariko Ichikawa founded her namesake line with the goal of re-purposing traditional Japanese kimonos for modern day wear. Once a kimono has been re-designed into a modern silhouette, she works with artisans in India to compliment the individual fabric of each kimono with couture embroidery techniques. By doing so, a stain or hole in the fabric is not viewed as a flaw, but as an opportunity to honor the tradition of embroidery. In the end, a kimono from Mariko Ichikawa is a one-of-a-kind object, steeped in heritage and evolved from tradition, yet made for today.

JESSICA CHANG STUDIO

Jessica is a Taiwanese, comfort-conscious couture womenswear designer who never fails in being genuine and authentic with everything she generates. Jessica Chang Studio aims to absorb all that is inspiring and beautiful from nature and inject them into the tangible, wearable garments so that we can all experience and be a part of nature’s majesty. The collection showcases a mix of bold and mystifying colors, forms, and curves — silhouettes, familiar to the subconscious yet exciting to the visuals — textures are alive and full of movement. This homage to nature combined with Jessica’s innate design aesthetic takes a runway show to church, the elegance, the opulence, and the reverence.

ANYA HABER

Anya Haber is a multi-disciplinary designer whose aesthetic focuses on the intersection of art and science particularly when it comes to the use of unusual materials. Many of her textiles are handmade, whether it’s weaving with non-traditional textiles to create volume or molded silicone and liquid rubbers. Her collections are expressive and many of her designs are one-of-a-kind showpieces.

Meanwhile, with the desire to understand the full picture of the business, Chen studied for an MBA in International Luxury Brand Management at ESSEC Business School in France. Lawrence is a craftsman who focuses on creating artistic, provoking, yet elegant silhouettes for the heroine-to-be woman. He often combines traditional garment-making techniques with modern technology and materials; believing that innovative design is the key to preserving the past, and forging the future. Lawrence’s work has been featured in many magazines including British Vogue; and has been featured at top showrooms in London.
