CAAFD (the Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers) is a non-profit organization founded through a collaborative effort by a few key pioneers in the fashion industry who came together to back designers who aspire to do business in the United States. CAAFD educates, promotes and empowers aspiring designers and fashion professionals in gaining a foothold in the fashion business that leads them to becoming the renowned designer they yearn to be. Each and every New York Fashion Week, CAAFD sponsors several designers, both international and domestic, and gives them a platform in the greatest city in the world, New York City. This season, one of CAAFD’s series of shows include a collective showcase on February 10th with a designer lineup featuring Port Zienna, Mouton Blanc and Zabetta Couture.

Port Zienna, and it’s founder, Francesca Canepa, hail from Lima, Peru. Port Zienna has inspirations from haute couture, and incorporates various elements from cultures Francesca Canepa has come across during her world travels.

Mouton Blanc’s fiery young designer, Hakuyo Miya, is also very world traveled. His heritage lies in his Japanese roots, and he has studied in Paris at the Atelier Chardon Savard, conglomerating both cultures influences into his designs. Mouton Blanc’s pieces are known for their striking fantasy elements.
Zabetta Couture’s designer, Ruth Zabetta, was born in New York City but raised in both Spain and the Dominican Republic, imparting a very unique set of inspirations for this couture line. Zabetta Couture’s pieces exhibit femininity through asymmetrical cuts, which enhance and bring attention to the natural beauty found in the silhouette of women.
